Andy v Roger ... for the 5th time this year.

Federer won the titles in Dubai and at Wimbledon.
Andy beat Roger to the Olympic Gold Medal and defeated him in the Semi-Final of the Shanghai Masters a few weeks ago.

Andy leads their H2H (http://www.atpworldtour.com/Players/Head-To-Head.aspx?pId=MC10&oId=F324) 10-8.

Can he make it 11-8 tomorrow and reach the Final of the ATP year end event in London.
I hope so!

So, we've got a repeat of the Olympics matches but moved East and indoors!!!

In the Olympics Andy beat Fed in the Final and Nole beat Juan to the Bronze medal.
We'll be in for some cracking matches tomorrow that's for sure .......

Yes.
We're way quicker than the ATP site ............ as are the accredited journalists on twitter.
;)

Piers Newbery ‏@piersnewbery (https://twitter.com/piersnewbery) Sunday singles schedule: Djokovic v Del Potro at 2.15pm (BBC TV/web/radio),
Murray v Federer at 7.45pm (web text/radio).

Hmm, suppose the beeb are showing the afternoon match so its Uncle Bill & his tiny screen for me. On the plus side, I will be uninteruppted as MiniMoo will be in bed & Mr Moo at work.

Looking forward to it (I think.... just a ickle bit nervous too!)

;)Thanks..stopped watching tennis to watch Festival of Remembrance. This suits me as we go to the Remembrance Service in town then for refreshments. And later we always go for lunch so I'm very happy with the schedule.

Madeline
10-11-2012, 21:53
Not only will I not be able to watch it on the TV because the Beeb don't show the evening semi, but if Andy does win he will be at a disadvantage against the other finalist who will have had a few hours more rest. (Of course that would also apply to Fed if he wins, but strangely I'm not too bothered about that. . .)

Those Fed fans are so very noisy - you ll have to get a chant going Xenon.
Somehow I think Andy has that same look in his eye that he had when he wanted that Olympic medal!
He wants this badly....all fingers and toes crossed for you Andy- play like the first set on Tuesday and no one can live with

All the best to you today Andy! Break the hearts of the federer fan club.

Indeed sure Andy will be fired up and won't let the Fed fans deter him in any way,he should have quite a few shouting for him too! obviously a few battles between these two throughout the years and a few disappointments but Andy has certainly got the better of Roger in the last few matches and hopefully the trend continues! Looking at their last matches Andy should come in with more confidence but it's all down to the form on the day and we know Andy can't take anything for granted. Take it to him Muzzah!

from bbc live text:

1944:
"Roger Federer has been interviewed before the semi-final. The 17-time Grand Slam champion assured the camera that he always knew that Andy Murray could join him in the Majors, because he had consistently beat Federer himself, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal outside of the year's big four events. "And at the US Open he did that by beating Novak," Federer concluded. Is it just me or was there a hint in there that the US Open win in September was slightly devalued by only having only beaten one of the 'Big Four' on his way?"

...Did some people just boo Andy off the court there?

I've got no problems with the GOAT these days, but I despise some of those fans of his.

Frustrating to see Andy get blown off the court there after starting so well. But indoors theres no conditions, and when RF finds his range and your level drops, he can go up so many gears its terrifying. Frustrating to see the match get away from him that quickly though.

Very sad to see Andy go out in the Semi's; I think he'd set his heart on winning in London this year.
Thankfully he's got 3 more shots at a 'home' Tour Final title!

Federer, for all he's 5 years older, was able to produce some of his best tennis this week in the tie-break and that almost certainly boosted his confidence to keep up the level of play. Andy didn't play at all well in the 2nd set and allowed the Fed to get into his head.

With regards to the crowd ... as with every ATP event this is OPEN to anyone who wants to watch, whatever their nationality and whoever is their favourite. A lot of people were supporting Federer long before Andy made it into the top echelons of the sport and like it or not they're entitled to support who they want.

It's fairly ridiculous to expect Barclays/ATP to vet every single ticket applicant to ensure that all 17,000 people tonight were fans of Andy Murray. That'd be impossible given the format of the event.

Also, some of the forum members there are saying the cheers are equal for Andy and Fed.
I believe them because I've been on the wrong end of BBC/Sky coverage of matches before when it seemed our team/man weren't being cheered so much only to realise it's just the way they do the broadcasting.

So, I reckon peeps needn't fret their heads so much about crowd support.
Andy got a standing ovation when he walked on court for each of his matches.

