View Full Version : AWESOME ANDY - Champion in Bangkok 2011, 6'2, 6'0

Sallydaisy
01-10-2011, 12:11
Andy is through to the Final of the Bangkok tournament - the first time since 2005 when, as an upcoming 18yr old WR#109 he lost to Roger Federer WR#1.

His opponent is Donald Young, who earlier today beat Gael Monfils in a tie-break for the 3rd set, and against whom Andy has a 1-1 H2H. (http://www.atpworldtour.com/Players/Head-To-Head.aspx?pId=MC10&oId=Y124)

Andy lost to Young in R1 of the Indian Wells Masters earlier this year - not long after losing his 2nd AO Final.
He avenged that defeat in some style at the USO in August with a 6-2, 6-3, 6-3 win over the American.

The match is on Sunday 2nd October - 9am UK time.

No lie-ins but a sofa might be useful.

Unfortunately I'll miss it as I'll be at church. Good luck Andy!

Any chance this is going to be on the telly? It certainly doesn't look like it as not in the listings. However, we all should be able to catch a stream if it's a suitable time. Young can be tough of course but Andy must be favoured to take another title! Glad to be on the new forum!

Hey all. Long time. Couldn't register with my former username as it has to be longer than 3 characters. I miss all of you. I've been studying a lot lately.

Hope Andy can get the title tomorrow!

Thanks to all who worked on setting up the new forum. It's great to have it back! :)

Blimey, we are back in business!

I'd pick Andy in two, just can't see Donald winning this one.

01-10-2011, 17:23
Im a bit nervous about this one, i'm gonna be honest! But in saying that, he's looked so relaxed on court all week and not let much phase him, so hopefully if he keeps in the zone then he can pull it off. COME ON ANDY!

davech
01-10-2011, 17:28
I reckon Andy will beat Donald pretty comfortably. :sofa:

JAMES4578
01-10-2011, 17:30
He did that at the Us Open of course but every match is different and we know Donald can be tricky on his day. Still in a final Andy must be the clear favourite, go Muzzah!

Of course Andy can win this match. I see that Young has lost more matches than he has won this year. --win/loss 21/22. Food for thought!
Many thanks for setting up this site & it's wonderful to have the Thanks button back

I am sure Andy will expect Young to come out guns blazing. Might be one of those matches where Andy has to get inside his head.
Just needs Andy to focus hard for two good sets out of a maximum of three! C'mon Andy!

Hi Lynda - I hope people won't get confused with a Lynda and a Linda on here! Many years ago, when I joined the original forum shortly after it was set up, I called myself Granny. Then someone joined called, I think, Granafan (or something very like that). and everyone got us totally confused! So I reverted to my real name of Linda and she reverted to her real name of Pam :big grin:

I won't be able to see the match either, as I'll be in church - but I have complete confidence in Andy! :big grin:

Pam

If Andy can keep up the consistency he has shown so far this week he should win this. I may be around to watch it - not sure yet.

HenFan
01-10-2011, 20:13
I've a strong suspicion Andy will take this - Young is having a great year and of course beat an out-of-sorts Andy earlier this year, but if Andy plays anywhere near his best I'd be shocked if he lost. Be great for him to get another title in the bag ahead of the final two Masters series and the World Tour Finals! :)

Take care... :)

Andy is at such a level now where it would be a big shock for him not to stroll through and take a 250 title like this.. If he concentrates tomorrow and keeps Young frustrated i think a win in 2 sets within 80 minutes... I really hope Andy has a great Asian swing and eats up the ranking ground on Fedward.. massive thank you to everyone who's worked to get the forum back!.. x

Very professional Andy! Seeing some of the Youtube clips of meeting the Thai PM, having to eat his food while being (over)interviewed, Andy has been very ambassadorial this week.
Well done on and off the court this week Andy!

Awww Andy was nice about Donald. Feel a tad sorry for the American esp. when he said he didn't get into Tokyo coz he missed the qualies. Anyway, I'm off to bedski.

Well done Andy! :trophy: Great to see him win another title. Very professional and focused performance today.

Tough for Donald, it's never easy in your first final - and facing one of the top 4 is the toughest it gets.

He got taken over to the side by an official, then he and the official bowed, and Andy had to walk forwards by himself and pick the trophy up off what looked more like a shrine than anything else - with a photo on top of some guy in imilitary uniform!

It was a lengthy cermony with the doubles at the same time too but good to them centre stage too. Think rthey expected the final to last a bit longer so took a while to get going! Anyway was delightful and seemed very pleased with the victory, good to see him appreciated too! Though I thought it was a bit odd he had to pick up the trophy himself! unfortunately though I was on livescorehunter and the audio when when Andy and Donald were speaking wasn't that great.

Only had 5 periods in school today and expected to catch a bit of the final but it was so straight-forward and I came just a bit late. Anyway, I'm so glad Andy won and did it comfortably. I'm over the moon. Hope I can catch a re-run later. Well done braveheart! :)

If, like me, you are anxious to see any pictures of Andy with the trophy there is one on the front page of the old forum Andymurray.com.
The only one I've seen so far - he has a rather dejected looking Donald with him.

If anyone can come up with some video, post match interviews or other pics- just let us know...pleeeese

There's a nice pic on the BBC sport page (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tennis/15142359.stm) reporting on the match too ....

I was delighted to come home to the news of Andy's win - he was 4-0 up in the first when I left but as we all know with Andy, that isn't always how it carries on  No Murraycoaster today - way to go Andy :trophy:

Shame I couldn't watch this live. Sounds as though it was an Andy Master Class. James4578 kept me updated with the scores whilst I was travelling to Liskeard and back which saved my sanity. The match was so quick that it was all over before we got back home! Well done Andy the gap is closing!!
