View Full Version : Bubble Gap 2012 - Wimbledon: Deadline Mon 25th June 11.30am UK time
http://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww173/prestonjjrtr/Smileys%20Summer/running.gif Oh sorry just having some fun on the grass (how I've missed you :)).
Anyway, back to business mowing the grass as I believe there's a rather big tournament about to start.

Rules and leaderboard (updated to post Rome) posted here (http://www.andymurrayfanforum.com/forums/showthread.php?538-Bubble-Gap-Championship-2012). The aim of this competition is to guess the bubble gap after Wimbledon. The current race rankings are as follows:
http://img189.imageshack.us/img189/488/raceprewimb.png
The current bubble gap is 745. That's Andy's score (2600) – Tsonga's score (1855) = 745.
The highest possible bubble gap is 2735. That's Andy winning Wimbledon, Tsonga going out in the 1st round and no-one overtaking him.
The smallest (mathematical) bubble gap is 20. That's Andy going out in the 1st round, Tipsy getting to the final, Almagro and Tsonga getting to semis and Del Potro going out in the 2nd round.
So in summary, your guess is between 20 and 2735. The better you think Andy will do the higher your guess.
Remember that you can't guess the same number as someone else and once you've posted your guess you can't change it.
Ranking points on offer for Wimbledon are:
R1: 10
R2: 45
R3: 90
R4: 180
QF: 360
SF: 720
F: 1200
W: 2000
Good luck to all who take part and may the best driver win! :trophy:

Elenive will be away until next week so he PMed his entry to me a few days ago:
Hi Manaus,
I'm going away a few days before the Wimbledon draw comes out and will not have internet access until the Tuesday (26th), so I was just wondering if it would be okay to send in my Bubble Gap prediction for Wimbledon now so I don't miss out the best race of the season?! :yahoo:
If it's okay then my prediction would be 1605 (I'm smelling a runner up position for Andy this year!)
According to ATP Andy is 5th. Why is Berdych 5th in your rankings?
According to ATP Andy is 5th. Why is Berdych 5th in your rankings?
I explain about this in detail in another post but in summary I calculate the rankings slightly differently from the ATP.
The ATP by default gives 4 0 pointers to commitment players which only drop off when a 500 event is played. So far Berdych has played 3 500 events so he's only allowed to count his best 5 'other' results.
I've just counted the best 6 'other' results for everybody and only check to see if a player has played 4 500 events when the last 500 event of the year is played, hence why Berdych is 5th here but 6th in the ATP's rankings.
Mind you now that I look at the ATP's race rankings (I generally don't look at them - I calculate my own) I'm not quite sure how they calculated that Berdych has a score of 2505. Also they gave Berdych 175 for DC and I'm sure he only has 170. Not quite sure what they've done.
Anyway, simple answer is that I do things a bit differently.
Edit: Just figured out the 175 for DC is because he played in a world group play off last year which gets him the 5 points so that solves one mystery.
Doing this in plenty of time as I got caught out for RG!
1760

Never mind, I see what they've done. They're still using the old system to calculate race rankings where commitment players have to play 4 500s and count them no matter how well they do in them. Case of ATP saying one thing and doing another.
I'll go all out and guess 2725....ever the optimist :)

1465 please, seeing as we are all being so polite before the race. :)
I'm wondering how long that will last after the race starts!
Also apologies as the original deadline of 12pm is incorrect. I've looked at the schedule for tomorrow and the first men's match starts at 11.30am so that's your deadline for entries. If a mod has time could you change the thread title thanks.
I will go for 1280.
Bit more than 12 hours to go. I won't be able to update the table until late afternoon but get your entry before the deadline and it will be counted. Thanks for all who entered so far (and thanks in advance for those who will enter :)).

855 for me.
Thanks for organising the Wimbledon Grand Prix - I'm out there on a track inspection tomorrow.
:shades:
Whoops, nearly missed it - again!
1100 please
May the best man win!
May the best man win!
Or woman. :)
Right, grass all cut neatly and the track looks good. Nice weather too although being the great British summer right now that may not last! With that said, we'd better get qualiying done as quickly as possible.
The 19 drivers zip through the lovely green track with rondun taking his first pole position of the year followed by Sallydaisy who starts in the first row for the first time this year.
Oscar finds some good form to start in 3rd followed by Linda who's hoping to keep her streak of 4 top 10 finishes going.
Podium finishers of Roland Garros JAMES4578 and VamosVixs fill out the 3rd row, Ace! and cazza99 in the 4th and the back of the top 10 contains Manaus and current overall leader eblunt.
The sun is out and the air is nice and fresh. Let's enjoy it while it lasts! We've got a bit of time so I'm off for some strawberries and a glass of Pimms...
2nd post now has race rankings after round 1.
Still at the starting line...isn't this weather wonderful? Not that anyone is complaining since there's plenty of :strawberry: and  to go round.
While there's not much going on, time to keep an eye on the TennisGolf...

