As with the Australian Open we'll post here summaries of the matches and press transcripts so that those unable to watch on the day can find brief notes about how Andy played without trawling through the match thread.

We suggest that comments go into the main match thread as normal. Please advise if you think the report has any glaring errors or misrepresents how the match went. Also, if anyone wants a bash at writing up reports, adding stats info, please say - all help greatly appreciated!!!

ROUND 1: Andy Murray d Nikolay Davydenko 6'1, 6'1, 6'4

Much was written about Andy's form going into Wimbledon and alarm bells were being rung by many after the early exit at Queens and subsequent losses at Boodles in exhibition matches. Were we in for a similar scenario at Wimbledon???

Well, for those of you who missed it, we needn't have worried.

Andy came out of the blocks with intent and didn't let up the entire match.
He completely dominated Davydenko with almost flawless tennis of the sort we love to watch.

The Russian managed to hold serve in the first game of the match but that was all he got as Andy took control with some clinical tennis and won the next 6 games.
6'1 before you could pour your pint of Pimms!!!
http://www.andymurrayfanforum.com/images/smileys/seasonal/baguette.gif

Andy held to open the 2nd set, ticking along nicely at 77% with his first serve, and then broke to go ahead 2'0 and 3'0 after another easy hold. Davydenko finally got on the board in game 4 at which point he'd won only 19 out of the 62 points of the match so far. As with the first set that was all he got; Murray totally in command took the next 3 games and posted another 6'1 score.
http://www.andymurrayfanforum.com/images/smileys/seasonal/baguette.gif

Time for a Murray dip? Not any time soon. He broke Davydenko in the opening game of the first set and then held for 2-0. The Russian finally won a game and was on the board at 1-2 but if he was hoping to make inroads into the Murray game he was out of luck. The remaining games of the set went with serve and the best Davydenko could do was fend Murray off needing to save a matchpoint against his serve in game 9.

The end came swiftly, probably to the Russian's relief, when Andy served out to love for the match after 1hr 35mins. Not quite a triple breadstick but there was a sense it could have been.
Perhaps Andy was happy to play a few more games for match practice?
http://www.andymurrayfanforum.com/images/smileys/shades.gif

Here's what he had to say straight after the match ......

Andy Murray on BBC Two: "The first two sets were very good, I got off to a great start and then relaxed. It's been a long time waiting around since Queen's, I've been itching to get going.
"I was hitting the ball very clean and used my slice very well. Changing the pace of the ball was very important. I've potentially got Karlovic next, there will be very little rhythm in a match like that and I need to strike the ball well."

A. MURRAY/N. Davydenko
6‑1, 6‑1, 6‑4

Q. What is the gesture you did in celebration?
ANDY MURRAY: Well, it's something for me and the guys that I work with. I don't really want to go into too much detail because I'll end up getting asked about it every single day.

Q. Nothing to do with pointing to heaven and God, is it?
ANDY MURRAY: Whether it is or not, I'm not going to tell anyone.

Q. It was a helluva start, that quality of tennis.
ANDY MURRAY: Yeah, it was a good start, and I knew obviously when I drew him I was going to need to start the tournament well, playing good tennis.
Yeah, I mean, I struck the ball well. It's been a long couple of weeks since Queen's. Yeah, obviously with the rain and stuff today, there was a chance might have to play under the roof or there might be some stop/starting.
So once I got ahead, I really tried to keep it up; did a good job.

Q. A combination of the slice and then going to the forehand as well, is causing all kinds of problems, isn't it?
ANDY MURRAY: No, it worked well. He hasn't had his best results on this surface. Normally that can be down to things like the ball jumps off the surface differently from a slice so I used to that mix it up and flatten the ball out when I had a chance to take his time away.
Yeah, I did that well throughout. The slice worked well.

