View Full Version : Bubble Gap 2012 - Shanghai: Deadline Sun 7th Oct - 9am UK time

How are you all doing? Everyone recovered from the celebrations? Still celebrating? :shelebrate: I don't blame you!
Unfortunately we have to move on though as there's still a few weeks left on the tennis calender and a small matter of determining who the Bubble Gap Champion will be. The top 10 are all in with a good chance to claim the trophy and this penultimate race in Shanghai will be crucial for them.

Rules and leaderboard are posted here (http://www.andymurrayfanforum.com/forums/showthread.php?538-Bubble-Gap-Championship-2012) (rondun has updated it with US Open results). The aim of this competition is to guess the bubble gap after Shanghai. The current race rankings are as follows:

http://imageshack.us/a/img32/6484/racepreshanghai.png

The current bubble gap is 4190. That's Andy's score (6910) – Tipsarevic's score (2720) = 4190.

There are 2 500 events running this week, Tokyo and Beijing. Green players are in Tokyo and red players are in Beijing.

The highest possible bubble gap is 5180. That's Andy winning Shanghai, Tipsy losing in his 1st match and no-one overtaking him.
The smallest (mathematical) bubble gap is 3415. That's Andy losing his 1st match, Tipsy winning Shanghai and Tsonga the finalist.

So in summary, your guess is between 3415 and 5180. The better you think Andy will do the higher your guess.
Remember that you can't guess the same number as someone else and once you've posted your guess you can't change it.

Ranking points on offer for Shanghai are:

R1: 10
R2: 45
R3: 90
QF: 180
SF: 360
F: 600
W: 1000

Good luck to all who take part and may the best driver win! :trophy:

Deadline: Sunday 7th October, 9.00am UK time

Isn't the highest possible bubble gap more than 5090 if Andy progresses further in Tokyo?

Yes, but generally when I give the highest/lowest BG it's based on current results. I try to update it daily as more matches are played. Admittedly, I should have explained what the BG could be if Andy wins Tokyo so I'll add that in. Thanks.

Andy lost against Raonic so the BG can't change anymore this week. Not much time left as play starts early Sunday morning. I'll update the deadline once the OOP for tomorrow comes out.

OOP had been released and the 1st main draw match is the 2nd match on Stadium between Verdasco and Soeda. That match won't start before 4.00pm there so the deadline for entries is now 9.00am UK time.

Could a mod who has time change the thread title to reflect this, thanks in advance. :thanks:

Seriously bending the rules here but I'm going to take your word for it. 2 matches passed when you posted - Verdasco/Soeda and Harrison/Kohly. Verdasco is outside the top 20 and Kohly is just inside it so no majorly important matches happened. If a mob appears to protest you'll have no-one but young Bernie to protect you. ;)

Also I've come down with a cold over the weekend. It's not too bad but it means that I may be a bit slower/less frequent on updates. Feel free to add your own commentry. :)

Only 14 slightly hungover drivers make it all the way to Shanghai (Well it was one heck of a party). Newcomer rainy days tags along on the assumption that the rest of them were travelling to their next party location (we weren't?).

Sluggishly onto qualifying, VamosVixs tops the leaderboard this time round to start in pole position followed by Manaus who hopes to keep his top 10 finish streak of 5 going.
Championship contender JAMES4578 and rondun start on the next row.
2011 champion Genbrit and hfwardhouse are on the 3rd lane, championship contender DaveArneRiise and pabbers on the 4th and the back of the top 10 is filled by Lizzim and rainy days.

No rush to start the race, I think we all need some coffee first. :cuppa:

It takes a while before the drivers recover from their hangover but the race finally gets underway. Not everyone is quite awake though - VamosVixs is still feeling the effects of all the celebrations whilst Manaus and JAMES4578 look a bit groggy. Genbrit and hfwardhouse take advantage of this and push forward to the front.
Meanwhile the back racers are completely out of it and are downing non-alchoholic beverages in an attempt to rouse themselves. Seems a bit late for that though as the race enters it's final stages.

(Charts have been updated with today's results. Apologies for the delay, been ill the last week but feeling better now)

Unfortunately the back racers aren't able to make a final charge in the last few laps and the rest of the race ends rather calmly. Genbrit crosses the finish line first to get her first pole finish of the year, followed by hfwardhouse and rondun.

Congratulations to Genbrit, hfwardhouse and rondun. :cheer: Shame Andy wasn't able to take the title but there'll be more opportunities. :) Only 1 race to go in Paris to decide who the 2012 champion will be. See you in a few weeks and don't you dare miss it. ;)
