Come on Andy! Positive thinking!

david1610
08-07-2012, 16:33
OK. So it was to be in five. So be it.
Andy 49% serves that set. It is always about the quality of serving when playing Federer. Get that figure back up and we will be fine.
C'mon Andy Murray fans. Believe!
C'mon Andy!

Feder being smug, losing hope...... it will not help.

Please.... Andy still needs two sets. He will get them by serving better.

This match is NOT lost. Please don't act as if it was.

Believe!

How long can Roger keep producing that sort of tennis on break points? If Murray keeps holding and keep applying pressure on RF's serve. He will eventually be rewarded.

Well played Andy. Well played Roger.
That was a great, great tennis match.
Please let's ignore the Roger Federer ego displays in the next few minutes and build on the Andy Murray we just saw.
The best person I know behind the scenes in any British sport is Dave Brailsford, the Sky team manager and also responsible for preparing Britain's olympic cyclists.
He is so, so thorough in preparation that even though he is not a tennis specialist, get Andy and Ivan to talk to him!

Think of the future! There was some great play by Andy today!

Sooo hard to watch Andy's interview but he did extremely well to hold it together in the end. Well tears have been shed but we MUST focus on the positives, Andy played really well today and must be proud of that.

Just so devastating to watch. It's just so unfair that he gets to 17 while Andy still has 0. I really felt it was Andy's turn but i know Andy will come back at the US Open and try there. He'll keep trying and he will get 1 at least, i am sure of that.

The interview was hardest for me though to take. It was just heartbreaking to watch.

Feel like stuffing my face with strawberries until I'm sick!

Cried all thru the interview with Sue at the end. Hope the doubters can finally see just what it means to him.

Cross with the crowd who cheered Fed as much as they did Andy but at the end of the day, Fed did play better in the important moments & Andy came up a little short & didnt take all the chances he had.

A break will do Andy the world of good.

Absolutely gutted. Think fitness would have favoured Andy if there hadn't been the rain break, but his first serve pretty much went AWOL after the roof was shut and Fed upped his game.

While I would never wish anyone dead, if Bouncy was to die then I hope its something slow and painful!

Fed was ok in interview, at least didn't rub salt in wound. Andy played great first two sets. Fed played great last 2 sets. Andy's serve went walkies a bit. Apart from that no complaints, no excuses. Great tournament Mr Murray :thanks:

Well I wasn't proven wrong - unfortunately. Really weak backhand? Hmmm he seemed fine today. The better player for sure. I really think Andy would have been better off playing Djokovic or even Rafa. I can stomach a loss to one of them.

Too bad for oor Andy. But at least he got to the final and I'm so proud of him for that, no matter what the critics say. But another loss to Federer in another GS final SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Roll on the mixed dubs final. At least we had one Brit win this weekend! And two Canuck champs to boot. And Andy in the final of course. So that's really positive!

Andy played so well. In the first two sets I really thought he would win - he just looked like a champion somehow. The roof changed it all - Roger is the new indoor slam champion. But there were only a few points in it; surely Andy will win next time.

So the dream over for now, so gutting. However, still immensely proud of Andy, it was a good tournament for him after all! We have to accept that whilst Andy was the better player in the first two sets Fed stepped it up when it mattered and Murray just couldn't quite match up. Think Andy could've played better in the 3rd and 4th sets but was obviously under pressure and it was disappointing that Andy's first seve deserted him at crucial moments. I'm sure the best is yet to come and as always Andy gives us many thrilling moments.

Earlier I posted that I hoped Andy would make an old lady very happy - well he hasn't made me very happy but he has made me very proud. He said he would give it his all and he did, nobody can do more. I've always felt he wouldn't win Wimbledon (well not as his first grand slam anyway) and that it would come at the US or Australian. So Andy, be proud, relax a little and then onwards and upwards! I reckon you've gained some new fans out there too and perhaps those of my friends who dammed him will realise he is quite a nice guy who just wants to fulfil his dream;to see him in tears - and his mum and Kim - had me in tears too.

suppose we can hope that the crowd may have a different make up
AFAIK every Olympic committee in the world had tickets to sell through their official representatives (however they arranged that). What percentage of ticket sales were UK-based or international based I do not know, but it would seem reasonable to presume that the crowd should be more international in its make-up, and, all things considered, willing to support a player who shows he/she merits that support!

What finals have Castle, Lloyd and Henmen been in NONE. Such an emotional speech and glad smug didnt speak long, he didnt even thank andy for a great match which is something Nadal always does. The Only thing I would say was when Andy started to cry when being interviewed why didn't Sue as an experienced Broadcaster take the mike away and interview Roger first, then come back to Andy when he was a bit more composed.

