Hope they make it. Colin had to cut short his training in La Manga after just 2 days 'cos he picked up an injury so although he'll be 'rested' he'll be very short of court practice!

According to Twitter, Rafa has pulled out of Doha due to the stomach virus that kept him out of Abu Dhabi. Kooyong, Sydney & Auckland are all offering him a place. (Nothing official yet as far as I can see.)

ETA - apparently it stems from this Al Jazeera report http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10200295769702051&set=vb.179157408775482&type=2&theater Can anyone here understand what he is saying?

Wardy was beaten by Amritraj 57 64 64; tight match but James didn't start well in sets 2 and 3.
Shame he didn't make the main draw though having come so close.

DOHA - OOP for Tuesday 1st January.
http://www.atpworldtour.com/posting/2013/451/op.pdf
Jonny Marray is in action today - 4th on Court 2 around 9pm local time, 6pm UK.
He's partnering Dustin Brown but first the German/Jamaican has to play a singles match against #1 seed David Ferrer. That probably won't help but Dustin is a good competitor so hopefully the 2 can progress against Lacko/Ramos.

Dom Inglot and Treat Huey got 2013 off to a great start yesterday by beating top seeds Lindstedt/Zimonjic!

2 games all. A good match so far!

Bit disappointing tennistv is showing no ATP tournaments this week.

RoastLamb

Dusty is reminding me of Lukas Rosol vs Rafa at Wimbly. Going for his shots, nothing to lose. Scary.

Sallydaisy
01-01-2013, 17:53
Dreddy's problem is that he's not consistent and if he gets too confident he overhits his shots.
If he could learn to tame some of the wilder stuff or make it work more effectively he'd really be a thread.

They've got a problem on the court - a hole in the hitting zone area.
Play is stopped with Dreddy 15-30 on his serve.

RoastLamb
01-01-2013, 17:53
Oops play stops coz there's a hole behind the baseline. Too funny. How on earth are they going to repair that?

Linda
01-01-2013, 17:58
I can't imagine they can get it repaired in less than a few hours!

- oh, they're now saying 15-20 minutes

Great start for Jonny and Dreddy. They won 2 Challengers and reached 2 Challenger Finals in the first 4 months of 2012 so they're used to playing together.

So are they a permanent team? Would be fun to see them at Wimbly together.

Sallydaisy

So are they a permanent team? Would be fun to see them at Wimbly together.
No. Jonny Marray has plans to play with Andre Sa next week and for the Oz Open and perhaps beyond that if they can 'gel' on court and off it. Sa and his wife have just had a new baby so he wanted this first week of the season with his family before going on 'tour' for several weeks. The Brazilian is higher ranked (than Dreddy) and Jonny said they are hoping to build on that so they can get DA's into Masters events.

Next up for Jonny/Dreddy in the Quarter-Final, are Youzhny/Erlich - an experienced pair of tennis players although they're not exactly a doubles 'team'.
The match is later today at approx 19.00hrs in Doha, 16.00 UK time.

Best of luck lads - you can beat those two!!!

Sadly, Jonny and Dreddy (aka the Milk Chocolates) lost to Knowle/Polasek 5'7, 7'6, 6'10.

Not a great start in Chennai for new partnership Bhupathi(IND, #11)/Nestor(CAN,#5).
They lost to Raven Klaasen(RSA,#73)/Nick Monroe(USA,#79) who won 6'4, 7'5.
Bopanna and Ram lost to Paire/Wawrinka.

Everyone's a bit rusty after the Christmas/New Year break it seems.

Pretty amazed that Davy beat Ferrer so easily today 6-2, 6-3 but he really was on song and had the intensity back. He will play Gasquet in the final, hopefully that will be a good match.

Linda

Quite worrying that Ferru lost so badly. Wish I'd seen it, to know whether Davy was playing really well or Ferru was playing badly.

The final is just about to start on Eurosport. But I'd wait until switching it on as Andrew Castle is there analysing their previous matches.

Sallydaisy
05-01-2013, 16:55
Quite a battle in the Doha Final. Davy romped away with the first set 6'3 and had a 4-2 lead in the 2nd but Gasquet held serve, broke and it ended up in a tie-breaker which Ritchie has just won 7'6(4).

Into a 3rd set we go. The Frenchman leads their H2H 3-2.
Wonder if his comparative youth/energy and continuing to be on the tour will now be a factor. Davydenko has missed a lot of matches over the last couple of years what with injuries, getting married, first child etc so he's probably going to feel it over 3 sets - and he's 5 years older than Gasquet.

JAMES4578
05-01-2013, 17:01
Indeed Davy seemed to be strolling to victory as Gasquet didn't seem to have many answers to his powerful hitting but Richie got an opening and certainly in with a chance now.

Linda