Q. Is it one of those days where since the moment you walked out on court, you looked like
you were comfortable in your own skin.
ANDY MURRAY: Yeah, well, like I say, it was a long couple of weeks with, you know, a lot of time on the practice court, a lot of talk about various things. I just wanted to go and play. I wanted to play tennis, that was it.
I played well. Like I say, once I got ahead of him, I wanted to make sure I didn't let him back in. You know, he's very, very dangerous. He's a very good returner as well. I needed to stay concentrated on my serve, and I did it well.

Q. Immediately after the match, there's been a lot of talk in the buildup to this tournament. Is there a part of you that likes proving something to people who maybe doubt you?
ANDY MURRAY: No. Well, yeah, I mean, if someone doesn't want to do well, then it's nice to play well. Yeah, of course.
I mean, every week going into Wimbledon, the week beforehand, there's talk about all sorts of things. It's not this one more than any other one.
It's just something where because I didn't do well at Queen's, it's been a lot longer to get through all the practice days and the preparation, yeah, and all the other stuff that goes on the week before Wimbledon.
Glad I played well.

Q. There was a sense of urgency brought on by the weather, trying to beat the rain or darkness.
ANDY MURRAY: Yeah, I was just saying because there was a chance it might rain, and obviously there were a couple of delays during the day, you know, ideally you don't want to be going from outdoors to indoors.
You know, once I had the momentum I didn't want it to stop because of the rain or having the roof on. I just wanted to try to get off the court, if I could, as quickly and efficiently as possible. I did it.

Q. Just wondered how much motivation you drew from the quite cutting and scathing comments by some former and current players over the weekend. Your response to being called a drama queen, for example.
ANDY MURRAY: Well, I mean, that happened a few weeks ago. I haven't heard anything that has been said the last few days.
I just wanted to go out there today, play well, keep my focus, and not worry about the other stuff that goes on off the court around this time of the year.
I think I did a good job of that. Time to let the tennis do the talking.

Q. Such a convincing victory was a good way of silencing your few doubters.
ANDY MURRAY: No, I don't think that today's win stops that. I mean, the way that you, I guess, stop getting asked questions or have people doubting you is by playing tennis and winning tennis matches. That's what I need to do the rest of the tournament.

Q. This summer would you rather win the Wimbledon or the Olympic medal?
ANDY MURRAY: I'd take either. Both are great for different reasons. Both tough to win. But I don't know. Either would be good.

Andy's press transcript - Part 2
:wimbly:

Q. Is it still special, Wimbledon?
ANDY MURRAY: Yeah, it's very special, a very special tournament, special court. So, yeah. I mean, I'm always motivated to play well here and do well. I always enjoy playing on the Centre Court.

Q. There's now five in the second round. How delighted are you for James and the three girls to be there?
ANDY MURRAY: Yeah, anytime the Brits do well in slams it's good for British tennis. Yeah, I saw a little bit of Jamie's match, as well. Looked like he was playing well, holding his own against Roddick. It's been a good tournament so far, and hopefully it continues.

Q. Comparing two and three years ago, do you think this time you're coming to Wimbledon with less pressure? If yes, does it help you?
ANDY MURRAY: No. I think pressure's always the same really for me, because I put the same pressure on myself each Grand Slam to play my best tennis. So it doesn't change.
I have more experience probably to deal with that pressure a bit better than I used to.

Q. What is your first conscious memory of the player Ivan Lendl when you were a kid?
ANDY MURRAY: I never saw him play when I was a kid. I've only seen him play since I got older. That's one of the good things about the Internet. I watched quite a lot of his matches on YouTube, clips of him playing.
Yeah, he was obviously a great player, very ruthless, one of the best players that ever played. I'm glad to have him working with me.

Q. The Olympic wildcards were announced. Do you have an opinion on who should carry the flag, and is it something you would be interested in doing?
ANDY MURRAY: Carry the flag?

Q. In the opening ceremony.
ANDY MURRAY: That's got nothing to do would the wildcards. I didn't see the wildcards, so I don't know. Yeah, I've not seen them.
In terms of who should carry the flag, there's many great Olympians. Yeah, I don't really have an opinion on it. That's for someone else to decide.

