    Re: Golf thread

Luke Donald has been named the European Tour Golfer of the Year to add to the PGA Tour Player of the Year award he won this week and the PGA Player of the Year award recently. He is the first Englishman to win either of the PGA awards.

    Congratulations to Luke.

Luke Donald paid a visit to PGA of America Headquarters in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., on Tuesday to accept the PGA Player of the Year Award and the Vardon Trophy.

Jack Nicklaus reckons that come the year 2022, China might have five of the world's top 10 golfers.

It is a staggering thought. At the moment there is not one in the top 250. Their number one Liang Wen-chong stands 252nd and their number two Zhang Xin-jun 622nd.

But Nicklaus believes that golf becoming an Olympic sport again in four years' time has the potential to change the sport dramatically and rapidly.

    match play is always fun.

anything can happen over 18 holes. luke going out today means westwood or mcilroy can go no.1 if they win the tourny.

i like the look of some of the youngsters like mannasero and ishikawa.

Well done Ernie but commiserations to Luke.

I've been following Manassero's progress with interest since he won the Silver Medal at the British Open in 2009. Think he is a potential star of the future.

He will be 19 in April but already has notched up some notable achievements.

I don't know much about Ishikawa except that he is predicted to be one of the stars of golf along with Rory and has had some success in Japan.
