Benny goes long with a BH! 7-6 FED. SP and Fed to serve!
I'm going to say, looks like Benneteau's chance has gone, in the hope that he proves me wrong...

Onto the 5th it is. How much energy does Benny have left though?

Hats off to Benny for making this the match at is. Great effort from him regardless of the outcome of this 5th set. He could still win this you know
Yes, it's a much better match to watch than last night's.Although you do have a point - they are quite annoying

Benny close but couldn't pull the final trigger, what a dramatic breaker! Looks like we won't see a huge upset 2 nights in a row though!
Aaaargh a Fed shirt change is not something I wanted to see *shudder*
Allez Benny! :swingin:

At 2009 paris masters Benny beat Fed 3-6, 7-6(4), 6-4. He's done it before.
BTW has Fed ever come back from 2 sets down to win?

Yes, I think Potty was 2 sets up in RG 2009. Or was it Haas? One of 'em.
One tweeter said that the day after Rafa lost RG in '09 Fed was two sets down, and not only did he come back to win that match he won the whole tournie.

He's not pushing up on his serve so yes could well be cramp. Cramp does pass though.

Benny will go for a lot more now though, try to shorten the points so could be dangerous to Fed.

Hats off to Benny for the monstrous effort and making it such a spectacle.
Well done Federer for turning this around. Stunning effort, and shows again why he is such a phenomenal athlete.
Good attempt by Benneteau though, hats off to him.
Well, what is obvious is that Fed is way below the level of Djoko.

Not sure about that. Nole dropped a set to Steppy and was pushed by Harrison previously. I'd say they are on the same level at the moment.

What a pity Benny couldn't pull it off - major upsets two nights running would have been amazing. It really annoys me how biased some of the commentators are - Becker in particular.

I don't want him to take something out of Nole. I kinda want Djoko to beat him in the semi. I think Andy has a better chance against Djoko than Fed in a final. I mean in a perfect world I'd like both of them out before the final but that won't happen.
DaveArneRiise
29-06-2012, 20:26
Maliise is capable of pushing Federer. Youzhny too, Gasquet is he plays his best could really cause Nole problems. They both should reach the semis but you never know.

Fed has got a good backhand. I can't see Andy beating Fed in a GS final. If Fed gets there he will win.
Rubbish. I can see Andy beating him, if they both get that far. Andy already has a positive H2H against Fed. Fed's backhand is really weak, that is why Rafa has always been able to beat him.

Well really expected Kohli to beat him, but maybe not so comfortably. Mind you it's a breaker in the 3rd but Rosol goes down 8-6. Serena lost the first to Zheng on the breaker but has taken 2nd 6-2. Will be a wee before Andy M, of course Ferrer and Andy R to follow.

Bit harsh from you, Linda! Andy has lost against Fed in both finals they were in. I think Fed being a 6-time champ has a distinct advantage over him in that scenario. And his backhand is not weak. Maybe not the best of the top men's but not really weak. Of course, having said all of that there's nothing I'd like to see more than Andy beat Fed in the Wimbly final.

Just picked up from the Wimbledon site that if Roddick beats Ferrer today in the third round,....
there will be NO Spanish players in the last 16 !!!!
I think an Andy/Fed final wouldl be competely different to the previous two. Andy is two years older and so is Fed. Andy has improved both his serve and his backhand, he has Lendl in his corner and it would be on home turf. All these things would definitely work in Andy's favour. There is nothing I would like better than to see Andy beat Fed at Wimbledon but I don't see Fed getting past Djoko.

I'm not sure - Roddick's found some form of late and grass is his favourite surface and Ferru's least.
Of course, having said all of that there's nothing I'd like to see more than Andy beat Fed in the Wimbly final.Thats why I want him to beat Nole. If Andy only wins one Slam then I hope he does it against Fed, so that the goat can't say Andy never beat him in a slam final.
Djoko would never be so "humble"!
(And after winning I hope Andy climbs up to his box and proposes to Kim -try topping that, Fed!)

I have to go out in less than three hours so if it is a five-setter then Andy's match will probably end late with the roof closed so ESPN will only cover that match which means I can tape it and watch when I get back. I havent looked through these posts so sorry if I am repeating what anyone else has said.
I watched the Nadal match and was shocked as most people were to see him get knocked out, though I feel his shots werent quite as on it as usual.
The only thing that annoyed me was his lack of sportsmanship towards Rosol. He complained about Rosol bouncing about when he was serving which isnt illegal and not as annoying as his butt plucking, nose plucking habit he has which incidently has got worse cos he does it now when he is waiting for a serve AND at change of ends when he is sitting down. Has noone told him it looks disgusting?! He also takes on average 26seconds to serve when the limit is 20 seconds, why is he not fined for this wasting time. He is wasting on average half a minute per game which soon adds up.
But the thing that annoyed me the most was when he nudged Rosol at changing of ends. Rosol had waited for him to go past to his seat and nadal purposely nudged past by him. They replayed it on BBC and its obvious not something I have ever seen from Nadal before, I am sure he was peeved he was losing but there is no need for that.
Anyway rant over. It was a good match, shame Rosol is now out but what a win for him.

New one on me, can you give me a link to your source.
Tsonga has beaten Lacko in straight sets. Him and Del Potro are looking excellent, Pity they are both on Andy's side of the draw.
Hopefully that'll be a long match and they will still be suffering and Andy will beat a tired out Cilic easily.
well done to Laura and Dom - great win for them!

