I think he should just take the rest of the USO series off. Come back for the last few tournies of the year or even wait till Aussie Open. Of course it means losing all the USO points but his knees come first.

Not yet available; the event doesn't start until Sunday.
The ladies are currently in Montreal and none of the British girls are playing this week.

Err, no. What makes you think that?

It's a combined ATP Masters and WTA high profile event so there's a lot to fit in and the ladies start on Sunday, the Men on Monday 13th.

Do you think Lendl will go with Andy to Cincy until Sunday at least now that he pulled out of Toronto?

Who's to say? Lendl never intended to go to Cincy and since it seems Andy needs rest perhaps they'll head down to his pad in Miami? No idea really.

Doesn't seem to be much point staying in Canada especially since the weather forecast is a bit dire so outdoor practice might be tricky.

In ther recent Wrexham tourney ( I realise it's totally different levels), the men rolled up on the Friday, and the women on the Sunday, didn't know if that was a normal pattern if they've got alot of games to fit in.

I don't like the sound of this:

"Normally when I move on to hard courts, I have 10 days or so practicing and you feel things like this, but you can work around it by doing the right training and what not," Murray said. "I don't want to go full out and possibly do any more damage…Over the next few days we'll come up with a plan and strategy to either get myself ready for Cincinnati, or if not, then plan for the best way to prepare for the U.S. Open. But today I won't think about any strategies or whatever. It'll just be about what's the next move and where do we go from here."

Waiting to hear who Andy gets in R2.
R3 potentially Roddick (i.e. last 16 so that's what is seeded)
Qtr: Del Potro
Semi: Nole
Final: Fedex

@WriterSnyder on Twitter:

Federer has a pretty stacked quarter in his future: Ryan Harrison, Bernard Tomic, Brian Baker, Feliciano Lopez, Radek Stepanek all there.

Novak Djokovic benefits from a quarter with four qualifiers. Faces winner of Seppi/Haase. Compatriot Tipsarevic also there. #CincyTennis

Murray should have his hands full: Del Potro, Nalbandian, Haas, Hewitt, Youzhny, Troicki, Isner, Roddick, Melzer, and Querrey loom ahead.

Nightmare draw for Andy but he can do it as he proved in the Olympics!

Don't think so. It was never intended he would be.

I've read in various places that the plan was to catch up in Toronto, Andy to be in Cincy on his tod (well, with the Team Murray crew) and then meet again in the week before the US Open and for Lendl to stay in NYC thru' to the end of Andy's run there.

Such a horrible draw. The other 2 have cakewalk draws. :/ If they don't both make it to the semis I would be surprised. Anyway, we know Andy is pretty good at beating lower ranked players. I just hope he is totally fit now.

And sorry about that car accident rumour I spread. That's just what they said on Twitter.

No mistaking that tum!
:shades:

Must have had a change of plan - or, bearing in mind he was planning to spend this week with Andy (in Toronto) just switched to Cincy where the weather is clearly a lot better!!!

Maybe Llendl was just going to Cincy before the tournament started as the weather was better than Toronto at the time.

Certainly a surprise Stan overcame David as easily as that, Fed didn't have any trouble as expected. It was a good win for Milos over Baggy but Berdy a step up even if he wasn't on form on the grass.

Order of Play - Thursday 16th August

The following OOP (http://www.atpworldtour.com/Scores/schedule.aspx?EventId=422)is taken from the ATP website this morning.

Thanks Madeline. Looks like a typing error from whoever loaded up this morning's version onto the ATP website. When I was tidying up the details of my post I realised his match was missing and thought it very odd so went in search and there's an equally puzzled post in MTF.
Yes, Federer has to play his match today along with the other 7 x R3.

I'll add it back in per your information.

Really happy that Milos was able to beat Berdych (shows how much I know). He's got Stan the Man next up. But that's three great wins under his belt: Gasquet, BagDaddy and now Berdy. He really earned his way to the 1/4 final unlike last week in TO when he just won one match to get there.

Some good scalps for Milos. Danny Nestor (and Mirnyi) lost to Seppi/Troicki in the dubs.

Stan's on fire so I really think Milos is done today. He must be tired after his effort yesterday. Altho' Brad thinks he'll win. Fingers crossed.

I've been following all Milos' matches since the Olympics, and he really impressed me. He's not just about big serving like many people think; he has some proper talent! And he's the most promising youngster out there... at least he doesn't have a big ego.

Stan has been playing well lately.. his serve was on fire yesterday but I still think Milos has a chance. I was pretty sure he was going to beat Berdych as the Czech has been off-form since the start of the grass court season.

Go Milos! :yahoo:

They just showed highlights from the 2008 Cincy final - Andy v Novak. Two things struck me - how good they were at just turned 21 and how young they looked. They certainly seem to have aged more than 4 years in the interim!

Straightforward for Milos thus far, and Nole had little trouble! Whilst not surprised Del Potro went through thought Chardy might have had a bit more resistance.

And Aya and Alis are right, Stan will just lay down and let Fed walk all over him tomorrow. Still, Milos did really well to get to the 1/4 final and with no points to defend he should go up a few ranking spots again this week. :yahoo:

Stan/Fed is such a boring matchup, so predictable. Wish Milos had won yesterday, would have been nice for him to have reached a first Masters SF.

I think Del P's wrist was a concern to him and did not want to go for it and risk severe injury before the Open and Davis cup. Semi is a good result and lots of points for the O2. Hope he is OK for next week as one does not want the best to be out. Novak is a lucky boy, Davydenko retired and Juan injured, he might be playing a lot but getting byes all the time from his opponents.

Federer played fine but one has to wonder if the result would have been different had Djokovic been up to speed from the first ball struck. Not sure but I think not. And where is his coach? Has his absence got anything to do with his alleged "personal problems"?

I must admit that I hadn't heard about Novak's alleged problems until I read your post!

Didn't take much digging around online to find out more. How strange that it is a former coach of his that has stated this, too.

Very disappointing final with the same very predictable result. :grrr:

While the Federer domination of the game may be great from Fedfan and marketing points of view for the sake of the sport of tennis it's really time for other players to step up to the plate. Why is it not possible for other players like Andy to break through and really make their mark on the sport? Is it because Fed has dominated the game for so long and so many players have had their hopes and dreams destroyed by him that they are beaten before they even step on to the court? When did Fed last lose to a player outside the top 3 in an early round of a tournament? I can't think of another #1 player who has not suffered shock defeats in early rounds of tournaments from time to time in their careers.

super8
20-08-2012, 09:52
Are you kidding?

We've had 3 slams so far, this year, plus the Olympics.

All of them won by different players.

Also, the top 4 have all appeared in 2 finals each. All very evenly split.

I would counter your claim about the Fedfan/ marketing perspective too. From a neutral's perspective it is always interesting to see how a champion player responds when really challenged. It shows what they are really made of. This is what makes Fed's recent achievements all the more interesting. You could add to that Rafa recently breaking the hoodoo that Novak had over him and Andy beating Roger in a best of 5 set match.

To be honest I was surprised when Nole rose to the heights he did last year because apart from painting the lines I didn't see a huge improvement in his game (well maybe his serve as well) so maybe he's back to normal. Gives me great hope for Andy, who IMHO, unlike Nole, still has lots of room for improvement even if some of it is just finishing touches.
