View Full Version : Bubble Gap 2012 - French Open: Deadline Sun 27th May 10.00am UK time
It's been an interesting clay season to say the least, plenty of ups and downs. In some ways more downs but that's not going to stop us! It ends with the big one, here in (hopefully) sunny France. Let's finish things off with a bang with plenty of chaos!

Rules and leaderboard as always posted here (http://www.andymurrayfanforum.com/forums/showthread.php?538-Bubble-Gap-Championship-2012). The aim of this competition is to guess the bubble gap after the French Open. The current race rankings are as follows:
http://img513.imageshack.us/img513/4650/race26512.png
The current bubble gap is 740. That's Andy's score (2240) - Tipsarevic's score (1500) = 740.
The highest possible bubble gap is 2730. That's Andy winning the French Open (which would be amazing!) and Tipsy losing his 1st match with no-one overtaking him.
The smallest (mathematical) bubble gap is 20. This involves Andy losing his 1st match, Almagro winning the French, Tipsy the finalist and Del Potro going out in R2.
So in summary, your guess is between 20 and 2730. The better you think Andy will do the higher your guess.
Remember that you can't guess the same number as someone else and once you've posted your guess you can't change it.
Ranking points on offer for Roland Garros are:
R1: 10
R2: 45
R3: 90
R4: 180
QF: 360
SF: 720
F: 1200
W: 2000
Good luck to all who take part and may the best driver win! :trophy:
Deadline: Sunday 27th May, 10am UK time
Edit1: Updated chart with 24 May results, no change to BG.
Edit2: Updated chart and post with 25 May results. BG reduced by 60.
Edit3: Updated chart and post with final results. BG reduced by 35.

Hmm, think I will wait until the RG draw and a few more results from Nice before I calculate my entry!
Hmm, think I will wait until the RG draw and a few more results from Nice before I calculate my entry!
That's where I've been going wrong..........well as the word "calculate" makes me break out in a sweat I suppose I'll just have to keep guessing. Now.......think of a number......erm........ah..........ok........waiti ng for inspiration :)
Updated 1st post with today's results. Isner went out of Nice today, Almagro and Simon both won. Almagro doesn't gain any points as his lowest countable score is 90 and he's currently earned 90 in Nice. He'll gain 60 if he gets to the final (with the BG reduced by that amount).
In Dusseldorf the last of the round robin matches are being played today and tomorrow, with Berdych earning 35 points today. Tipsy and Kohly play tomorrow.
OK, the car's back on the road having missed the last couple of races, so I'll get my qualifying lap in early and go for 900.

950 please
Sorry for the late update. Almagro beat Simon so the BG is reduced by 60 to 775. The maximum possible BG is also reduced by 60 to 2765.
The BG can change in 2 ways depending on what happens in the final of Nice and Dusseldorf:
If Almagro wins Nice, he overtakes Tsonga and the BG is reduced by 10.
In Dusseldorf, it's Serbia vs Czech Republic. If Tipsy wins his match and Serbia win overall, Tipsy gets an additional 145 points, also enough to push Tsonga down to ninth and reduce the BG by 10. If Tipsy wins but Serbia loses, nothing happens to the BG.
If both of the above happen then the BG is reduced by 20.
Keep the entries coming in.

Looking forward to this race :D
I've updated the chart with the final results of Nice and Dusseldorf. Almagro and Tipsy won with Serbia winning Dusseldorf.
I have to apologize as my scenarios for what the BG would be if Tipsy won was off a bit (my own mistake combined with the confusing scoring system of Dusseldorf). Sorry about that. :shamed:
The BG has been reduced by 35 to 740 and will stay at that.

Waited in vain and missed the deadline :crying:
So here we are, final race on the good(?) old devil dirt. 20 drivers arrive to see the surface off for another year, with Drewziph popping in for the celebrations.
cazza99 continues her good form and easily takes pole position. She's joined by DaveArneRiise who rises(:getcoat:) to the occasion after his last few below par performances.
Current leader eblunt and VamosVixs are on the 2nd lane, both continuing their consistent form.
Rome winner JAMES4578 and Linda start on 5th and 6th.
Newcomer Drewziph manages to take 7th place with Ace! alongside him.
Oscar and Manaus round things off in the top 10.
A special mention also goes to our lone Golden Muppet as his fortunes don't appear to be getting much better after a little 'accident' involving some physical contact between him and another car...looks like we're down to 19 for this one...
Yup, we're still at the starting line folks.
A flash shower, complaints from a certain driver about not being able to participate in this race (yes, I know that crash during qualifying wasn't your fault...) and a small scare over someone's back contribute to the rather large delay.
Hopefully the damp track dries a bit so we can get this race started...
There's a small debate going on between the stewards. Half want the race to start whilst the other half think they should wait as more rain may be on the way.
The head steward gets fed up with all the waiting and sets the green lights on before any of the stewards can react and off the drivers go!
Hope those skies stay clear...

I've got some wet weather tyres lined up. Need to get some speed up on those tight corners.
:p
Was the head steward a bit hasty? Perhaps as within a few laps of the race some drops of water start falling and by the next lap it's starting to pour. http://www.forumopolis.com/images/smilies/rain.gif
Clearly the drivers have different opinions as to whether it would rain or not as we have the full range of tyre types on the track. eblunt, cazza99, DaveArneRiise and Oscar's decision to use hard tyres is not paying off as they slide around quite a bit, losing considerable pace.
Linda and JAMES4578 are making the best of the situation with their intermediates and it doesn't take them long before they push their way to the front of the pack.
If this rain continues the drivers at the back with their full wets may have the last laugh...

If Andy loses to Ferrer and Tsonga defeats Djokovic is it? Will the BG be reduced?
Andy and Tsonga will both lose. Sad from a personal point of view, but good for my bubble gap.

Linda's scenario is most likely but in yours yes Tsonga winning would reduce the BG but by how much depends on whether Almagro wins or loses.
Good job Linda! Your careful calculations are paying off!
Well, my 'careful calculations' were based on Almagro overtaking Tsonga, and Andy and Tsonga both going out in the same round - so it could still go wrong if Andy and Tsonga don't both go out in the same round.

And if that's the case, we'll all be too busy celebrating to care ;)

Obviously I'm now hoping that I won't win this.

Sickening that Tsonga couldn't pull off the win, then I'd be looking at top 3 probably. Fine line in this again, will do well to finnish top 10 now. Really hope Andy screws up my BG more by beating Ferrer tomorrow, would make my day!

Quite simply if Andy loses tomorrow you're guaranteed 7th place no matter what happens. If Andy wins then you're out of the top 10 but I wouldn't complain if that happened. :)

I know how you feel - I'm rapidly slipping off the board completely and it would also make my day if I disappeared completely!

Well, obviously you wouldn't have liked to won it this way Linda. Fact of the matter is though your calculations were spot on so Kudos to you. Congratulations.
Thanks Dave - though it was really easy to calculate this time. I expect loads of others with close guesses would have made the same guess if I hadn't got there first.
That rain is really putting a damper on things but it doesn't appear to be getting heavier. The rest of the race is a pretty quiet affair with Linda easily holding onto pole as she crosses the finish line well ahead of the others, followed by JAMES4578 and VamosVixs.

Congratulations to Linda, JAMES4578 and VamosVixs along with the other point scorers! :cheer: Well done to Linda for getting the exact bubble gap as well .
That's the 3rd BG in a row now where someone has got the exact bubble gap. How long will this streak continue?
We're leaving the red stuff now and moving onto the nice lush green. ;) See you there!
