Absolutely euphoric after that. Andy played so well and stepped up when needed. So proud of him and happy for him. Now for Sunday...he can beat FedX. Just needs to stay calm and play his A game. He'll be on that podium, let's hope the Union flag is flying high for our lovely boy.:GBflag::GBflag::GBflag:

I just so wish Potty had beaten Federer today. But at least unlike the Wimbly final should Andy lose he still gets a great reward.
WOW WOW WOW Absolutely Brilliannnnnnt Andy...and does he deserve it ...you bet !!!!! He has played in the singles, doubles and mixed doubles ...if anyone deserves a medal in these Olympics .....ITS ANDY :):):):) and YES he definitely wants it for GB as much as he does for himself and if he plays with the determination like tonight .... Federer has no chance :) GBflag:
^^ Yes, I agree, Alis.
So glad he has secured a medal for himself. Go Andy - it's your time to shine!

Andy is a HERO.....the only British male in this event and he has reached the final.....if anyone deserves the GOLD it's certainly Andy! Whatever happens on Sunday he has done his country, and us,
proud!.....Go for GOLD, Andy!
The difference is the Davis Cup-like atmosphere with everyone cheering. That's what spurs him on. (Perhaps he should have taken up a sport where the usual spectators are a little less reserved :rolling:)

I think he's got a better chance than at Wimby. He's won more fans now, and he's representing Britain so hopefully they won't be supporting Fed like they did at Wimby.
And today he's played the best that I've seen, and fought to save sooooo many break points. Admitedly I wish it was going to be best of three sets, but hey we can't have everything. Cummon Andy!!!

I have a good feeling. :)
Andy has achieved what he wanted (to get a medal) so all the pressure should be on Federer who maybe wants the gold too much? This is a new situation with him as well so it's a level playing field with neither having playing in a gold medal match. With this being a 5 set match, hopefully Fed will start to feel the effects of his semi match with Andy being the fresher. Andy playing mixed doubles shouldn't hinder him as he would be out practicing anyway today. Just he has a competitive practice instead. ;)
And the crowd will play their part and Andy will feed of that! Go for GOLD Andy, you can do it!!! :gold::GBflag:
I just hope playing mixed twice today does not tire him too much.
Hopefully Federer won't be fully recovered from his long Friday match.
Awesome that Andy is going to get no less than silver but yes.........going for gold. Think he will need to play better than he did in the second set yesterday though. I do like the point he's made about it being a first for both him and Fed, so more of a level playing field. Have been having a jumble of thoughts along the following lines:
1. This is like a slam........but not a slam;
2. Andy is playing for his country maybe more than for himself which may make it easier to up his game in some ways;
3. It's a 5 setter and Andy has never had the chance to challenge Fed in a 5 setter other than in a slam;
4. If Andy can win this......not a slam......but 5 sets........it may help him when it comes to facing Fed or whoever in an actual slam;
5. Andy should have the almost full support of the crowd, unlike at Wimbly;
6. If Andy gets gold, it could be the trigger to him winning a slam and going on to great things, like winning the DC was for Nole.
Not sure where my head is going with all that but I've got everything crossed for gold!

That's my only worry too. I was so sure that Fed would be shattered but Andy is going to be pretty tired with 2 more mixed matches to come as well. Just hoping that the difference will be that Fed is mentally tired after that long match whereas Andy is high on adrenalin. :gold:

I think today will have helped Andy because he now knows he's going to get 2 olympic medals. He is playing really well and today should not have tired him - in fact enjoying this may have been better than practice. His serve is so reliable at the moment and could be key so lets hope it continues.

Doesn't really matter. He only has to defend 45 points (which he is assured to, since the top eight seeds receive a bye into the second round). Plus only Djokovic (as defending champion) is playing out of the top players. So the route to the final should be "slightly" easier. ;)

Not quite.
Andy is only defending 10 points from the 2011 Canada Masters (not 45) because he was a top 8 seed last year and the Bye gets him a 0 this year.
He won't earn any points in 2012 until he plays a R3 match; if he loses that he gets 90.
The Canadian Masters is a 64 draw event with, this year, the top 16 seeds all getting a Bye.
So for 2012 the ATP1000 Ranking Points per round reached are as follows:-
W: 1000, F: 600, SF: 360, QF: 180, R16: 90, R32: 45 (Seeds 0), R64: 10 (WC: 0)
In 2011 (in a non-Olympic year only the top 8 seeds got a Bye with 56 first round matches) the
ATP1000 Ranking Points per round reached were:-
W: 1000, F: 600, SF: 360, QF: 180, R16: 90, R32: 45 (Seeds 1-8 10), R64: 10 (WC: 0),

I agree with all of this Pabbers. Andy looks like a man on a mission to me - I don't think his two matches today will have taxed him too much either physically or mentally - he seemed to be having fun!

