View Full Version : OLYMPICS - SINGLES R3: Andy battles by Baggy 4'6, 6'1, 6'4
Sallydaisy

No wonder Andy wanted to get that R2 match done and dusted pdq - he's probably playing twice on Wednesday. R3 of the Singles and R1 of the Mixed Doubles are on the Schedule.
Andy meets Marcos Baghdatis against whom he has a 4-3 H2H. (http://www.atpworldtour.com/Players/Head-To-Head.aspx?pId=MC10&oId=B837)
He had a tricky win over the Cypriot just 4 weeks ago in R32 at Wimbledon with a 4 set win.
This could again be a testing match for Andy and one he'll want to win in 2 sets if possible.

I've put this match down for Wednesday but that could change ...
The schedule states all R3 Singles matches are to be played tomorrow.
However, the rain is delaying quite a few players from getting through R2 so if they have to finish tomorrow that could disrupt the R3 schedules.
I had a feeling it would be Baggy and not Gasquet. Andy looks like a man on a mission - I don't think Baggy will trouble him even though he's dangerous on grass.

Great timing from Wiggins to bag the gold before Andy's match starts ........
Nole has just beaten Rusty so Andy will be on very soon!!!
Out comes Andy. :) Great, Bouncy on commentry.
Ooer, BP already. :sofa: Please hold Andy.
Ouch, broken in the first game. Baggy being more aggressive.
Not a good start - Andy doesn't look happy out there. He doesn't much like playing in the wind and it looks pretty windy. Early days though - Djoko lost the first set.
Sallydaisy
01-08-2012, 15:24
He needs to shorten the points - Baggy is doing better in the rallies.
Oh, and get the serve firing!
2-0.
Today when I was out I was passing by one of the big TV screens I saw a ticker saying that Andy's QF was tomorrow. A tad premature I think and thus I'm bringing this out and hope Andy wakes up. :cauldron:
cmmmmmmmoooooonnnnnnn andyyyyyy

Holds to 15; that'll do. Now we need a break back a.s.a.p.
I should like to throttle Bouncy Castle.
Just saying.
Careful, Sally, the police might arrest you for making threats of violence! :rolling:
Andy breaks back already! :cheer:
Sallydaisy

Andy just takes a couple games to get going

I was using the words Bouncy Castle in the generic sense (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inflatable_castle).
Allegedly.

PS just got in.... story of the match so far?
Sluggish start from Andy, Baggy coming out aggressive meant that Andy lost the 1st set.
2nd set onwards Baggy started making more errors and Andy woke up and is now cruising along.
Sallydaisy
01-08-2012, 17:09
Baggy desperately trying to stay in this match.
Had Ad but a winner from Andy made it deuce.
Net play from Baggy and he's Ad and finally holds.

Fantastic match agains a dangerous opponent - I'm soooooo proud of our boy!
It was fantastic how Andy managed to turn the match around. From passive play in the first set to dictating play in the third. Loved his reaction at the end too, it obviously means a lot to him. :)

What a fantastic match ..... and we were there ....
After 2 matches on Court 18 we thought we'd try the re-sale booth and to our amazement traded in our ground passes and got 4 Centre Court tickets for £12 (kids only £1 each)! Got in by middle of 1st set ........ Niknak's little brother's 1st time at Wimbledon and he was beside himself! Andy did us proud, the crowd were amazing and we got home at midnight exhausted.
So anyone with ground passes it's well worth a try ... we only queued for a few minutes...hopefully a blog of trip with pics to follow :olympics:
Sallydaisy

I'm so glad you got in - I definitely spotted NikNak in the crowd during the match but the camera was so quick I didn't see who was alongside him. That's not bad either price wise - £5/adult and £1/child!!!
It'd be great to have a blog and photos if/when you can.
Wow - amazing, Niknak's Mum. So glad someone actually got to use some of these redundant tickets too!
