SimonandSchuster (http://books.simonandschuster.co.uk/Andy-Murray-Champion/To-Be-Announced/9781471126529) - Andy Murray: Champion - The Full Extraordinary Story
Book by Mark Hodgkinson

Description
When Andy Murray finally overcame Novak Djokovic in a five-set thriller to secure the 2012 US Open, it was a dream fulfilled for the man from Dunblane. After four previous defeats in Grand Slam finals, Murray had finally achieved what no British man had managed since the 1930s. But the story of how he got there was just as compelling as the final itself, with as many twists and turns along the way. Writer Mark Hodgkinson has been covering that story since the start - he was actually the first person to interview Murray for a national newspaper back in 2004, and has worked closely with Judy Murray in the past.
In Andy Murray: Champion, Hodgkinson explains how Murray first emerged as a tennis player of true quality, and how his rivalry with his brother Jamie spurred him on. He looks at the close relationship Murray has with his mother, and the various coaches who haved worked with him to assess their influence on his game. In a hugely competitive era of tennis, with Federer, Nadal and Djokovic all counted to be among the greatest tennis players of all time, Murray has earned the right to be ranked alongside them all - and this book explains how and why he has done so, becoming a true national sporting icon in the process.

Sports Illustrated have provided thoughts on what they hope will be in the book. It's a little tongue-in-cheek, to put it mildly.

It's fair comment - what is there that's left to be said ? What is there that his fans dont know ?
Having said that - the book is top of my christmas list in capital letters

The author of "Andy Murray Champion" will shortly be interviewed on talksport.

http://www.talksport.co.uk/radio/how-to-listen

What an unimpressive individual Mark Hogkinson is, I won't be rushing to buy his book. It is an unauthorised biography but he's heard from Andy's management that he's "aware" of the book. In the interview he was asked about "wearing the Paraguay shirt" incident and he didn't even correct the interviewer to say that never happened also comments about Andy not helping himself by the the way he comes across in interviews. Hodgkinson is a chancer making cash from Andy's success.

Bardot and J, I'm sorry you reached that conclusion while listening to the interview on talkSport. You're right that I should have corrected the interviewer regarding the story about the Paraguay shirt. As I have made very clear in the book, that allegation is completely untrue. Mark

Welcome to the forum Mark

I think the Paraguay shirt thing was dismissed well in the book. I really enjoyed reading it. Liked how each section was split into the sections for each match of USO and it was different to the autobiography! Great stuff about Judy. I have to admit I cried a bit at the end remembering the feelings of the USO. I wish there had been a bit more about Olympics but just me

I have not had a chance to buy and read the book yet, but I am looking forward to reading it at some point.

However, I have always enjoyed reading your newspaper articles in the Telegraph, Tennis Space etc, Mark, and I also appreciate that you were one of the few journalists who used to be positive about Andy in the early days when much of the press was against Andy.

In fact we often post links on the forum to your articles.

Markhi mark welcome to the forum, very good off you to set that straight, just its such a big issue that has pretty much created the negative perception of Andy

I enjoyed the book, and there was plenty that Mark could say that Andy wouldn't have put in a new autobiography e.g. the agents and money side of things. I did get a bit annoyed by Andy being called "Murray" rather than "Andy" throughout, unless there was a need to distinguish him from Judy or Jamie. He even calls Kim just "Sears" - all a bit public school! It's fine to talk about matches being "Murray v Federer" etc, but in a book that shows obvious close knowledge of Andy and his career, it seems a bit impersonal to always refer to "Murray".