I hope you're right, he seemed to evade that question abit in his interview with Laura afterwards, just said 'we'll see'. I'd love us to get two gold tomorrow, just nervous.....
I think with Team GB winning so many Gold today will inspire Andy to do well and with 90+% crowd behind him, he will do the Singles I think and I hope Laura plays better and holds her serves in crucial moments tomorrow as Azarenka is no Stosur, she is full of confidence and will not give team GB an easy ride. Laura seems to blow hot and cold in a matter of seconds. One moment she's a genius the next awful. Go Andy Go Laura

It's because they normally deal with sports that fit nearly into timetables so they put in time slots for everything regardless of whether it is right. It's best ignored.
The ITF information is far more accurate because they're the governing body of tennis at the Olympics.

Please, not a repeat of the Wimby final :(
Come on Andy you can do this. Andy might not have revenge on his mind but I do, I want Federer to be crushed mercilessly after what he did to Andy and all of us who wanted Andy to win Wimbledon. I just hope the rain stays away as that roof will help Roger.
The Very, Very Best of Luck Andy!!!:thumbup:
It looks like the roof will be in action, so Andy now needs to find a way to make it work for HIM, instead of Fed.
He's won under it before, and he can do so again.
I just hope he doesn't put more pressure on himself, because now the media target is to equal the Beijing gold count - think we need 5.
I just want him to wipe the floor with Federer because he really deserves the accolade.
But he will have to play the match of his life.
It is amusing me how they think that as soon as that match is over he will be straight out - they will have to give him some suitable rest ... and hopefully that means the crowd will get time to go out and get food etc, and then ALL come back to support the MxD match.
They're interviewing Tim now, which I am relieved about as he is such an advocate of Andy (rather than some commentators we could mention)
Not too worried about the roof. Would rather things started as they meant to go on rather than have to stop and change conditions midway. Feel sure Andy has factored this into his mental preparation and strategy after the Wimbly loss. With the roof closed the crowd noise in support of Andy will be stellar!
Wishing you all the luck in the world, Andy:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:: OGwave:

Exactly - at every stage in his career he has found a way to take things away from his experiences. He gained strength and core fitness when previously he would succumb to cramps, he came out aggressively and got his first Slam final set when previously he started too cautiously. Every time he has come away from those shattering experiences, he has gained something.
And this is different to Wimbledon - there is a sense of pride to compete for one's country. He will contend many slams in his life, but to experience a Home Olympics is like nothing else.
I cannot WAIT to hear the crowd ... the rush is on to get as much done as humanly possible before 2pm!

The way Andy played to extinguish Nole's title hopes gives us hope some optimism though still regard Fed as the favourite here. Sure Andy will be inspired and if he is assertive and confident certainly has a shot here. Of course Fed had very lengthy semi but of course we can't count on him being jaded and Murray did play the mixed yesterday. Looking forward to it anyway! Just hope the weather will have improved in time as would prefer the roof to be open.

