There was better news for fellow Briton Chris Eaton as he beat Australian Ben Mitchell 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 6-3.

World number 1,300 Kyle Edmund was the only other Briton through, beating Daniel Gimeno-Traver - seeded 12th for qualifying - 6-3 6-7 (7-4) 6-4.

Richard Bloomfield and David Rice were among those beaten at Roehampton.

Junior player takes 1st, experienced player nicks the 2nd to break their heart, quick break in the 3rd, must be all over? But this is Kyle!

That's gutting for Tara having served for the match. Unfortunately Sam Murray lots in the 3rd set. Terrible day for the British ladies in the qualies to be frank.

Jan
19-06-2012, 15:59
well yes and no - they were all playing against higher (often much higher) ranked opponents, so wins were never going to be easy. Most of them looked as though they made a match of it - and Lisa's win was great. I know it would have been good to get some more wins, but we do have to be realistic (sorry!)

DaveArneRiise
19-06-2012, 16:38
No need to apologize Jan you raise a good point, just disappointed Tara couldn't convert when serving for the match but she's still very young and did awfully well at Birmingham!

yes - and they must be disappointed too when it's so close and they have a real chance. And of course just sometimes there's a great win like Kyle produced yesterday.

DaveArneRiise
19-06-2012, 19:16
Unfortunately Edmund lost the a close 2nd set tie breaker before going down 6-2 in the 3rd. Still though a monumental couple of days for the young man!

What a shame Kyle couldn't quite get over the finish line. But a great win for him yesterday - hope he'll take a lot from the experience and push on from here.

Nice run for Kyle and sounds like he will learn a lot from it!

I was lucky enough to be at Wimbledon qualies today and was loads of fun! Think I may have been a bad luck charm for the Brits as all the matches involving brits that I lost ended up in British defeats :( The most gutting of which was Tara's. She really was playing well for 1.5 sets. Her forehand was good and she was mixing things up. Then I think she got tight and her opponent upped her game. Chance went abegging. A pity she didn't use her slice more as it was causing problems!

Chris didn't do too bad today but lost. Loads of fun watching Dustun Brown including his Pete Sampras style slam dunk smash! :)
