Me too. Ferru has an early break.

Alis

We really could do with Ferrer and Delpo slogging it out for five hours or more - I wonder if they'll oblige? Ferrer a break up at the moment.

Delpo looked like breaking first game but Ferrer held on and took advantage, a break up at 4-2. Think I'd also certainly prefer David on grass.

Ferrer just broken for 4-3 in the 3rd and holds for 5-3 so looks like he'll get through in straights. Looks like Ferrer playing very well but Andy would still be the favourite on grass.

Rather Ferrer to be honest, especially on grass. Del P is dangerous capable of blowing anyone off the court if he's on form. Andy has great chance against Ferrer on grass.

Ferrer in awesome form though. V tough match in my opinion.

DaveArneRiise
03-07-2012, 14:02
Murray's playing not to bad himself though ;)

Tsonga looks to have reeled in the Fish! He's had treatment on his back though midway through. Looks as if he's going to march into the quarters though.

Watching Live at Wimbledon and Andy just took part in their quiz. It's questions about their Wimbledon history and it certainly brought out Andy's competitiveness. He was also interrupted by Rafa (recorded last week) at one point. Andy got 8 points and is now top of the leader board. If anyone wants to watch it you can "rewind" the viewer back to about 3hrs 54mins. Very enjoyable only spoilt by Annabel Lecter's comments after when referring to one of Andy's answers about his junior days, she recalled him playing the French Open juniors and according to her his behaviour was terrible "and he's not much different to that child I saw in the juniors". :hmm

I have enjoyed playing and watching tennis for 60 years and don't pretend to understand the intracacies of the draws; can someone please explain to me how in the quarters, Djokovic (1) will play Mayer (31), Federer (3) will play Youzhny (26) - both having enjoyed easy routes - Tsonga (5) will play Kohischreiber (27) and Murray (4) will play Ferrer (7)? Am I missing something somewhere?

It's because the higher-ranked players that Djokovic, Federer and Tsonga were seeded to have met have been knocked out early. In the draw, the predicted QFs based on ranking were: Djokovic-Berdych, Federer-Tipsarevic, Nadal-Tsonga and Murray-Ferrer. Berdych lost in the first round, Nadal in the second and Tipsarevic in the third.

Am I missing something somewhere? Not really, just the luck of the draw.

The only thing that is fixed is the #1 & #2 seeds, everything else is drawn at random.
Assuming everything goes according to the seeding it will be 1 v 2 in the final.
Likewise in the semis it will be 1 & 2 playing the 3&4 seeds, but at random, ie 1 could play either 3 or 4.
And in the quarters it will be 1,2,3 & 4th seeds v the 5,6,7 & 8ths seeds.
So Andy could equally have drawn any of the seeds from 5-8 in this round.
Unfortunately it was only Ferrer & Tsonga from those 4 who managed to do the business (with kohlshreiber effectively taking Rafa's spot)

Azarenka through to the Semi's to face Serena Williams.

SHOCK NEWS!!!!!!!!

Wimbledon are moving the other match that was on Court 1 (suspended for rain) onto Centre.
9.25pm .....

It's Radwanska v Kirilenko and they're 4-4 in the Final Set.

So, that stuffs up all their excuses for not playing on last night when they had 3hrs to do so.

Sallydaisy

I imagine the players themselves had a fair bit to say to the Referees office last night/today as well.
It cost a bundle to put the thing on so they might as well use it and get their money's worth.
:p

I don't think they'll EVER do 'night' matches in the same way that the AO and USO do because of the local bye-laws and so on but at least this way they can ensure they right the schedule a bit. Apart from anything else there is awful weather forecast for the rest of the week ...

But they were saying Murray had a tough draw from day one ..........

He did - on paper he had a much tougher draw that any of the other three quarters. He just happened to draw all the giants of the men's tour - i.e. over 6'6" tall - who are also very big hitters. In addition to that he had Davydenko in the first round - a former world number 3 - and Rafa in the semis. As it happened a few of them went out early - including Rafa of course.

Here's what I don't get about the scheduling at this point in the tournament.

