3 of the 4 majors have come and gone and now it's time for Flushing Meadows, the final major of the year (how quickly does time fly!).
http://cmt.funformobile.com/d/644/71/qjyfnsi328/photoalbum1_10thumb.gif
Hopefully a nice action packed race befitting the occasion as let's face it, the last 2 races have been rather flat.

Rules and leaderboard posted here (http://www.andymurrayfanforum.com/forums/showthread.php?538-Bubble-Gap-Championship-2012) (now updated to post Cincy). The aim of this competition is to guess the bubble gap after the US Open. The current race rankings are as follows:

http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/7854/racepreus.png

The current bubble gap is 2370. That's Andy's score (4730) – Tipsarevic's score (2360) = 2370.

Grey players have withdrawn from the US Open.

The highest possible bubble gap is 4360. That's Andy winning the US Open with Tipsarevic going out in his 1st match and no-one overtaking him
The smallest (mathematical) bubble gap is 1220. This involves Andy losing his first match with Tipsarevic winning and Tsonga the finalist.

So in summary, your guess is between 1220 and 4360. The better you think Andy will do the higher your guess.
Remember that you can't guess the same number as someone else and once you've posted your guess you can't change it.

Ranking points on offer for the US Open are:

R1: 10
R2: 45
R3: 90
R4: 180
QF: 360
SF: 720
F: 1200
W: 2000

Good luck to all who take part and may the best driver win! :trophy:

Deadline: Monday 27th August, 4pm UK time

You'll probably sway me if you bring along some bananas - It's likely I'll need a lot of them.

Thanks for everyone's entries. Who knows when the race will start though with this lovely weather. :)

Rain just loves us doesn't it? 17 drivers arrive on a soggy Flushing Meadows track. The stewards are wondering if it will ever let up but thankfully there is small window of clear weather so everyone is rushed out to complete qualifying before the sky changes it's mind.

Ace! tops the list this time round and starts in pole with Cincy winner JAMES4578 also at the front continuing his good form.
Current championship leader cazza99 makes it to 3rd with rondun alongside her.
Genbrit and VamosVixs are on the 3rd row, with the latter finishing in the top 10 the most times so far this year.
Manaus and DaveArneRiise start in 7th and 8th, and the final 2 drivers in the top 10 are jaysee and Golden Lady, both back from a 2 race hiatus.

The minute qualifying was done the heavens open up again. Don't worry, shouldn't be long. We've upgraded from using towels to dry the track - We now have mops and buckets!
:excited:

Phew, nearly done. http://perugiamurderfile.org/images/smilies/mopping.gif Really need to invest in some covers for next year. All this nonsense about them not looking good is silly - If it makes the higher ups happier we'll get some nice looking ones with pretty flowery patterns.

Race should hopefully start soon. :)

In honour of the Mr Lendl - something to pass the time while we wait on the weather..

Novak's looking in scary good form again an Berdy's doing well as usual.
Andy actually dropped back after the Lopez game, having converted one BP less in their match

Hi rondun, not sure how long you've been doing this, but it's awesome! Wouldn't mind it having a comp of its own! :p

Hi rondun, not sure how long you've been doing this, but it's awesome! Wouldn't mind it having a comp of its own! :pStarted doing it last year I think during the French or Wimbledon when the golf was on at the same time as the tennis, just do it for the slams.
Isn't there enough prediction comps, lol! - its good for a bit of fun, but I'm not sure how it would go as a comp, though.

Anyway the leaderboard been updated after the quarters (though it might take a while to show up) and Nole extends his lead to 7 shots.
But can he beat his 12 shot victory of 32 under here last year? Let's hope not!

We were just about ready until somebody had to try and show off his fancy skills with a mop only to fail horribly and trip over all the buckets of water.
:grrr:

Young Bernie has been sent to the corner to reflect on his actions. Hopefully there'll be no more distractions.

With the impending arrival of a tornado, the stewards decide to have a shorter race so that everyone can get out safely. This one is going to be fast and frantic - everyone ready? GO!

All the drivers thunder down the long straightaway jostling for places, JAMES4578 noticably forcing Ace! to the side of the track, he may want to be careful though as he's getting a bit too close to Ace's vehicle...

http://freeemoticonsandsmileys.com/animated%20emoticons/Funny%20Animated%20Emoticons/danger%20driving.gifhttp://freeemoticonsandsmileys.com/animated%20emoticons/Funny%20Animated%20Emoticons/danger%20driving.gif

...oh dear - that's a quite a bit of mess there. rondun and cazza99 very nearly join them but barely escape. Better get the debris cleared as quickly as possible otherwise this could get rather nasty.

The safety car and staff are taking a while to come out though - what's taking them so long?

Manaus
11-09-2012, 18:46
Where are the stewards and staff? The debris of JAMES4578 and Ace!'s vehicles are strewn across the track and no-one is clearing it. There's also a lot of flashing lights and noise over in a nearby building:

:party::shelebrate::cheers::beer:

What on earth? All the staff are partying like mad without a care in the world, is it a special occassion or something?.

This can't be good for the race though:

Oh lord, it's one crash after another, it's complete bedlam! More bits and debris litter the track, causing further pile ups and chaos - is there anyone who's going to finish this race?

A small number of battered and bruised drivers make it out of the mess (mixed with banana skins - where did they come from?), lead by Sallydaisy. Sallydaisy's vehicle looks pristine though, how on earth did she manage that? It looks like there's someone behind her providing support.
http://www.hazelnet.org/icon/cars/kartmonkey.gif

Most of the surviving drivers have to go to the pits for quick repairs allowing Sallydaisy to dominate the rest of the race and claim pole for the 2nd time this year.

Someone will have to clean up all this...Bernie get to work! Meanwhile, can I join the party? :big grin:

Well done to Sallydaisy, pabbers, hfwardhouse and all the other point scorers!
Especially Sallydaisy who not only predicted Andy's win but got the exact bubble gap.
:worship:

I think we all need a rest now and of course time to celebrate.
:yahoo:

See you in Shanghai (which feels very far away).

You can blame Tipsy for that - if he hadn't made it to the QF you'd be near the top.

Attagirl Sally.

And the final scores are in from the flushing meadows old course as well.
Andy actually dropped a shot in the final round, which just goes to show how hard the match was.
Add that to the Lopez match and that was one hard fought for open championship...