Q. What would be the difference for you playing Wimbledon and the Olympics on the same arena?
ANDY MURRAY: I can't say really until I play. I mean, the motivation will still be the same. I mean, I think the atmosphere maybe will be a bit different I would have thought.

Q. In what way?
ANDY MURRAY: I mean, I just always think it might be a different crowd. I don't know. I just think it might be a little bit different to when the tournament's getting played. I just have that feeling.

Q. Looks like it's going to be Ivo Karlovic next. A completely different match than today. Do you enjoy the challenge of facing someone like him on grass?
ANDY MURRAY: Yeah, it's a tough match. It's very hard to get into a rhythm against someone like that. I mean, he's made it very difficult for a lot of players over the last five, six years because he serves so well, makes you feel pretty uncomfortable on the court.
So there's going to be games where you might not even touch the ball where he's serving, so you need to try and stay in the zone and not kind of lose focus on your service games. I'll need to serve well against him.

Q. One of your great strengths is your returning. Do you look at the Karlovic match and think, Let's see how the returns are at the moment?
ANDY MURRAY: It's a bit different than, say if you're playing someone six foot that serves well, that's when you would normally see how well you're returning.
A lot kind of depends on the day when you're playing a guy that's 6'10" because a lot of it's just reaction. Sometimes you'll see it; sometimes you'll might pick a couple serves in a row; sometimes you won't.
I wouldn't say it's the best way to say whether somebody returns well or not, but certainly very challenging.

Q. For the sheer joy of going back and playing with some legend from past times, who would you choose to have an imaginary match against?
ANDY MURRAY: I mean, pretty hard to pick one. I would have liked to have played against Sampras, Agassi. For me, I saw them playing when I was growing up. I know their game a little bit and have seen them play.
I practiced with Agassi a few times and learnt a lot from that. Obviously watched Sampras play many times. For me, that would be a fun match. Like we were just saying with the return, that would be a guy you would see how well you actually return against because he had such a great serve.

Q. What did you learn from Andre?
ANDY MURRAY: Just from practicing with him, he's incredibly intense. From what I saw, he didn't spend loads of hours on the practice court. He spent slightly less amount of time on the practice court, but the time he did spend was incredibly intense.
He went on there focused, did his job, got off, and got out of there. He didn't spend too much time hanging around the courts, which is something I've learnt, because it can be quite tiring.

Q. How do you prepare for playing somebody as up in the air as Karlovic? If you're going to play a lefty, you sort out a lefty to practice with. Do you get Danny to stand on a box or something?
ANDY MURRAY: Even when I'm not playing someone like Karlovic, when I'm practicing, I always had Danny or any of my coaches really stand and serve just from behind the service line just for the reaction and getting used to the ball coming from that height.
Yeah, that's something that's really the only thing you can do. Then I would assume he'll come into net a lot, so hit a lot of passing shots in practice tomorrow.

ROUND 2 - Andy Murray v Ivo Karlovic

FIRST SET
Games 1/2 - Shaky start from Andy; he went 40-0 up and then inexplicably hit some errors whilst Ivo played some crafty tennis to break the Brit. But Muzzah returned the favour and broke straight back.
1-1 game on.

Game 3 - and a love hold from Andy to calm the nerves of watching fans .....
Game 4 - Ivo is serve-volleying to keep points short and he's charging into the net and drop-shotting.
2-2

Games 5/7 - rather a lot of bish-bash-bosh and the games are flying by but staying on serve.
Ivo the drop shot king today and it's Andy on the run after them. Very few break chances though.

Game 8 - and a foot fault is called for Karlovic, can he even see his feet from up there?
Game 9 - Some more delightful play at the net with Andy coming out on top with a cross court net dropper. Sealed with an Ace as he did in his last game.
Andy: 5-4

Game 10 - now we're talking. The bigman tried to play cutesy a few times to many but Andy is too good for him. Muzzah has 2 break points. One saved by a stinger of a serve; the 2nd difficult and which Andy hit into the net. More excellent serving and Karlovic is out of trouble and we're still on serve at 5-5.

