Rafa will marry next month at an abbey in northern Majorca, a Spanish TV station has claimed.

You'd think they'd have waited until the summer, after Wimbledon, no?

Perhaps they are expecting a happy arrival

Did not think of that.

Nadal wins his 1000th match by beating Lopez in Paris. Congrats, a special achievement.

Thanks Stell, this might be really good for Toni, think what he knows but without the family pressures.

Well if he had to pick anyone - and tbh I thought he'd retired - I'm glad he picked a Canadian!

I think this new variant can re-infect....

Reinfections were possible with earlier variants too though rare, higher probability with Omicron. Anyway hopefully Nadal does not take too long to recover. https://www.science.org/content/article/more-people-are-getting-covid-19-twice-suggesting-immunity-wanes-quickly-some

Great that Rafa won the tournament on his return, but he had a walkover and beat two qualifiers. How come Andy never seems to get that kind of draw?

Ahh, right. So that’s what the problem was that came on in the Alcaraz match. Get well soon Rafa, there a FO title to be won!

So sad, he is such an asset to tennis

So the part where he was holding his chest was quite important! I wonder how bad he actually felt when he kept playing?

Just seen Rafael Nadal and his wife are expecting their first child. Lovely news. He should take some time out to celebrate, a good few weeks starting now :rolling:

Just seen this - so sad when their bodies give way. At least Rafa knows he has achieved his potential even if he is stopping before he wants to- unlike Andy who really was stopped in his prime.

So sad about Rafa but pleased Jackie55 and I got to see him play with Roger at the Laver Cup last September

Think it was expected though a blow to the French open and Wimbledon looking unlikely too. Another Spaniard has a shot mind you.

He seems really composed in this interview. Maybe he let it all out when he was so emotional with Federer last year - he knew it was coming?

As a big Rafa fan (my no 2 behind Andy), I am really sad to hear this but at the same time obviously knew that retirement couldn’t be too far away. Just pleased I got to see him play live on Phillipe Chatrier (his favourite court surely) and also saw him at Wimbledon last year (and many more times over the years). I thought then that it could be his last one but looks like he plans a ‘farewell’ year next year so fingers crossed he will be back on the grass one last time.
