Liam lost 6-7 6-7 although had real chances to win second set serving a couple of times for the set but being broken each time.

I think he also had a couple of set points in first set tiebreak so perhaps not at his sharpest last night. However a very productive and encouraging last 2 weeks from Liam.

Great performance from Liam to come through St.Petersburg qualifying beating top seed Radu Albot 6-1 2-6 7-6(4). :clap: This will be his first ATP draw without a wild card. He will be drawn against either Youzhny, Berankis or another qualifier in the first round.

Liam chose well playing St.Petersburg as it has one of the biggest purses for a 250 and he's guaranteed $10125 for making the main draw which is huge given his earnings for 2017 are $41K. By comparison, first round losers in Metz this week earn $5820.

He was scheduled to have w/c 27th Sept off and then play CH Mouquilerons France this week but has withdrawn from that event. He's been playing week-in-week-out since June (bar travelling to/fro the USA) so perhaps has decided to take a short break?

There are loads of Challengers in Europe in Autumn/Winter (https://www.atptour.com/en/atp-challenger-tour/calendar), many of them indoor hard (rather than outdoor clay) so maybe he's decided not to have so much travelling hassle (and cost) and remain in Europe. Travelling to Indian Wells would be costly and unless he made it through a few rounds the points and finance benefits might not work out.

His next scheduled tournament (https://www.dartsrankings.com/tennis/schedules/liam-broady)is Antwerp where he's #52 Alternate for the Main Draw and #15 Alternate for Qualifying.

He might earn more points by winning a few Challenger rounds tbh.

Took the first set 6'4 and leads the 2nd 5'3.

There's a lot of fun being had including a requested underarm (tweener) serve which won the Ozzie the point! The crowd wanted the same from Liam ... who is taking it all in his stride and with good humour. He might not win but the experience is great for him after coming through qualifying.

No doubt Nick will take some beating in this mood though!

Liam has beaten David Goffin in Phoenix Challenger and is into semis. I know that the lovely Daveed is still not back to his best but a good win for Liam nonetheless. He has a lot of points to defend in the next month so fingers crossed he can keep winning to compensate.