Game 11 - Andy is serving well but has dropped the serve speed a tad
Hold to 15 for Andy and it's 6-5. Tie-break anyone?

Game 12 - 15-0 but then a DF for 15-15. Some first serve faults creeping in as Ivo goes for broke on the lines and it's 30-30. Chance on a 2nd serve taken by Andy with a stunning BHDTL.
This is a set point. Ivo sends down a 2nd serve bomb and it's called in.
Challenge from Andy - and it's OUT.

First set Andy Murray 7'5
A very entertaining set all in all, Ivo trying more variety than most expected and getting away with it to begin. Andy was patient and took his chance when it came - and despite the first game he didn't really give Ivo many chances for a break either.

SECOND SET
Andy serving first again; bit stuttery and it's 30-30 but Andy is holding firm and an Ace finishes the game to Andy's favour 1-0. Karlovic is still chuntering about the Hawkeye challenge which gave Andy the set but he holds for 1-1; another routine hold for Andy and he's 2-1.

Ivo is foot faulting again and doesn't look too happy about it; that a combinatin of errors sees him go *15-30. He's steadying the ship though and at 30-30 played a great point from the net for 40-30. Great return from Andy and deuce. Ivo gets Ad but then hits a ball out, challenge from Ivo which fails and it's back to deuce. Another charge to the next as the big man puts away an overhead safely for Ad - and repeats the process to hold.
2-2

Love that Andy is managing to lob Karlovic - even though he's losing the points 'cos the big man is getting to someof them. Ivo mounting a bit of a challenge here and it goes from 40-15 to deuce. Great play from Andy for AD but on the next point Ivo hits a good return forcing an error from Andy. Deuce and Andy's serve is under pressure a tad.
Muzzah plays a great point for Ad again and serves an Ace to hold.
Andy 3-2

Another foot fault called for Ive; he's none too happy. Stunning lob from Andy which Ivo didn't run to at all ... but the net is on the big guy's side and he holds. 3-3

Andy kicks off his service with 2 Aces ... Ivo hits long, then dumps a 2nd serve into the net and that's a quick love hold for Muzzah. 4-3 to Andy.

Love hold for Ivo too ... using his serve to avoid playing points.
http://www.andymurrayfanforum.com/images/smileys/tongue.gif

And another easy hold for Andy. He leads 5-4 and will be looking for chances on Ivo's serve.

DF from Karlo followed by a bomb, 15-15. And another 30-15. Andy just hit a great cross court return but Ivo was waiting at the net to punch it away, 40-15. Andy too quick on the next point, 40-30 but an Ace from Ivo and it's 5-5.

Serve down the T, Ivo returns to the net. Error from Ivo hitting long, 30-0. DF from Andy, crumbs! A RALLY!!!! Andy wins it 'cos Ivo doesn't really run does he? Errors again from Ivo and it's 6'5 to Andy.

Ivo not getting his first serves in and Andy has a couple of chances on the 2nd serves but just misses. 6-6 tiebreak.

A break either side early but it's very intense. Andy had more chances to break but couldn't come up with the shots to take them.
At the business end Ivo played a couple of good attacking points and broke to take the set.
The Croat takes the 2nd set 7-6(5).

Just a few points in this match so far ............

THIRD SET

Andy breaks in the first game of the 3rd set!!! A superb lob at *30-40 and the big man could only stand and watch as it dropped in. Great way to get over losing that 2nd set.

Hmm. Andy races to 40-15 but a couple of canny points from Ivo and it's deuce. This is a repeat of the very first game of the match. Great serve by way of response from Andy gives him AD; and another for the hold and 2-0.

Ivo holds courtesy some more of his serve and net play. Good hold from Muzz and again from Ivo. Andy still with the break serving at *3-2. Love hold - make that 4-2.

