You really want a reply to that last sentence .....

:p

Well at least I was thinking about things that need to be thought about apparently, so I'm not as green as I'm cabbage looking as me dear old dad would've said :phew:

Yes I was thinking hotel first - then we could go in convoy as well to take the angst out of finding the Arena. It's silly, I know, but since the accident with my students I've really started to be conscious of the responsibility of driving other people and not a little anxious too. Not that I'm a bad driver.

Am thinking to leave here about 10am Friday - should take no more than 2.5 hours with a fair wind.

Must look back at emails to see what you said about parking in the hotel car park, Sally.

Here's the Arena ...

We will see you at the arena on Friday as planning to go straight there but will come to the hotel on Saturday as we'll be shuttling .... at least I think that's the plan isn't it Sally?

Sallydaisy

I've been away all over Easter and needed to be back home, as I now am, to pick up on final DC plans. I'll sort it out this evening and email all those concerned.

If anyone is still unsure about DRIVING ROUTES I suggest they use a journey planner via Google, prime up their Satnavs or (because it's still the easiest visually) dig out an old-fashioned road map of the UK and pinpoint the M6 Junctions 2 and 3.

Sallydaisy

Yes I was thinking hotel first - then we could go in convoy as well to take the angst out of finding the Arena.
... and you really really think that we can get all 4 drivers and 11 people arriving from all over the country to be ready to leave the Hilton AT THE SAME TIME on Friday???
Cat herding springs to mind ...
It's precisely why the idea of a minibus was ruled out ...

I suspect there will be one lot who want to get in the minute the gates open at 12noon so they can watch the team warm-up, get autographs and a Costa (so need to leave the Hilton by 11.30am). At least one person coming by plane doesn't arrive at Birmingham Airport until 11.30am let alone catch a train to Coventry and then get to the Hilton ...

So, there's a fair bit to juggle and a convoy might not figure in the plan.
You might have to be very brave Pabbers or perhaps go in a convoy of 2 cars???

SPARE THREE-DAY TICKET. Unfortunately my friend Audrey is ill and her doctor has just told her she should not risk going, so there is a spare ticket for each of the three days in our group block if anyone can make use of it.

That's a great shame Jaysee ... wish Audrey well for us.
Hopefully another tennis fan will be able to join us!

She also has a room booked and paid for at the Hilton for Friday and Saturday nights - would probably need to be a female, as I don't know if we can change the name on the booking!

I think its a disgrace that its not on UK TV. Im going so no issue for me personally. But for people who are not it should be on either British Eurosport or BBC.I am annoyed as I won't be there and was looking forward to watching. Feel that Euro Sport and, of course, the Beeb have let tennis fans down.:grrr::furious:

This afternoon quite early I saw Pabbers, Sally, PatM, Caro, Gill and Joyce. This evening spotted Caro, Gill and PatM. Exciting tennis and both Dan and James played their guts out. So sorry they lost as they truly deserved to win. Proud of them both. Off to bed now as my eyes and head aching after staring at screen for so long. What was frustrating...ls freezing so often. Didn't even see end of Wardy's match.

Well HOW GOOD WAS THAT?!!!!!!!!!! Wardy was awesome this afternoon and we were so sad to have to leave before Dan's match, but I had to be a good mum as it's back to school for my boys tomorrow. Got home in time to watch the last set of Dan's match on the livestream ....... gutted to miss the celebration after being there for 4 out of 5 matches ........... but SOOOOOOOO PLEASED AND THRILLED ABOUT THE RESULT

A big thank you to Sally for all her brilliant organisation YET AGAIN :flowers: and to everyone for letting us join the group despite our pitiful amount of contribution to the forum these days. We didn't really have a chance to talk to many of you, but it was good to see you all, and what a great support you all are for the GB team. Fantastic! What a day, and what a weekend...!