Soapbox now being tucked away.

I have to say that I thought the crowd at the O2 were disgusting tonight - I agree it's an international tournament and there will be fans of all nationalities, but you would nevertheless expect a bias in favour of Andy rather than a bias in favour of Federer - poor Andy must be thinking to himself "I win a gold medal for my country, I end a 76-year wait for a British male Grand Slam champion, what the hell do I need to do?!" Absolutely disgraceful, I'm ashamed to be British tonight!

As to the match itself, unfortunately Federer indoors is in a league of his own, it shows by his results at this tournament - I thought Andy played a blinder until he lost the first set tiebreak and then there was just no way back for him, I thought his level went down as Fed's level went up. A disappointing end to the year, but at the end of the day I think the history books will look back and remember the winner of the Olympic gold and US Open more than they'll remember the winner of this tournament (even though this is right up there). Hope Andy enjoys his off-season and can come back to grab the Australian Open, a title that I think he richly deserves! :)

We know andy is pretty thick skinned he has had to be over the last few years..he'll be able to put this into perspective i think...unfortantely the Olympic crowd only supported andy for one reason and that was to add to the gold medal tally...their allegiance to him started and finished there. when the wimbledon crowd were with fed and he lost..it only made him stronger heads up peeps!

I thought Andy looked absolutely drained tonight and I think that may have been partly due to his close, and ultimately losing, encounter with Novak earlier in the week. After losing the tiebreak he seemed to have nothing left in the tank.

As for the crowd, I too had the mute button on as I could see what was happening. I just don't get the whole Roger-is-God scenario at all and as HenFan says, so much for (lack of) British support. I really hope Novak takes the title now.

No offence taken - however, I have to respectfully disagree with you and say I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a British player to get home crowd support when playing in Britain. I completely agree that Federer is a legend of the game and I wouldn't expect him not to have fans in the crowd, particularly at an event that is, as has correctly been stated, open to all nationalities and which people from all over the world will travel to. And yes, I could expect a pro-Federer bias if they were playing a tournament in a "neutral" country (by which I mean, any country that wasn't Britain or Switzerland) - but to hear the British no.1 being loudly BOOED at a tournament in his home country? I couldn't believe it when that happened and I still can't.

At one point Andy was close to a double break in the first and giving Roger a drubbing which might have had "match which marks changing of the guard" headlines.

A couple of points later, he wasn't and the rest was mostly Roger's match.

Fine margins.

Andy played better for the first part of this match, Roger better for the second half.

Bit gutted by the way match turned as Andy started in confident fashion and Fed took a little while to find his feet but he did turn it on once given the chance. As others have said serve just wasn't consistent ough and as the match developed he erred too often. Thought that the 2nd set was disappointing as Andy needed to try and keep the pressure on. Know there would have some from overrseas but it looked like Andy didn't have the support you would expect! It could be the Fed fans were very loud of course and we didn't get the full effect on TV. of course I know Andy has his detractors, including some scots.

Obviously a very successful year for Andy nonetheless with the slam and the Olympics win, sure more big titles can come his way!

Has the location for the Davis Cup tie against Russia been decided? If not it should return to Braehead. Guaranteed unreserved support for Andy.......if he plays. ;)

Well it's what I call support. Cheer your man more when he's behind and don't stop till he's back up there. Simple.

Booing in any shape or form at a sporting venue is just totally unacceptable in my view. The fact that our home grown champion was booed from the court after a stellar season is absolutely disgusting.

:big grin: Maybe Andy should announce now he's not playing so it can be held in "Middle England". ;)

Wow! Cannot believe he lost that! A break up in the first and 40-15 up in the game where he got broken in the second, OUCH!!!

But very disappointed with the crowd.

However, can't complain about the year. Two major wins and final of Wimbly. I'll take that.

It's been a fantastic year for Andy and while I am a little bit disappointed he couldn't finish his amazing season with a WTF win I am more sad that it didn't feel like a home tournament for him. We all know Andy gets extra motivation from the crowd when they get behind him but sadly tonight he did not get that.

The crowd were disgraceful applauding when Andy missed a 1st serve, what was this booing about! If you did not know you would think this tournament was held in
Switzerland.

Well done Andy on a great year. The crowd in the 02 were an absolute disgrace. I give up. Watched with my son and he couldn't understand what was going on either. Well, we true fans are proud of our man. Hope he's not too disappointed and will be ready to take on all comers in 2013. Go Andy.......We love you.
