Most of the guys in contention for a place at the WTF are here in Valencia ...

Almagro (2425) needs to cement his place as the likely first Alt and stay ahead of Gasquet (2370) who is in Basle and seeded to meet JMDP (3740) in the Semi-Final there.

Tipsy (2810) needs a good week to hang on to his 9th place (and get in as the 8th player); Tsonga (3310) has probably made it but can't afford to go out in the early rounds here or in Paris and Monaco (2340) has dropped below Gasquet but could overtake again if he plays well here. The other 'chasers' are Raonic (2290), Isner (2205) and Cilic (2150).

Federer is the only one of the top 4 playing this week (in Basle).
Berdych isn't playing this week.

It looks as though Juan Carlos Ferrero is playing his last ever tennis match right now.
He said he was going to retire in Valencia and fellow Spaniard Nico Almagro is ahead 7'5, 3'1.

Going to miss Juanqui aka "the Mosquito".

Not quite his last match - Ferrer & Ferrero are on court now in the doubles.

David Goffin beat Milos Raonic. Gilles Muller beat John Isner.
:hmm:

Some might strange results this week ... Raonic/Isner could have got into contention for the Alt spot in London if they'd won here in Valencia and with Tsonga and Tipsy 'retiring' from their matches there was plenty of chance to get to the Final.

Certainly a few upsets in Valencia, disappimting for both Milos and John! Pity Ferrero's singles career is now over but he had a few special moments and did go through with Ferrer in a ctb.

Milos vs Muller was a rubbish match btw. Also watched a little bit of Federer's 3-set match vs Bellucci. Too bad the Brazilian lost.
