Thread: WTA - general thread

    Re: WTA - general thread

Thought Halep would win (particularly after Sharapova's lengthy quarter over Ostapenko) but had to come from behind to win 6-4 in 3rd. Only seen some of it but know there were quite a few breaks! Think Sharapova now guaranteed French Open seeding though.

Late correction but it's Harriet Dart. So many Katie/Katys it's easy to confuse - Katie Boulter, Katie Swan, Katy Dunne

Make of this what you will....!! I know what I think!!

The Guardian: Maria Sharapova’s exclusive defeat leaves bitter taste for LTA and fans. https://www.theguardian.com/sport/20...-up-hurlingham

Article starts: "Maria Sharapova decided not to play in Birmingham this year, even though she signed a two-year deal to appear when the LTA gave her a wildcard for last year's tournament. She needed the practice back then, when she was just making her comeback...."

Yes, well done Katie. She has now moved up to 130 in the live rankings, having overtaken Naomi as GB no3 and, with Heather dropping frighteningly down the rankings and with a lot of points to defend at Wimbie, exciting times for Katie B.
