    Watched some of the golf last night. Thank you BBC! The greens at Quail Hollow are ridiculous! They make such a monkey out of some the players! Just don't see the point of that.

    I will try and see some of the PGA Championship tonight.

    My favoured pairings after the first round are

    McIlroy, Rahm and Fowler

    Watson, Schwartzel [hope he will be inspired by the performances of the South African athletes in London - 3rd in the medal table] and Kirk

    Day, Dustin Johnson and Stenson

    Golf disappointing as far as the Brits are concerned! Paul Casey, 7 shots adrift of the leader, is the closest. Really disappointed with Rahm and Rory. And poor old Jason Day really scuppered his chances with an 8 at the last hole yesterday. It's a bummer of a course.

    The golf is boiling up nicely now to an exciting climax. Very packed at the top. Keeping an eye on it as I watch Fed and Sascha.

    I didn't see any of this but congratulations to Justin Thomas on winning the USPGA Chamionship

    Well done to Oosthuizen, F Molinari, Rickie Fowler, Matt Kuchar and Jason Day all finishing in the top 10.

    Another disappointing major for Rory McIlroy. Perhaps the best thing he can do is to take the rest of the season off and sort his injuries and his game out.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/golf/40919670

    -8 Thomas
    -6 Louis Oosthuizen, Reed, F Molinari;

    -5 Fowler, Matsuyama
    -4 Kisner, DeLaet;
    -1 Smith, Day, Kuchar, Stroud

    Selected others:

    Level Stenson, Casey, D Johnson, Koepka;
    +1 McIlroy, Poulter;
    +2 Spieth;
    +3 Wood;
    +11 Westwood

    Re: Golf thread

    After a mundane and dull few days the golf did bubble up to an exciting finish. Any one of 10 or so players was in with a chance pretty much right to the end. Was able to give it my full attention after the tennis finished!

    Well said Jimmy. Seve was a great golfer with a charismatic personality. He was the golfer responsible for my becoming interested in golf. He will never be forgotten. Nor will the other great golfer, Jack Nicklaus, Jimmy mentions.
