Rome, Round 2: Andy v David Nalbandian
A storming start from Andy, with an easy hold in the first game and breaking Nalbandian in the 2nd to go 2'0. David challenged the Murray serve in game 3 and had 2 break points at *15-40 but Andy came back to hold and broke the Argentinian for a 2nd time for 4'0. There then followed an inexplicably poor game from Andy ensuring Nalby got on the board. Not to be outdone Andy broke back again after 9 deuces and a 6th game lasting 15minutes. An easy hold from Andy sealed the first set for him 6'1.
Nalbandian began serving in the 2nd set and crucially held his serve. However, he was very unhappy with the court conditions and spent time at a couple of changeovers moaning to the Umpire about the wind, the sun and shadows and seemed to want the match halted. MoLay was having none of it and clearly told Nalby that it was the same for everyone and there was nothing he could do about it - in other words "play on".
Play then went with serve but it was clear Nalby was finding his clay form and, erm, Andy was having a dip. Poor play in the 10th game from Muzzah on his serve - and a DF on set point - and Nalbandian levelled the match 1-6, 6'4.
The 3rd set was very close fought and produced some startling tennis from both men.
Nalbandian playing at a level we've not seen for a while whilst Andy was fighting his way back into the match.
The Argentinian appeared to have the upper hand after he broke Muzzah in the 4th game to go *3-1 but Andy broke straight back and it stayed on serve until the business end of the set.
Now it was Dave's turn to falter whilst Andy stayed steady (apart from a code violation for swearing*). The match turned in the 11th game when Andy went 40-0* and got the vital break with a lucky netcord.
The drama continued as Andy tried to serve out for the match and Dave went *15-40 up. Andy pegged it back to deuce and finally took the match after Dave dumped his last shot into the net.
GSM Andy Murray 6'1, 4'6, 7'5.

* Nalby did plenty of swearing in Spanish but didn't get a ticking off.