Andy has mentioned that both of them start on an equal footing in terms of zero gold medals for singles.
That is very important as Andy also mentioned that Andy was always starting from less experience.
Not this time.
And the crowd should be more for Andy rather than the normal Wimbledon crowd.
Andy has warmed to the atmosphere.
He wants this so much for GB.
Still needs to serve out of his skin throughout and play well but all in all the odds are much better than usual for Andy.
So much hope he can do this and it will be a career-defining moment.
Oh and for Laura's sake, if he can still have plently left in the tank for the mixed doubles, even better!
Sad to see that the roof is on. I hope they open it. Here, we had torrential rain 6-7am but it's been glorious sunshine since - so probably Wimbledon will be sunny for the rest of the afternoon now that they've had the rain.
Have organised dinner at lunch time to get it out of the way........unfortunately I have no appetite at the mo. Maybe by 1 o'clock..........
Think there are some other interesting factors here. Fed has never won olympic singles gold and this is his last chance whereas Andy will always have at least Rio and he's got another shot at gold in the mixed too so I think that takes the pressure right off him. I really do feel this is Andy's for the taking though and how amazing that would be if it happens.
Thinking over the years that the press/media have taken Andy's comments out of context, not able to get photos of him falling out of nightclubs, just pics of him walking the dogs, etc. and generally over-criticised and under-valued him, so right now, Andy, enjoy today, then take your two medals, whatever colour, and ram them down certain peoples' throats!
Good luck, Andy. I agree with Boris:
Boris Becker @Becker_Boris
Roger is the favorite but there is something magic about Andy these days ...its written in the stars!
Sad to see that the roof is on. I hope they open it. Here, we had torrential rain 6-7am but it's been glorious sunshine since - so probably Wimbledon will be sunny for the rest of the afternoon now that they've had the rain.
When I was driving along my Wimbledon route this morning to get the groceries it started to HAMMER it down so I am not at all surprised the roof is on.
It's quite on and off here at the moment - and I think if it stays on all day then they start from level footing. And anyway - he has to get used to adapting to all his surroundings, roof on or off and I would really like to think he never thinks in terms of "it t
will give Roger the advantage"...
I read a great thing in the Newspapers and Internet thread about Andy's analysis of the Wimbledon final - and again that just demonstrates how mature an approach he is taking, and taking positives away from these experiences for next encounters.
I noticed Andy had said that a medal is a medal and about being able to contribute to Britain's medal haul and I think this is quite clever on his part (and not at all defeatist). Right now everyone is looking to the Beijing Haul, golds in particular, whereas if Andy is focussing on the fact he will be adding to our medal haul no matter what, I hope this means he is taking some pressure off himself to help reach the magical 15 barrier, and that he will be swinging just a little more free than Fed, who was pipped to the first Swiss gold by one of the female triathletes yesterday.
He will be at his most dangerous for Fed when he has nothing to lose and can just go for those outrageous shots that other mere mortals miss by miles.
Oh and for Laura's sake, if he can still have plently left in the tank for the mixed doubles, even better!
If Andy beats Fed, he will surely be so fired up that he and Laura will take the mixed, too! Not even a few nervy serves from Laura will undermine that!

Just hope for all those who feel the roof open is essential, that Andy comes up with the goods if it is open. I'm not convinced it will make a difference today - he'll have learned from the last lesson and it's recent enough for him to remember and to be eager to have a chance to try out tactics afresh. Hopefully Fed will be full of overblown confidence!
PS - had my lunch and it's sitting somewhere between my throat and my ribs..........am deffo on count down now. Let the nail biting begin.
Good point Pabbers. But to be fair ANY advantage over Fed is welcomed!

Whatever happens I'm celebrating with a meal at our favourite Mexican restaurant and ice-cream/banana splits afterwards coz an Olympic medal is an Olympic medal and two of them, well that's just even better.
British Tennis @BritishTennis
Conditions wise it's been raining @Wimbledon. Court 1 is currently suspended. The Centre Court roof is closed and may well stay that way
In a way it may be better if the womens doubles goes on for slightly longer until it stops raining.
roof no roof don't care, all I ask for is Andy go's out and dose him self justice

The women have finished already.
Wouldn't worry if the roof is shut, the crowd will soon blow it open!
ITF Olympic Tennis @OlympicsTennis
Covers are still on five games into bronze medal match on Court 1 but rain has stopped and sun trying to come through #OlympicTennis

Andy is wanting it open though.

they can't do the women's dubs medals coz the bronze hasn't been decided as yet so the main event must be on v. soon. With roof.

As long as Andy serves well, I am convinced that this match will be won rather than lost. If Roger plays his absolute, absolute best, then Andy will have to play goat-level tennis.
But as Nole pointed out, Andy played the clutch points better yesterday and if he defends BPs against him and takes his own, then he can win.
Good luck Andy. Your country is proud of you already!
Mike Dickson @Mike_Dickson_DM
Williams sisters win doubles gold, so promptish start for Murray. Sun out - big call now on whether to open roof.

Depends on the forecase whether they leave it shut - somehow I think they will. Ah well - the noise may frighten Fed !
Come on Andy - you so deserve this
rainy days
05-08-2012, 12:55
Come on!!!!
British Tennis @BritishTennis
It's sunny again. Will the roof open? Of course there won't be a medal ceremony for the women's doubles yet as we don't know who has bronze.
Which means Andy Murray & Roger Federer will get started in 10 minutes. Watch it live on @BBCSport. Find it online here

DavidLaw @DavidLawTennis
Roof opening on Centre Court increases Andy Murray's chances by, what, 20%? #Murray #Federer #Olympics2012 #GOLD
Barry Flatman @Barry_FlatmanST
Good news for Murray. The Centre Court roof is opening and bright sunlight is flooding the playing surface.
Beyond The Baseline @SI_BTBaseline
Ted Robinson puts it perfectly. The roof opening isn't necessarily an advantage for Murray, but it negates an advantage for Federer.

I hope this is the right call! I'd much rather it was played under an open roof, but if the rain comes back then, like pabbers suggested earlier, the disruption while they close it could be an issue.
Just hope it can stay open, now they've maxed the decision....
