Find it strange that in Coaches Corner there is no thread for people who want to play?? I know a couple of people have lessons and I'm sure they used to be a players thread in the old forum ...

I have been blatted all through the summer by randoms wanting to play but the latest one turned up a bit of a surprise - A tennis coach at the Leisure Centre that was opposite my flat, less than a mile from where I live now!

Over the Olympics I wrote a piece for the Huffington Post about the Games inspiring more than just the younger generation and after my last visit with the physio, she advised that I could consider more activity so I will be starting beginners lessons for 6 weeks starting in September.

I played at school but it has been so long and with lingering knee and back injuries, I am coinciding this with working alongside a Personal Trainer at the gym who specialises in back pain management and posture correction which should help the knees too.

Undecided about where I will blog about this - either a new blog I started called Operation Get Fit Again, or in Chalkdust Chronicles.
Looking forward to the challenge and maybe one day playing people from here.

I don't know anyone who plays through All-Play.

For a few years, my local leisure centre ran a drop-in tennis session once a week at a very cheap price. But they gave up a couple of years ago due to lack of interest. I was very sad that this finished, as i was often the only person who turned up so got one-to-one coaching for only about £3.50.

Otherwise, I go to the group coaching session at my tennis club. I pay about £44 per month for membership, and I pay £80 for ten sessions of group coaching. So it's not cheap.

Yeah, not convinced about this all-play lark. Our local tennis centre charges £10 for a 'social' two hour session, and you get a coach present, but not coaching as such. Rip off if you ask me.

Thanks for answering, folks... and of course the HUGE irony is... I am not actively using all-play myself - it was by mere happen-stance that I realised that there was a coach actually less than a mile away from where I live, and a series of ok-priced lessons.

Oh well the fun and games start for me on 11th September and in the mean time I am gradually reintroducing my hurdling-knackered limbs back into exercise, so that I can at least hold myself up for an hour!!!

I have just joined my local tennis club, haven't played for 50 years! Have started with the coach doing some cardio drills as there isn't a cardio tennis group going at the moment but I am trying to drum up interest. Went to the open day today with my youngest GD, she had great fun playing mini tennis and I had a go with the big boys. It was just a social knock up but I really started to get my eye in, so a great afternoon. Will need my swimming tomorrow provided I can get out of bed to go there!!!

I miss playing tennis. Have been out for almost a month after sprained ankle :(

I was out for almost four months following a broken wrist back in February. Even now I fear the court just in case I fall again. Hopefully it won't be too long till you're back on court.
