The London 2012 Olympic Games is now over, and what a fantastic ride it's been! The Andy Murray Fan Forum thought it would be a fitting celebration at the end of the Games to hold our own version of the BBC Sports Personality of the Year - so welcome to SPOTOG - the Sports Person of the Olympic Games!

Although all of our Team GB athletes have done their country proud, many have achieved the ultimate prize of winning an Olympic Gold Medal. So here's a chance for all our members to choose from that amazing group of people, and vote for a Person and Team they think has best represented the Spirit of the Games and earned special recognition.

Team GB Gold Medallists:

Teams (choose up to 3)

Helen Glover & Heather Stanning Rowing: Women's Pair
Tim Baillie & Etienne Stott Canoe Slalom: Men's Double
Philip Hindes, Jason Kenny & Chris Hoy Cycling: Men's Team Sprint
Kath Grainger & Anna Watkins Rowing: Women's Pair
Ed Clancy, Steven Burke, Geraint Thomas & Peter Kennaugh Cycling: Men's Team Pursuit
Alex Gregory, Pete Reed, Tom James & Andy Triggs Hodge Rowing: Men's Four
Sophie Hosking & Kat Copeland Rowing: Womens Lightweight Double Sculls
Dani King, Laura Trott & Jo Rowsell Cycling: Women's Team Pursuit
Nick Skelton, Ben Maher, Scott Brash & Peter Charles Equestrian: Team Jumping
Carl Hester, Laura Bechtolsheimer & Charlotte Dujardin Equestrian: Team Dressage

You can select up to three gold-medal-winning teams from the list and, if you would like to, you can discuss the reasons for your choices in the thread.

The vote will be open until Thursday 16th August, after which we will announce the results.

But I'm part of this forum too.

Of course you are :) and if you want to post your own Canada-based poll then you would be very welcome to.

We did Team GB cos that's where the forum is based, and there's no way we could have done a poll including all two-hundred-and-however-many-there-are gold medallists. No offence to anyone else intended :)
