Re: Ottawa 2017: Freezing Fun For Forumites (SuperGranBlog)

I have been a fan of Jamie's for a long time. I remember watching his triumph in the mixed doubles final at Wimbledon with so much pleasure and pride. I first spoke to him at Braehead many years ago. I had a photograph with him and when I put my arm around him was told by the young man taking the picture I would have to be careful as he was married now I laughed and so did he when I retorted that I was old enough to be his gran. I was so disappointed and sad when he was in Davis Cup wilderness for a while and struggling to form a solid partnership on the Tour but I always supported him. Judy once said both Andy and Jamie aware that I was probably their No. 1 fan.:boogie :Over the last few years we have developed a warm friendship and keep in touch often. I have been invited for tea but couldn't make it........................ OK, the last two sentences are fiction But he does recognise me and when he came out of the changing rooms looking fresh and tall with a white towel around his neck he was wearing a huge grin. Hello Maureen he said and I grabbed his hand and gave him a big hug. He then turned to the bloke who had come back out with him and said "This is supergran".

Supergran was beaming when she told us about seeing Jamie after joining us in local bar with Hawkeye a little later! Jamie of course won Wimbledon with Jelena a good few years before Andy won a slam

Yes, me too. I am longing to hear about the bloke in the bar who appearing boring but, tantalisingly, we were told a few days ago that this would turn out not to be the case. Echos of the film Lost in Translation - that is how I visualise this bar!

Re: Ottawa 2017: Freezing Fun For Forumites (SuperGranBlog)

We chatted and the first thing he said was that he was pleased I had travelled to Canada and thanked me. I told him there were quite a number of us and we would be making a noise. I congratulated him on his slam success last year and he agreed it had been a pretty good season for Bruno and him. I then said I was looking forward to the doubles, confident that GB would win, and said goodbye. He walked out with me and then I asked him if he had time to say hello to a Scottish fan who was outside. He said sure so I went outside the area and called to Hawkeye. He came in and they chatted for a a short time. We then left Jamie and walked back into the long corridor. Still nobody spoke to us although Hawkeye informed me that security had been on two-way radios discussing me! Words like "Old lady, in a hooded coat just walking around!" Cheek! Old lady indeed.......I'm in my prime! Once outside we discussed the security and agreed it wasn't very efficient. I could have been anyone, someone intent on nobbling the team. We did laugh though about how fairly easy it was to get in if you can act as if you have a right to be there

Hawkeye then suggested a walk to the frozen canal which was quite near. It was a lovely day, blue sky and sunshine when we got the canal where we saw lots of people skating going about their business or simply enjoying themselves. We even saw young mothers on skates pushing their little ones in buggies. It is obviously used like a road and probably faster than being in traffic on actual roads. We walked along, I was hanging on to Ronnie and we had a couple of precarious moments but managed. I really enjoyed the experience and the conversation. A very nice time spent with one of my favourite Scottish gentlemen. We walked back to TD Place and decided it was time for some liquid refreshment, another interest Hawkeye and I have in common.