Now ....... a few errors from Andy, he's badgering Ivo, returning everything and he's rewarded with a break point.
Got 'im!!!!! Great hands from Andy Double break. Andy will serve for the 3rd set at *5-2.
Good hold from Andy and ivo looks very deflated as the British no 1 takes the 3rd set 6-2.

FOURTH SET
Hold from Ivo, love hold from Andy. 1-1 4th set.

Chances for Andy in the 3rd game created by some great returning and passing shots but Ivo saves himself with some good serving. Andy *1-2. Solid hold for 2all; Andy whipping topspins to the Karlovic backhand again, winning every point that goes that way. Not quite sure that Ivo has worked out a counter-strategy to that yet.

3-3 after a good hold again from Andy. The Croat's serve is keeping him out of trouble but he's not getting any mileage out of Andy's serve either.
4-4.

Ivo has refound his mojo and isn't giving Andy any chance to break at the mo.
Andy serving to stay in the 4th set at *4-5.
Love hold and it's 5-5 and another set of new balls!!!

6-5, Andy serving behind in this set so he must now hold to take it to a tie-break.
.
Nervous moments ... 0-15, 15-15, 15-30, 30-30, *40-30. Ace. 6-6. Tie-break
:sofa:

Ivo to serve first:-

*1-0 with a 2nd serve Ace
1-1*
1-2* Ace from Andy
*2-2 2nd serve Ace from Ivo
*2-3 2nd serve and ANDY HITS A STUNNING RETURN!!!
3-3* Ivo won that fair and square
3-4* Fantastic pickup from Andy
*4-4 Ivo excellent at the net ........
*4-5 DF from Ivo. 2 serves for Andy to take this ..........
4-6* Nearly there ......
4-7* YES!!!!!

GSM ANDY MURRAY

That was very tough and Andy did extremely well to win.

ROUND 3: Andy Murray def Marcos Baghdatis 7'5, 3'6, 7'5, 6'1

What a match!!!!!
It was a stunning performance from Andy in the end despite a rather stuttery start.

FIRST SET
It's 3all H2H between these 2. Both have good first serves and instinctive games that produce inspired shots. Marcos got into the groove a little sooner and produced more aggressive tennis, with a game plan using dropshots a fair bit - and to good effect. Andy seemed a little sluggish and in the first few games of 'cat-and-mouse' seemed content to play Jerry. Toward the end of the set Andy's serve picked up and so did his game. He broke Baggy in the 11th game and then served to win the first set.
7-5

SECOND SET
Despite getting an early break Andy couldn't hold on to it and he seemed tentative in both game plan and execution. He didn't manage to break Baggy's serve, even though he had several chances, and as the set wore on it was clear the Cypriot's confidence levels were rising. Marcos produced some heavy, accurate hitting for which Andy had no reply.

The situation wasn't helped by Andy falling twice; although unhurt it's probably jarred a few things and left him feeling disgruntled. It didn't help that tennis balls fell from Andy's pockets twice - he must have thought nothing was going to go right.

Baggy broke in the 6th game to go 4-2 up and held for 5-2.
Andy couldn't break back and the 2nd set went to Baghdatis.
6-3

THIRD SET
A quick hold from Andy and it seemed as though the break had done him good and he threatened hard on the Baggy serve but the Cypriot held on. Before we knew it a loose game from Andy and he was a break down. But he came back in some style and in doing so got the crowd up on their feet behind him. From that point on Andy picked up his level and played with passion. Baggy fell over and before long he'd lost the set.
7-5

FOURTH SET
And they are really on the clock because play must finish at 11pm tonight.
24mins to go ... and the crowd are raring to go and cheering Andy from the rafters.

Andy began in flying form and carved out a quick hold and then proceeded to break Baggy. Another hold, to love, took him to 3-0. Gritty hold from the Cypriot for 1-3. Another quickish hold from Andy and he's up 4-1. He wants this done and gives Baggy no breathing room bouncing straight out onto court rather than sit at the change of ends.
10.56 and Baggy to serve
10.59 and there's the break.

