Woohoo - Andy wins 6-4 6-4. Closing the roof didn't save Fed this time.

Don't know what we were worrying about, that was a class game from Andy to finish Fed off. A few things could have easily gone through his mind but Andy was tough when it mattered. Well done Muzzah!:clap::clap:

SPEECHLESS!!!!!!!!!! WOW!!!!!!! :worship:

Had predicted a loss, partly out of anti-jinxing policy but also because I thought Andy wasn't very well. Am delighted to be proved WRONG!!! :cheer:

They were discussing why Fed feels the way he does about Andy (yes they actually said there's something he doesn't like about him) and Peter Fleming was musing that Fed gets emotional when playing Andy because of this dislike and that's what makes him vulnerable. Well I'm not surprised he doesn't like Andy because when playing like that, Andy makes Fed look distinctly average (not even!).

Sorry if that's already been said - was watching most of the match on record till the rain delay so haven't been able to read this thread yet.

That was brilliant. So impressed with Andy today. He was calm, composed and served the match out so well after all that kerfuffle. I think the hour without Fed winning a game during the Olympic final has made a difference - in the minds of both players. Great stuff. Roll on tomorrow and up another gear to beat Nole.

Fantastic win! Andy was so strong in his return game the whole match, troubling Fed on nearly every service game. It's not often that Fed looks rattled when he plays his matches, even against Novak he normally stays calm. But against Andy you can see all the tension in his face. I think it's the fact that Andy can play with variety that troubles him so much - he can't get a predictable rhythm from the baseline against him and doesn't know what shot is coming next. Novak has the same difficulties against Andy (and hopefully will again tomorrow).

I must admit I interpreted that conversation a little differently - I thought what Fleming meant was that there was something about Andy's game or the way he plays that Fed didn't like or struggled to deal with, rather than personal dislike...

Do you think he meant dislike in a personal sense...?

I agree Fed lets emotion get to him when playing Andy - I've always thought Andy gets in his head in a way other players don't, but I've always thought that was because of how he plays rather than anything personal...

So So so proud of you Andy. Those service returns were unbelievable - well, at least Fed c ould not believe them !! :rolling:

Maybe that sports psychiatrist has done more than we realise - this new maturity is a WOW to behold. There was a time when Andy would have come out full of nerves and lost that service.
Well - its given Fed something to chew on.....and I bet Djoko is doing some thinking too :cheer:

I certainly got that impression. I think it goes back to the 'King of the Courts' a few years back being challenged by the young upstart. I can see Milos Raonic giving out the same sort of vibes that might put some of the top players backs up

Brilliant Andy, never in doubt after the first game.:clap::clap:

Andy really does get on Federer's wick. Notice the sarcastic acknowledgement of Andy's apology for the net cord and the suggestion by Federer that the ball touched Andy when he fired a forehand at him and as for the first "rain delay", it just served to make Federer look like an idiot, it was clear to everyone what he was doing.

Think Andy's away to talk to the mirror again? It worked last time ;)

I was thinking that whilst waiting and didn't feel too worried by the delay because of that. I'm also glad in a way that Fed's first rain delay tactic didn't work and that then Andy won under the roof - Fed will wonder what on earth he can do to win after this!!! That sports psychologist deserves a medal IMHO - what a difference in Andy. And how long have we all been telling him it's what he needed and that his problem lay between his ears??!!

No I think the comments relate to Andy's game but that's not what was said exactly I don't think - although I have to confess to a lot of ff when watching a recording, so I may have missed the important words. That said, I don't think there's any love lost towards Andy and that's probably rubbed off from the dislike of playing him.

That was great to watch wasn't it?

Andy just set out to win it and stuck at it. Steady at times, stunning shots when needed.

He certainly showed Roger Roofgate what was what in that match - as if the Swiss needed reminding how great a player Andy is. He looked fed up from the start and is definitely losing his invincible status. Those 3 DF's were so surprising from him and I am sure it sent a message to Andy about how nervy Roger was.

Hope Andy can play Nole tomorrow as he did at the Olympics. 2 sets, no messing.

Agree 100%.

Andy has the ability to tie his opponents up into knots, and befuddle them - when he has the confidence to do so.

I hope that he continues to do this. It is a breath of fresh air compared with many of the other players on the tour.

Great match Andy. Very well played despite Feds delaying tactics. Definitely Andy is playing with more (well deserved) confidence now and he has a good chance of beating Nole tomorrow.

great game, i watched on sky on laptop so not posting here during it.
been reading yr posts, thanking lots, my take on the tennis is that andy set his stall out from the off, broke fedX first game, tho cd not consolidate. and then broke fedX twice, once in each set, from 40-0 on fedX serve. that must really rattle fedX.
he does so get into fedX head, the 3 dfs in one game were totally the result of andy putting pressure on fedX, by his stance on court, his advancing before the serve etc fedX so fears the return he does not know where to play his serve to.
andy looked confident, never rattled, even after those 6 ad points on fedX serve, he just broke him next game! and what fun to see fedX bashing his racket. and the fedX inspired rain delay, and then the lengthy wait to serve for it, nae bother, just came back, simple knockup, and won just like that.
the game i saw was so confident, rather different from many of yr posts - why? psychologist? or just his Confidence after winning a GS?
and andy knows fedX can never again make his jibe that andy can win a 3 set game but not a 5 set.

Just got in. Dad the chauffeur duties done for the day. So so pleased he served it out after what had happened earlier.

I think Fed is rattled by Andy when Andy serves well because Fed's game is based on his serving more than his returning (you could argue it is the other way round with Andy - certainly if you look at the serving v. returning stats for the top players) and Andy and Novak are definitely the two best returners at the moment, so it is harder for him to break. Plus there might be something in the "young kid started beating me instead of showing me respect early in his career".
And all the natural defences a no. 1 has have gone "beat him in three, beat him in five, beat him on hard courts" and today beat him after rain and the roof!

Put simply, Andy respects and is wary of the tennis level Roger can play at, but fancies his changes of beating him more than ever now. And Roger knows that!

Wonder who they will support tomorrow? Their 2-time champion going for a threepeat? Or the one who DIDN'T put out their God?

So pleased to hear that Andy won - I got home earlier and made a bee-line for the computer, but my husband (who's not really interested in tennis) said "he won" - I was rather taken aback that he even knew Andy was playing!!

Will try and read the thread, but pages take an age to load and sometimes I give up!

Great stuff Andy :cheer::cheer:

Just finished watching, really great to see him in so much control of his game right now, even if he is a little tired and under the weather.

The control he now has, or should I say, the belief he now has to hammer his forehand is incredible. Players must be terrified by that right now. He's no longer a counter punching nightmare, he can do what he likes, theres nowhere for you to hide.

Hoping he can take the win tomorrow, but if Djoko is relentless, perhaps Andy will buckle first, perhaps. It certainly will be a close one again.

Regarding confidence..........a bit of both I think. The psychologist to maybe push him over the winning line in the GS and then the confidence that comes from that.

I'm surprised Fed hasn't reminded everyone of his comment a few years back that Andy needed to be more aggressive.......he'll probably want to charge him for the coaching and put the recent wins down to his own expert advice ;)
