Of course a great pity, however it may well be for the best in the long term. Whilst Croatia may not have been the major factor just wonder if it was wise to play the 3 matches In Umag.

    Gosh - shocking news!

Hope this goes well - always a certain amount of risk with any surgery - especially backs.

Hope it goes well Andy - looking forward to you being an indomitable force next year!

Wishing Andy well and a speedy recovery. I'm sure the consultation and advice has been at the highest level and this is the best time to sort out health problems. I wonder what sort of surgery it will be.
Looking forward to seeing him on Mock The Week tonight though!

well hooray! really pleased to hear that andy is doing something now to sort out his back. I thought he played really well on the clay - wonder if he was feeling 'demob happy', knowing that next week he would be off the tennis treadmill, and coming back stronger for the Oz slam.

Well, sorry to hear this but think it's the right thing to do and the timing is as good as it can be. Will miss watching him but wish him all the best for the coming weeks.

    Re: Andy's schedule 2013

Who does Sky Sports News have on to discuss Andy? Clueless Cowan! He suggested that his back problem flared up in the transition from hard to clay for the Davis Cup. There was no recognition that his injury may have affected his play in Canada and the US Open just that he didn't play particularly well and Wawrinka was red hot. His final comment was that "Andy's injury is no where as bad as Nadal's knee problem" and that this break will do him good mentally.

Part of me was shocked when I read this, but part of me was expecting it. I really hope they manage to sort it out for him and he comes back raring to go again. We'll miss watching him and riding the Murraycoaster.
    All the best Andy!
(And here's a thought - he could be in the UK to pick up the SPOTY trophy!!)