I think if we were honest with ourselves, most of us didn't think the guys would be able to pull it out of the bag today - despite the brilliant result in the doubles yesterday, after two gruelling five-setters on Friday which didn't go our way, it was a huge ask and I was worried that Friday's results would be hard for James & Dan to recover from.

But how awesome were they!! I always felt Dan could win, but James Ward really impressed me today. His serving was phenomenal - I haven't seen any stats, but there were a lot of aces (each of which earned £200 worth of tennis equipment for Coventry primary schools - thanks LTA!) and lots of service winners. Plus his body language was different, he seemed really up for it, and he was using the crowd, which I haven't seen him do much of before - very well done.

And Dan? I was concerned he'd be nervous, because once James had won all the pressure for the tie was on his shoulders, but as he walked out with Leon he was laughing and looking incredibly relaxed. He played superbly - some of the shots he was coming up with were genuinely awesome - I don't think I've ever yelled as loudly in my life - and it looked all the way through like he just knew he was going to do it.

Huge congratulations to Team GB - they seriously earned their stripes this weekend, and did the whole country proud. Superb performance, and it was a real privilege to be there in person to see it!

 :cheer:

To the rest of the forum group we shared this weekend with - thank you so much for your company - winning the tie was fantastic - sharing it with you all made it even better!

:thanks:

I'm still recovering from an excellent DC weekend. I was sorry to miss the winning match from Dan as I had to catch a train & plane back home.:crying:

The forum group were great & very friendly & helpful. Sally did a great job as always in organizing which made things flow smoothly. Many thanks.:thanks::flowers:

One of the highlights was that the 2 teams were staying at the hotel we were in. The sight of all these fit young men at breakfast put a spring in our step--just ask Caro & Gill!!:big grin:
Supergran missed a trick there.:phew: Missed Maureen a lot- I got
home reasonably sober:wino::wino:It was mentioned that my partner in crime wasn't there--Don't know who they were talking about!!!:shelebrate:

Hello peeps, just thought I'd drop in with a quick post.

Had the most amazing time over the weekend, without doubt the best DC weekend I've ever had. That was part down to the tennis, part down to the hotel (still amazed Colin came over and spoke to me every morning and even gave me a fist pump in Saturday), but it was just as much down to you guys. It's a fantastic group and there's great banter to be had. There were a few people missing which was a shame but everything went so well (apart from Friday night perhaps haha)

Cannot wait until September, I'll be in attendance (unless it's Japan away that is). So lucky I've found something that gives me so much enjoyment constantly (footie changes game by game ;) ).

Thanks again everyone

Back home!
SO enjoyed last weekend. Great tennis - & a fantastic win! Congrats to all involved with Team GB.
Also - thanks so much to everyone on the forum who helped to make the stay in Coventry so much fun.
A special thank you for all the lifts - & to Dave & Fiona who collected me from the station. Thanks too, Jeannie for sharing the Sunday taxi ( look fwd to seeing you in Edinburgh).
Sally - you were a star, as always. You do SO much work behind the scenes. Thank You.... & an extra thank you for the lovely puddings. Yum!
Great to chat with some new faces too - & to chat more with some familiar faces...
Thank You, All. Jx

ps Think those of us who can't make it to Croatia in September should meet up in the UK- somewhere central, where there is a large -screen TV & a live-stream of the tie- to jointly cheer our lads on!??

That's a BRILLIANT idea even though I won't be able to make it :crying:. In fact during the Six Nations rugby a group of our villagers who'd decided Paris was too expensive to go to for the Wales v France match, went to Toulouse and had a fab time!

Well, we know now that there is to be live-streaming of all ties.
Just need to locate the appropriate "stream" - & screen! :-)

That would be a big ask for Sally ..... do we have any travel agents on the forum?! I guess also that people would want to fly from lots of different places .... but hotel and tickets organised all together would be good ;)

Most folk interested are firstly waiting to see if the LTA will organise a package,as they used to do them for away ties in the past. A few of us have contacted them and hopefully we should have an idea shortly after the venue is chosen.
