I have decided to make the trip out to Melbourne for the first time next year - very excited! I had signed up to be an Australian Open member - the 'set' membership (the middle tier - the top tier you could only go on the waiting list for) - which entitles you to 3 free groundpasses, programme, lanyard and a few other things. Annoyingly when the presale for the 'set' membership opened, I was out at a staff party, so I had to settle for the 'game' membership presale. So after waking up at 3 this morning (!) for when the presale opened at 12 AEST, I managed to get the following:
Hisense Arena
Wednesday 16th January (lower tier)
Rod Laver Arena
Monday 21st January (day session - lower tier)
Thursday 24th January (evening session - higher tier)
Friday 25th January (twilight session - higher tier)
Sunday 27th January (twilight session - higher tier)
I'm of course thrilled to have gotten tickets for the men's semis and finals - I'm hoping they'll reach something close to the standard of this year's - the best set of men's semis and finals, possibly ever I would say. I will be using my 3 free ground passes in the first week, and would imagine that Andy will be on the Margaret Court Arena at least once in his first three matches, and that Heather and Laura will be on outside courts also.
I was wondering if anyone else has been recently, or at all, and has any tips or experiences to share? One thing I was wondering was if I have perhaps missed out on lower tier seating for the semis and finals by not waiting for the general sale? I have always found that when it gets to that stage of the tournament, just being in the stadium is very special, so it's only a minor detail really - but do you think that there will be many lower tier seats put on general sale? Only about half of it isn't corporate seating, and one of the 'match' membership perks is that you get access to lower level seating for the final 5 sessions, so maybe only it's only really available to them - interesting how all tickets cost the same price, regardless of view I thought! I therefore think that I have perhaps not missed out in this regard, and certainly didn't want to take the risk and not jump at the chance to get the tickets that I've now got!
Apologies for the lengthy nature of the post! Any advice or experiences would be much appreciated. :) :) Thanks
