View Full Version : WORLD TOUR FINALS, GROUP A: RR5 - Andy's through to the Semi's after a 6'2, 7'6 win over Tsonga'
Sallydaisy

All to play for .....
Andy needs to win this match, preferably in 2 straight sets, to seal his place in the Semi's.
He has a very positive 6'1 H2H (http://www.atpworldtour.com/Players/Head-To-Head.aspx?pId=MC10&oId=T786) v Jo-Willy and needs to draw on all that experience to kick the Frenchman into touch on Friday in his final Round Robin match.
Jo has yet to post a win and we have to hope he doesn't beat Andy here!
At the moment NONE of the Group A players is guaranteed a place in the Semi's.
If Berdych beats Nole and Andy beats Jo there will be 3 players tied on 2W/1L so the count-back system would be utilised. More discussion about this to be found on this thread. (http://www.andymurrayfanforum.com/forums/showthread.php?1531-BARCLAYS-ATP-WORLD-TOUR-FINAL-who-will-reach-the-Semi-s)
If Berdych v Djokovic is the day match on Friday Andy will know what he has to do to secure his place in the Semi-Final.
It'll be on his racquet .....

I wish I could watch the evening session live but can't! Will be biting nails all day! Just hope Novak wins in straights to make life easier for Andy!
Hope if Andy reached the semis his is an afternoon match!
I won't be able to watch either, as it's church choir practice. However it's much better for Andy that it's the evening match! I'll be peeping at livescore on my phone...
Though just realised that if Andy makes it to the semis to play federer and federer plays evening on Saturday they may make that semi an evening match and I will be gutted as I only have afternoon semis :( argh!

Couldn't you watch afternoon matches on a stream too.
Yes, and I have been doing just that. Not the most convenient but at least I got Jason and Robbie.
Unfortunately, the Beeb is more convenient so the only option with that is to have the sound off if Bouncy and Barry are on.
I have been watching on Sky and putting up with the adverts.

Me too. So glad andy has the night match. If Novak wins in 2 all the pressure will be off
Good luck Andy, it will be Radio 5live for me, not got Sky and if anyone please can post a livestream. Ta.

My guess is they will give Fed the afternoon slot on Saturday to allow him the longest time possible before the semis.
Best of luck for Andy tomorrow. :luckyfourleafclover:

Why couldnt the bbc have done a deal to show Andy's matches rather than the afternoon ones. This is the real event, right here. With the round robin format, It generally goes down to the lat match & I'm sat squinting at a tiny windown from William Hill betting site.

In Paris, Tsonga would've been booed for his first set performance. As you say the English or more specifically London crowd is indeed unique. Only at the Olympics did Andy receive full and unreserved support and that crowd is never going to be at Wimbledon again.

London crowd? People are there from every corner of the British Isles as they are at Wimbledon. They are not real Andy fans as I know having been amongst them at Wimbledon and the 02. They look at you strangely and even laugh at you when you give vent to loud vocal support. If only every true Andy fan could be there then the difference would be heard.
AND from all over Europe, the USA and Canada, Australia and New Zealand, Japan. . . from all over the world. Obviously the majority are British, but a very large minority are not.
Well hope one day Im one of them and I'll scream my head off for Andy !!!!
Well done Andy! Job well done despite the little blip! Loved that he ended the match with a bang!

For some reason towards the end of the final set my computer wouldn't let me get anywhere in the forum. No problem at other sites, though. Anyway, let me add my belated congratulations to Andy. Well done, and wish you all the best for the semis and final.

Yes I had that problem too! But was nice to see Andy close it out in straights :)
Does anyone else think that Andy deliberately took the foot off the gas in the second set in order to give the crowd some sort of spectacle and negate the possibility of there having to be an exhibition match? I didn't think about it at the time but I just watched the match through again and think this may well have been the case. I got the feeling Andy knew he could finish it any time he pleased.

Having watched the match, I think this might have been the case Alis, I think Andy knew he could win in 2 sets, I think the Tie Break proved that, I wondered what JWT said to Andy at the net at the end of the match

Andy pretty much confirms it in his interview on the tennistv site. Said that once he knew he had qualified, he relaxed a bit, and that it was obvious the crowd wanted more tennis as the doubles had been very short and his own first set only just over 20 minutes.
Great win by Andy! Was able to catch the match shortly after the 1st set but was having problems getting access to the forums for some reason. Looking forward to his semi on Sunday.