Andy needs to start the next game before the referee gets on court because they have a bit of leeway to finish a game that has started; Andrew Jarrett appears courtside.
Andy wastes no time and he takes the set, and match, in style!

R16: Andy Murray def Marin Cilic 7'5, 6'2, 6'3

I didn't personally watch the first half of Andy's match because I was sat on Court 3 at the time watching Kerber thrash Clijsters and then the start of Gasquet's defeat by Mayer. So this summary is culled from various sources.

Suffice to say Andy played very well, foot on the gas from the moment play started and no let up until he won and got off the court before the rain delayed him any further.

... more to follow ('cos I'm watching the replay!).

Off to find me wellies.

Andy Murray v David Ferrer.
The match so far - for those coming in from work needing a quick catch up!

Set 1- David to serve
Sharp start for Ferrer - not so for Andy who was taken to *15-40 in his first service game of the match. The Spaniard held again despite, Andy getting a couple of break points, and then went on to break the Briton to go 3-1 up on his own serve.

Play continued to go with serve until 5-2 when Andy held for *3-5 and forced Ferru to serve for it. And that's when the Spaniard faltered - and Andy stepped it up to break back and hold for *4-5. Back on serve but now Andy has to serve again to stay in the set.

5-5 and now Andy is putting pressure on the Ferru serve at *15-30 but the 'Ferret' holds on and it's Murray at *5-6. He holds, tie-break and Andy went ahead early but Ferrer broke back and kept up the pace to take the first set.

Ferrer to serve first:-
*0-1
0-2* Ferru into the net
1-2* but a great pass from Ferrer puts them back on serve
*2-2 good serve from Ferrer, mis-hit return from Andy
*3-2 great play from Ferrer with a 'get' from a Murray dropshot.
4-2* the ball dropped in but Andy didn't get to it in time
4-3* Got'im at the net.
*5-3 Andy stumped with the last shot
*5-4 Ferrer hits wide
5-5* great serve from Andy, hit long by Ferrer.
6-5* Andy hits into the net and Ferrer will serve for the set (again!)
*7-5 This time the Spaniard makes it .......

1 set down and 3 or 4 to go.

Only 51% first serves in from Andy and that's perhaps what hurt Andy most in the first set. He needs a few more free points to hold serve quickly and easily.

2nd set - Andy to serve
Good hold to start for Andy, and the games went with serve.

At 2-2 Andy produced a couple of Aces and shortened the points for a much easier hold but still manged to run down everything and in the 9th game he broke a lacklustre Andy.

Muzzah broke straight back and it went to another tie-breaker. Despite going down 2-5 again Andy held on, played some clutch points and took the 2nd set 7'6(6).

Andy serving first:
*0-1 Ferrer zooms across the court for a pass
0-2* serve volley from Ferrer.
0-3* Now Andy must dig really, really deep to take this set.
*1-3 great serve
*2-3 great dropper from Andy
2-4* Andy hit the lob out
2-5* this is a repeat of the first set score!
*3-5 good point
*4-5 now he must break Ferrer's serve twice!!!
5-5* amazing from both players, tough tennis
5-6* floating return from Andy, set point for Ferrer
*6-6 phew ........
*7-6 great saving from Andy!
8-6* and that break of the Ferrer serve gave Andy the 2nd set.

SETS 3 AND 4

In a few words.

Duracell Dave stayed true to his nickname and fought to the very end. It took a supreme effort from Andy, who remained focussed throughout the match, to break him and close it out in the 4th set tie-breaker. There were some wonderful rallies, great serving and shot-making from both.

It seemed as though Dave slowed up a little in the 3rd set (perhaps his age and those cigarettes he smokes had an effect?) and although Andy was broken in the 4th set he fought back straightaway. There was a sense of purpose about Andy when it came to the crunch and he found a way past the WR#5 in the final few points of the match.

Braveheart bested The Beast and is into his 4th consecutive Semi-Final at Wimbledon!