The weather forecast is still for showers/cloud for the rest of the week.
The doubles draws are all over the place .....

BUT

a) Wimbledon have scheduled Ladies Invitational events ahead of Mixed Doubles - see link (http://www.andymurrayfanforum.com/forums/showthread.php?1071-WIMBLEDON-2012-INFORMATION-THREAD-(locked)-Tournament-Schedule-Draws-OOP-s&p=78043&viewfull=1#post78043)
b) They have Junior events planned on most of the non-show courts all day.

If there are only small windows of dry weather why don't they put the main event doubles onto those outside courts when they can be played?

This is not to do down the Junior events - but the way things are going they will be hard pressed to complete the Mens and Ladies Doubles let alone the Mixed, Juniors and Wheelchair events.

The Invitationals are now just that so it seems crazy to include them at the moment.

I'm inclined to agree with you RL. The last time Andy beat Fed was Shanghai 2010 and he has lost twice to him since, although they didn't play each other at all in 2011. The head to head is 8-7 to Andy, which is by no means overwhelming but very close. I happen to think Andy has a better chance against Nole, especially since their Aus semi and because Nole does not look as incredible as he did this time last year.

Sorry to say I agree. Andy might as well go home today anyway, IMHO. Even if he beats Tsonga, Fed is the worst possible opponent for him in a final because:

a) he's in Andy's head as regards slams;
b) the crowd will be on Fed's side;
c) Andy hasn't tested himself against Fed in a while in any context.

That would explain a lot - I couldn't understand why Djoko just didn't seem to be trying.

Nice to see Aggie has picked up her game. Into a tb probably.

Well, this is more interesting now! Vamos Aggie!

Blimey! Don't need a tb, she won the set. I expect Serena to come roaring back, though. With a bagel.

Yay, Aggie breaks to take the second set - this has actually become a match :big grin:

I'm watching this instead. It's much more entertaining - and incredibly cute

That's brilliant Linda - I love it when you see footage that shows animals can genuinely have 'fun' - those pandas were loving it :big grin:

No bagel then. Perhaps a breadstick?

I'm not the least bit surprised. Fed will win this now. Neither Tsonga nor Andy stand a chance.

Sorry to say I agree. Andy might as well go home today anyway, IMHO....

I think saying Andy doesn't have a chance is going a bit too far! I'm not saying he'll definitely win, I'd say it's maybe 70-30 in Fed's favour, but Andy definitely has a chance, and if he can produce the tennis he did against Ferrer or in parts of the Tsonga match, then I would upgrade that to a good chance.

I don't think he fears Fed at all - ok in the H2H the Grand Slam record vs the record in other matches is a bit different, but if Andy can get his mental attitude right, I really believe he could win this!

Serena was cruising, Aga given some help but glad she got something going.

No breadstick either. Aggie holding her own. Keeping fingers crossed for her that Serena will implode.

Serena up a break and normal order restored, Aggie offering too many 2nd serves at crucial times tough.

Looks like 6-2 in the third. Boring again.

Really beginning to dislike Chris Evert as a commentator. Ever since she dissed Rafa at the very start of the tournament.

It's a shame, but at least it hasn't been a straight sets rout.

True but only coz Serena lost the plot a little in the second set. Hate to see Aggie cry. But Serena looks so happy.

Really pleased for Serena, after all she's been through this win must mean so much. :) Aga played very well today, she deserves a lot of credit for how she fought back into the match. So many Serena finals are one-sided but she helped to make it more interesting.

Happy for Serena, just wish that it had been against a better opponent. Says'a alot about women's tennis that Serena could still win a Wimbledon final fairly comfortably whilst still not playing at anywhere near her best :-( Hoping for a better game tomorrow.

Not serena's biggest fan but she has been through a lot and suppose she was quite gracious in the cermony. Agree it wasn't the form of quarters or semis and whilst Radwanska did show some of her touch pity she had a poor start, though she probably was still under the weather.

Shame that Aggy wasn't 100%, but Serena would probably still have won. I'm not a huge fan of hers, but I will say that it was a pleasure to have a shriek-free final!