Uh cleaners? Would you mind clearing away those banana skins on the track? No idea how they got there but we wouldn't want people to slip on them and cause some upsets would we?

Presumably Tsonga goes above Almagro now so the BG becomes Andy's score - Almagro's? So it must be above 745 by now no ?

I update the chart after each round. Only half of R3 matches have been played so far so I haven't added today's results. But yes for the next round you're right.
Tsonga hasn't played yet?

Tsonga hasn't played yet?
3rd match on Court 1 tomorrow.
So he's not ahead of Almagro yet?
So he's not ahead of Almagro yet?
Admittedly I was making the assumption (as was Dave) that Tsonga should make it through today. I admit I probably shouldn't make such assumptions though given what's happened so far in this touurnament!
TennisGolf update after R3...

Great effort from Brian Baker, and scary stuff from Tsonga - he's still hasn't missed a put!
"Shouldn't we just put a roof over the track? Then the race can start whenever we want." says one of the younger stewards.
"No!" says one of the older stewards. "We can't have an indoor race for Wimbledon! We must uphold tradition whenever we can, we will wait for the rain to clear!".
The young steward looks up to the sky and then at the weather forecast before saying "Fine, wake me up in a couple of days and I'll see if anything interesting has happened".
It looks like the skies are clear enough now - I think. Better go now before it changes it mind. Ready everyone? Go!
Everyone collectively thunders down the track and round the first couple of turns - pretty competitive this. Rondun looking pretty good out there as he makes the next turn...
...or not as he goes skidding off. What on earth is that banana skin doing there? I thought they were all cleared away. Looking around there's a group of hairy primates in the crowd cheering quite audibly for Sallydaisy that look rather suspicious.

Coincidentally, she makes the most of Rondun's slide and overtakes him for pole. :hmm:
Better be on the lookout for more bananas.
Banana skin, my Donkey!
The stewards have issued their decision... (http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c130/rondun/stewards.png)
On review of that last incident on video it would appear that Sallydaisy may have bumped into rondun's vehicle during that last turn, shoving him into that banana skin. Cheating? Conspiracy theory? Surely not! Word is that Sallydaisy can look forward to a call to the office after this race.
Mind you, if all this is really planned by Sallydaisy she may not have thought this through properly, that or there's some miscommunication between her and her furry friends as it doesn't take long before she slides on a skin herself and performs the largest drift seen yet this season before crunching into the barriers.
It's all getting rather hectic at the top half - Drivers skidding on skins all over the place and there's some light rain in the air too to make things even better.
Through all the chaos Manaus along with some others navigate through all the mess to lead the group, to the amusement of the aforementioned driver as he's still wondering how he got there.

Since I'm the leader of these "others", this is one competition where I do NOT want to finish on the podium!:sofa:

What will BG be if Andy beats Tsonga?
What will BG be if Andy beats Tsonga?
Getting to the final earns a player an additional 480 points (720 -> 1200) and all the remaining players are in the top 8 so the BG would become 1785.
It's complete bedlam - rain, banana skins, car debris, security frantically running around (trying to catch those damn monkeys in the crowd for questioning). Is this even a race anymore? More like last driver standing.
Amongst all this madness pabbers, Golden Lady, Elenive and hfwardhouse are the ones who somehow lead with a few laps to go. Considering that pabbers was just having a leisurely drive this whole time she nearly had a heart attack when she was told of this. I wish her good luck in navigating through this obstacle course. ;)
Actually, shouldn't the safety car come out? I'm surprised that it hasn't arrived yet. Maybe the stewards should send it out until things calm...
...Stewards? You there? Anyone? Where has everyone gone?

BG if Andy wins tomorrow?
BG if Andy wins tomorrow?
IF Andy wins tomorrow :cauldron: he'll get 800 more points making the BG 2585.
Turns out that the stewards were off having a party celebrating something. Well they were celebrating something but they now all look rather deflated. pabbers continues her lead by virtue of nearly everyone else not daring to drive through the mine field of the Wimbledon track to take her first pole finish of the year.

Congratulations to pabbers, Golden Lady, Elenive and all the other point scorers! Bit of a sad end to things but I'm sure things will be much better next time.
There's now a short break to take in everything that's happened before we start the American hard court stretch in August. Hope to see you all there. :)
Wow.......... :thanks:
Erm.........I hardly dare say this. But I think some of you know I'm not a numbers person and I actually selected my guess on the basis that Andy would go out in the first round...........:shamed: Think I may have got me high and low numbers a bit mixed up
