Andy's back in action tomorrow ......

They last met 2 years ago in Los Angeles in the Final with SamQ coming out the winner.
4 years ago in the same round in Cincinnati Andy posted a straight sets win.

The match will be played on Wednesday, details tbc.

Matches start at 11.00 local, 16.00 UK.

Sofia Arvidsson v Aggie Radwanska are on first followed by Nole v Seppi.
Either of those matches could go to 3 sets ...... then Andy.

So, best guesstimate regarding Andy starting is 20.00'ish onwards.

Now that's a nice civilised time to watch an Andy match - my problem is I have been invited out to dinner ! curses. However, I'll catch him next round..... Hope the euphoria of the Olympic gold medal is still with him and he can come to court with that positive play that we all so enjoyed 2 weeks ago.

Must say, I was expecting Melzer to come through - Querrey has been a bit lack lustre recently - hope Andy can take advantage

Jan

I will definitely try and see this one! Hope Andy can remember how he played in the olympic final and continue in the same way. Also hope his knee holds up.

Won Los Angeles, got to the semis in Washington, beat Melzer and Nishikori in Canada before going out in the 3rd to Djokovic - I thought he seemed in pretty good form.

If I remember correctly, the loss to Querrey in the final of LA 2010, came immediately after his split with Miles MacLagan, when he no doubt had lots of things on his mind. And even then, it was a close match. Knee permitting, he should be ok tonight.

Ooops -:cauldron:

I seem to remember it was difficult year for him. He seemed to go walkabout after losing the 2010 AO Final (his 2nd Grand Slam Final) and only played in mandatories thru to Wimbledon (barring Queens where he lost in R16). After Wimbers he headed to Florida to 'work' and entered LA as a WildCard IIRC before going on to win in Toronto and go out in the QF at Cincy and then the R32 at the USO.

Sam has played well of late but despite all the match practice he might be a bit tired; he played singles and doubles yesterday (totalling 5 sets).

Nole took the first set 7'6, 1'1 in the 2nd.
Once he and Seppi are finished it'll be Andy's turn.
Could be 45/50mins if Noley goes for the win a bit quicker.

What a great match by Andy he really got into Sam's head. Seemingly Sam came into this match with great expectations, and how confident he was. Once I heard that I hoped Andy would bring him down to earth. Go on Andy let the other players see that you are a Champion.

harriet
15-08-2012, 20:45
good to win in straights, andy's shirt soaking, must be hot. easy first set once he had subdued querrey. think andy was getting bored in second, had the break, let sam come in to one game - silly as andy had won previous game with aces. and next game he couldn't buy a first serve went to several deuces, inc A for Sam even, feared andy would drop serve even! but he didn't, and steady progress after that.
fleming, i think, saying noticeable how relaxed andy seemed on court. he has always been a good mover, but his second serve is now a weapon, 74% wins on second serve, not just a pat-a_cake to get the rally started.
and he defends with purpose now. not just extending the rally but shaping it.
his game is developing well. still developing - thanks to lendl?
