They did, but so did everybody else - just you can't keep that up for 250km with 4 guys.
Sadly the other teams were happy to sit there and give up their chance at a medal as long as GB didn't win.
And for vino to win it...

Gutting that GB just didn't make an impact here after the expectations. Have to say that that the tactics were questionable. It just hasn't gone to plan thus far all round.

Really sorry the guys couldn't pull this off - it's a shame in a way that Cav was built up to be almost a shoe-in for gold - it almost makes this seem like a failure, but I don't think that would be a fair assessment.

I did really hope we would get our first today though

I watched the road race , and was disappointed too , the Canadian , Ryder Hesjedal ( who was pumped here to contend for a medal ) was way back :(

Pretty tough when you're basically racing against the peloton with 4 guys. (Well plus eisel)
Amazing effort from the guys, Brad could have jeopardised his own tt chances to try and pay cav back for Beijing. (although cancellara looks like he's done his collarbone)

And poor form by the French using the road race to shoehorn Bourgain into the keirin- smack in the face for the road and track teams

    Sunday 29th July

The Women's Road Race is due to start at 12:00 today, at The Mall in London. The route is roughly the same as that for the men, except they only have to go around Box Hill twice - lightweights Much of the route is available to watch the riders pass for free, although some areas are ticketed.

A detailed map of the route can be found on the London 2012 website for anyone who wants to go and find somewhere to watch!

Hoping Britain's Nicole Cooke can emulate her success in Beijing 2008, with the help of Emma Pooley, Lucy Martin & Lizzie Armitstead.

    Come on Lizzie

There is a breakaway group of 3 and only 12 km left to go and Lizzie Armitstead is one of the three.

Excellent news! The media keep going on about Nicole Cooke, but to be honest, Lizzie has a pretty darn good chance herself - it's not quite the same as the men's race, where we only really had one truly recognised sprinter in the group.

Wow, just switched over from the tennis to watch the end of this - I hadn't realised it was raining so hard!

Have you been watching this Cazza? Any idea where the rest of our girls are...?

Edit: looks like Emma Pooley just got a puncture, so that's one of ours out....