I have always thought it is cruel to ask the defeated player to give an interview, before he has time to collect himself.

I didn't expect him to win, all I was really hoping for was that he would give a better account of himself than he has done in his previous finals, and he did that. I still think he would have had a better chance if he had met Djokovic in the final, but it wasn't to be. No matter how badly he plays during a tournament, Fed nearly always manages to pull out a good performance in finals. Eight Wimbledon finals, and he has won seven of them! And the other was very close.

I think Lendl has made an enormous difference to Andy's attitude (and forehand, and second serve), and I'm still looking forward hopefully. The trouble is, Andy's best surface in hard, and there are so many good players on hard.

Andy should be really proud of how hard he fought today - such progress in his mental attitude from his last slam final. He came out fully focused and really made Federer have to come up with his best tennis to get the win. Right now he'll be disappointed but I hope in time when he reflects on this match and the tournament he'll see the positives. He's negotiated a very tough draw and has shown such improvements in his mental toughness. And I think his matches have been the best in the tournament - loved the Andy-Ferrer match in particular, my two favourite players. :)

Federer deserves credit for how well he played today. I always thought he'd get another slam and it was most likely to be at Wimbledon, just wish it hadn't been at Andy's expense. Great effort from him to be back at number 1 again too.

Andy's time will come - I still think his best chance of a slam would be at the Aussie Open, but he's got a good shot at the US Open too. And of course there's the Olympics to look forward to as well.

I think it was the reaction of the crowd that made Andy so emotional. To be cheered by 15,000 people when you've lost must be absolutely gutting. I can't imagine how Judy and Kim must have felt - to have all those people cheering for your son/partner must be increduble.

I am so sad for Andy that he lost - a win at Wimbledon would have taken so much pressure off him - but after the rain delay Fed played like a man possessed. I found his remark about Andy winning 'at least one GS' highly patronising - why couldn't he say 'many Grand Slams'? Let's hope it's his last hurrah and he decides to retire at the top.

Now I've re covered I'd just like to add how proud I am of Andy. Whilst I find Federer a pain at times I have to say he played really well today, especially after the roof closed. I'm still unbelievably sad. But not disappointed, because he gave it his everything and was determined until the very last shot. It was certainly his best GS final. I really hope he will do great at the US Open. He has proven in the past that he can beat anyone, so he will just have to do it at the right time. I don't think it's gonna be long now. But even if it takes him another year or two, I will always root for him and believe in him. That interview at the end was so heartbreaking though. At least I have stopped crying for now. Took me much longer than Andy. :( I believe he won the hearts of the whole nation with that speech.

I'm kinda at a loss of words concerning Federer. I really don't like that guy and I try SOO hard... But from an objective point of view he was the better player today. At least in the last two sets.

dewster99

So proud of Andy. After 3 pretty lacklustre efforts previously he came out sharp, aggressive and focused and even stunned the "GOAT" at how fast he started. After that first set I didn't even celebrate too much cos I knew there was a long way to go but so pleased he's got off the mark in sets won in finals now and he really deserved it. The 2nd set he dodged a few bullets but there was just one too many and ultimately I feel it was the slip rather than Federer beating him that cost him that set. If he could just have got to a TB it could've been so different. Frustrating from 40-0 up too.

After the roof closed it was always Fed who had the advantage and Andy's serve dropped off quite a bit so it was a testament to the rest of his play that he kept in there so long. To be honest I think that the way Fed palyed after the break was the best 2 sets I've ever seen from him and the play at the crucial stages of the 2nd was up there too. He seemed so much faster than normal and the FH was just outrageous. Andy gave it his all and really could not have played much better so yet again he's been exceedingly unlucky. If he'd won the 2nd set, even with the rain I think he would've been 70-75% favourite to win it. It's such small margins but I think Lendl's impact on his mental game has been fantastic.

You're a great player Andy. It would be an utter travesty for you not to win a slam one day, at least 1

Linda
08-07-2012, 19:44
I was so impressed with the way Andy looked right from the start of the match today. He came over as mature, relaxed and confident, with absolutely no trace of his old 'Kevin the Teenager' persona. I think Lendl can be credited with helping Andy in this way. Also, did you notice the players before they came out on court? Andy had a racquet in his hand and was jumping up and down - exactly what Rafa does. I think he was trying to remind Fed of his one loss in a Wimbly final, and I'm sure Lendl put him up to that too.