Who's this Bradnam bloke, I saw his name alongside Mac and Tim's today, and just went 'who's he?'He's the sneering poisonous witch who takes every opportunity to have a go at "Eeeeeeendy", and can rarely commentate on a match without mentioning "grumpy teenager" or Harry Enfield or bringing up various "incidents" from 6 or more years ago.
Bradnam is an absolute idiot - is knowledgeable about nothing and has an opinion about everything. After the French Open last year he was voted the most unpopular commie by the public and I don't think he was asked back this year - I certainly didn't hear him thank goodness. I can't believe the Beeb gave him the Murray match.

It's bad news that Andy's 1/4 have gone to seed ..... he's still got the hardest task of the top 4 ahead of him. The other quarters include a smattering of much lower ranked players as a result (i.e. they're easier!).

I can't believe the Beeb gave him the Murray match. Cannot stand the man. The commies may be discussing anything and he tries to bring chat back to a) Andy's injuries or b) Andy's "on-court behaviour" Said to supergramps who is one of the most objective and calm sports watchers I know.."Just listen out..." He said to me later (as we were in separate rooms) "You're right, he doesn't miss an opportunity to bring the subject round to Andy's detriment...he seems to want to criticise him all the time" Now, if SG has noticed, even though I told him to listen, it is obvious that it is not just we avid Andy supporters who recognise his malice.
And Andy has the hardest quarter and Federer the easiest.
That's going by rankings, not by form though.
JMDP, Ferru, Cilic have all struggled as soon as they played anyone half-decent - Robin Haase, A-Rod, and Querry. none of them have ever beaten a top 10 player at SW19 - and none of them have ever gone beyond round 4 before.
Grass is Ferru and JMDP's worst surface - and Cilic was losing to Nalbandian at Queen's before Nalby got himself disqualified.
But if - even after the Rosol and Benneteau matches - everyone still insists on looking at rankings alone, then fair enough.

Erm - didn't A-Rod beat a certain Andy Murray in the semis a few years back???? Or was Andy not top 10 then - I can't remember?
Erm - didn't A-Rod beat a certain Andy Murray in the semis a few years back???? Or was Andy not top 10 then - I can't remember?
It is Ferrer, JMDP and Cilic who have never done this.
ARod of course has!
The aspect of players who do well on grass and belying their ranking - and vice versa - is important.
I hadn't realised what a poor record Isner had on grass, for example. 4 appearances at SE19 - and he has 2 wins (both against Mahut!) and 4 losses.

just play the damn game! If the court doesn't need covering then get them out there, it's pathetic. I've slipped and taken plenty of tumbles on a tennis court in wet conditions, it's really not that dangerous. They stop play far too easily. If it's just in the air the grass isn't gonna change for a long time anyway so unless it's gonna rain for an hour or so it's barely gonna make any difference

They're back on centre now, Malisse will feel he missed a chance in that first set and he's now a break down in the 2nd. Apparently decision simply taken by the umpire on the outside courts, but on centre and 1 it's up to the referees. Sharapova a set down to Lisicki, would expect that to go to 3. Earlier serena got through 7-5 in the 3rd against Shevedova despite having a breadstick in the first. Kvitova certainly under pressure earlier but now running away with the 3rd at 5-1,Schiavone wasn't keen to play on earlier. Youzhny is up 2 sets to 1 on Istomin.

Surely, surely with the score in Andy's match as it is - if they have time left when Djoko finishes they'll put him on Centre to finish. They'd be mad not to.
Interesting to hear that the ATP offficial they interviewed on Sky this morning is going for an Andy/Djoko final - thinks that the difficult draw will actually work in his favour in the long run i.e. coming through all the difficult matches will give him extra confidence.

Didn't it happen at the USO when Andy beat Rafa?was it new york, you might be right just a distant memory of them moving mid match
Can't see the problem in moving it - it clearly says on the Wimbly info that I was reading in advance of going on Wed that the ticket entitles you to watch a match on a particular court but not a particular set of players - so tough luck if those on Court 1 miss out - they're not going to see it anyways. As for the players - if the match moves, it's the same for them both so wouldn't be unfair at all IMHO. So frustrated. Hissing down here as well - was supposed to be playing in a fun village 3 golf club tournie but not in this I'm not!
The Ladies 4th round is complete and their quarter-finals are scheduled for tomorrow when the weather forecast is also not good so surely priority should be given to the Men's singles on Centre Court. They could start early with 2 incomplete matches and then arrange the schedule as the day progresses. There's such a lack of common sense coupled with this ridiculous abidance to archaic traditions.

Federer and Nole are going to get an extra days rest. Murray is going to have to play consecutive days provided he reaches the latter part of the tournament. It's just sickening.
It's an absolute disgrace the way they've scheduled Andy's matches, our best player is being treated with contempt, the LTA knows well that rain is forcast until Thursday and they put Andy on court 1 today and he will have to carry on there. Ferrer and Del P will finish tomorrow, they are on Centre but not Tsonga, Gasquet or Andy. It's plain that they favour Federer and Novak because they don't think Andy can win, I pray he does and stick the fingers at them. Shameful, I quite agree with John McEnroe. Anyone agree with me ?

It's ridiculous putting ANY of the women's matches on centre tomorrow in the circumstances. If all the women played Monday - Wednesday - Thursday - Saturday it would make no difference from the scheduled Monday - Tuesday - Thursday - Saturday.
However with rain forecast all day tomorrow and very likely no play except on Centre, they're going to end up being unfair to both the women and the men. Some of the women's semi-finalists will have a day off before Thursday and some not; and of course some of the men (including Andy) will be expected to play Wednesday-Thursday-Friday-Sunday if they get that far, whilst those in the less competitive half of the draw get a day off between each match!:grrr::grrr::grrr:
