Seppi beats Cilic.
Well! Chardy and Seppi go through! I wonder how many people predicted that?

Great call from twitter so many of you called Seppi over Marin County Cilic, who would have thought Seppi vs Chardonnay Chardy for last 8

Alexandra Willis @alex_willis (https://twitter.com/alex_willis) Bigger cheer for Federer than Tomic. In Australia. #ausopen (https://twitter.com/search?q=%23ausopen&src=hash)
matt fitzgerald @tennisfitz (https://twitter.com/tennisfitz) A break to start for Fed. Umm, yeah...
Brad Gilbert @bgtennisnation (https://twitter.com/bgtennisnation) So much for weekend at Bernie not dropping serv and ony facing 1break point this tourney
Neil Harman @NeilHarmanTimes (https://twitter.com/NeilHarmanTimes) I really do like The Fed's lavender top (I shouldn't say too much about the pink laces)
Federer broke Tomic in the opening game; it's gone with serve.
Fed now *2-1.

Raonic takes the first set from Kohli 7'6(4).
Sallydaisy
19-01-2013, 08:46
Feddykins takes the first set 6'4.
I'm not watching it but I wonder how the Australian crowd is taking it?
After all, A-tomic claimed Fedex might not reach the 3rd round at all.
;)
BTW, Sarah Tomic (yep, there's another one in the works) won her first match today in the Junior Girls event.
Sallydaisy
19-01-2013, 09:26
The winner of Fedex v Tomic will play Milos Raonic in R4.
Or as Scoobs puts it:
Chris P @scoobschris (https://twitter.com/scoobschris) When Sampras vs Federer Wimbledon 2001 has finished on RLA,
the winner will play Raonic - he beat Kohli 76 63 64
Tomic played good in 2nd and he deserved to win :( poor him
he tomic hws ya buddy..i hope you have backed your words and beaten federer................;)
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh tomic you received ********* :grrr:
I do hope Monfils wins the next 2 sets, so this ends up as a 5 setter - so whoever wins may be a bit more tired when playing Andy.

Goodness knows who Andy will play in R4; if these guys continue he might just get a walkover!
(that's a jest BTW).
Simon leads 6'4, 6'4, 4'6, 1'2.
He can't really run 'cos he's got serious cramp in his left leg.
Monfils has a huge blister on his right hand and hand cramp too; medical timeout for a plaster.
So far neither has held serve in the 4th set but LaMonf leads 2-1 at the change of ends and will be coming out to serve next.
They should both be awarded a degree in GEMology.
Monfils has just asked for a chocolate bar.
monfils won that 6-1, simon looks so disgusted with everything, he really doesn't want to be there
Sallydaisy
19-01-2013, 12:10
"I don't think I can take much more of this" says the Aussie commie after cramp spreads to Simon's right arm.
just played an 11 minute game, bambi got the break, long long rallies, practice drills, side to side, down the line droppers and lob - simon so cramped he could not run back for the lob
I'm just waiting to hear the commies start snoring.

Monfils had the break and looked like Andy's opponent but now 2 all, could be some mileage in it,Tomic may have tested Fed in the 2nd but as expected Fed found a way through and that 3rd set was onesided, maybe Raonic will offer more resistance.
I think Monfils might manage to lose this....
Need Monfils to win to salvage my pick'em!
I need Simon to win as I had Monfils losing to Dolly. But I think I'm beyond caring now.
Need Monfils to win to salvage my pick'em!

A doubt.... in a tie break, players get an extra challenge. In a no tie break fifth set, do players get any extra challenges after 6-6? Logically they should if you think about it.
At 6-6they'll get 3 more challenges...
We're probably about to find out.

Can hardly believe what I'm seeing, Stan is totally outplaying Nole at the moment leading 6-1, 5-2 though of course we can't count Djokovic out! Surprising also that not many people on here right now.
Exactly James, my thoughts also....I have all sorts to do, but not leaving this TV......just hope Stan stays in that zone!!!!
Djoko has just broken back - don't write him off yet! I'm just watching the live scores so difficult to know how they are actually playing. Is Djoko having a nightmare or is Stan playing out of his skull?

Looks like it could well be the start of a Nole comeback, Djokovic wasn't on his best form but Stan was playing a blinder. He's definitely tightened up now and Djokovic's upped the pace.
Turning point for Noel here.....Stan has to fight back here or Noel will just run away with the match!!
mmmmmmmm I suppose that was to be expected. All to play for still but I agree with David - unlikely that Stan will win if he loses the second set having been 5-2 up.

So, Stan breaks in the first game; Nole broke back. Stan just had 2 breakpoints to get ahead but Nole defended well and now has Advantage.

Unfortunately stan fails to break again and under a bit of pressure, was so close to 2-0 too.
Oh yes, just seen the scoreline... Good job Stan! :yahoo:

4 all now, Stan had his first double but managed to save the bp.
This is so exciting to watch - fabulous stuff!!
Oh no, 40-40... come on Stan cause the upset!
Stan looks knackered now  But not as knackered as Simon looked yesterday and he still won, so there is still hope!
oh my goodness, was not expecting this much excitement from Nole v Stan. Stan has been improving quietly for a while, but this is sensational stuff. C'mon Stan (love Nole, but love an underdog more):bravo:
The whole crowd seems to be supporting Stan!

I can't wait for Federer to retire so Stan can then rightfully be Swiss no. 1, something he deserves.
5-4 to Nole. 'But c'mon Stan, keep it going. Unbelievable stuff.
5-5 - two tired wee lads!!
JAMES4578

Apparently Stan should've broken Nole at 4 all as forehand return on 4th bp was on the line but he didn't challenge (did have 1 left) Now 6-5 Nole, Stan serving to stay in it again.
I had to pop pout this morning and had no idea the match was still on when I got back, until it was 2 sets all.
Of course, if Stan wins that will be the finish of my pick'em. But I was doing really badly anyway.
Berdych must be loving this, because whoever goes through must surely find it difficult for their next match after all this energy being expended. Both players seem understandably tired. And Andy and Roger must be thinking that this is playing into their hands too...

Didn't think about the benefit for Berdych, though I'm guessing he'll still prefer to see Stan win!
I want Stan to win - if only to make Mats W eat his words - he is so biased
Still can't call the outcome of this. Guess Nole still has to be favourite, he's been here so many times. But....

7-7
Well done to Stan for still serving so well and keeping his game going despite quite a lot of cramping!!!
Nole isn't getting much chance to break - but so far he's not given Stan many chances either.
However ...
Nole serving: *0-15, 15-15, 30-15, 40-15, and holds.

Well done for another hold to 15 from Stan.
The longer this goes on, I'll have to favour Nole winning.

10-10
Sobering thought:
Ben Rothenberg @BenRothenberg (https://twitter.com/BenRothenberg) Take a second to acknowledge that the Isner-Mahut fifth set got this far...and then lasted another 119 games. Mindnumbing stuff.
10-10 - are they thinking they are Isner and Mahut? lol

Nole serving:
*0-15 loose error from Nole as he hits long
*15-15
*30-15
*40-15 Ace from Nole
And he holds for 11-10
Federer must really be loving his fellow compatriot right now
10-10 - are they thinking they are Isner and Mahut? lol
Reminds me of the Younes El Aynaoui vs Rodduck match at the Oz Open in 2003 when Rodduck won 21-19 in the 5th set.

That's that then, that was medieval! Well done Nole for triumphing and Kudos to Stan for making it the match it was.

Congrats Nole for winning, he's not a multiple Slam champion for nothing. But HUGE congrats to Stan, amazing play and you have to feel so sorry for him. As Andy fans we know the feeling only too well -your guy plays amazing, battles all the way and loses. Gutted for Stan.

Berdych has looked solid thus far, certainly has the tools to trouble Nole. Still fancy Nole to come through that however.

It's a good job he HAS got a good serve ...
However, Federer seems to be getting a bit of a read on it.
Milos serving at *4-5, first set:-
*0-15, 15-15, 15-30, 30-30, 30-40 and Fed is 1 point away from bagging this set.
Which he does ... in just 33mins and will serve first in the next set too.
Alexandra Willis @alex_willis (https://twitter.com/alex_willis) Whatever the odds, irrelevant now. Federer fistpumps calmly as he wins first set 6-4 on first set point. 14 UEs from Raonic. 1 from Federer.
Piers Newbery @piersnewbery (https://twitter.com/piersnewbery) Very nervy stuff from Raonic to give up the first set against Federer, two missed forehands a double fault and a volley in the net. RF, 6-4.

Bigger ouch - second set Fed on a tiebreaker.
Raonic is so frustrating. He played so much better than this against Murray in Tokyo, but here, like at the US Open, he just looks like a serve with a flaky mentality. His backhand looks absolutely terrible, and he's not going for his forehand at all. Weak.

Well hoped Milos would extend Fed Further but he's not the complete article yet and so both Andy and Roger yet to drop set. @Bonnie_D_Ford "Raonic just revealed didn't know if he could play til 45 min prior to match. Has inflamed metatarsal in left foot, got MRI & anesthesia." Raonic said he still thought he could compete. Not a healthy week for him. Had to sweat out a fever a few days ago

Well, that's my view, to which I'm entitled, and I'm sticking to it.
I hope playing on that injured foot hasn't made the situation worse and he takes time to let it heal properly before playing again. It's a shame that it may have affected his game today - have to admit I was expecting (and hoping for) the more ebullient version of Milos!

When it's not, we will at least know why :grrr:
I do not think Tsonga is likely to beat Roger but he could take a lot out of him and help Andy. Mats Wilander had a curious take on this last night during Andy and Simon. He said that the Simons and Ferrers and Tsongas and Berdychs need to "gang up" on the top three (+Rafa when back). One of them soften the player up in the previous round so the other stands a better chance of winning, rather than giving up too soon as they realise they will not win. A kind of enlightened self-interest and team work...
If Berdych beats Nole, he certainly has to take Stan out for dinner or something because part of the reason will be due to what Stan took out of him the previous round.
Almagro is a set and a break up against Ferrer - didn't see that coming. Come on Daveed!
Raonic was injured apparently ...
xcusessssss!!!:swingin:
Ferrer just came back to win against Almagro 6-2 in the fifth. Almagro served for the match three times and choked - it will take him a long time to recover from that! Well done Daveed for sticking in there. Errani and Vinci came from behind to beat the Williams sisters 7-5 in the third - well done to them too!
Well it's not a night match, so the apparent Federer favouritism continues...
http://www.australianopen.com/en_AU/scores/schedule/schedule15.html
I've no idea what time Andy might start but at least I should see some of it...

Milos respects Federer very much , and has said so many times . Thats a good thing imo .

He respects him but he's not in awe of him.
Wow! What a match between Nico and Ferru. I really feel for Nico just like I did for Stan. Poor guys!!! But kudos that they put up such a fight. Nico was cramping badly in that fifth set.
The women's matches were a total disappointment. Thought Makarova would stay close to Shazza. No luck. And Aga was take out in straights - sob. Altho' I like Li Na so I forgive her.
The best match of the night was the women's dubs 1/4s between Team USA and Team Italy with the latter prevailing despite being behind a few times.
I agree , respect but not " in awe "
Was so happy that the Williams got beat !!!!!!!!! :big grin:
Really hoping that Sloane can play the match of her life against Serena , but it must be very hard to play your idol

Fed has broken JWT in the first game of the opening set ...
... and a love hold puts Fed 2-0 up after 5mins of play.
Jo held for 1-2 and had 2 chances to break in the 4th game after a couple of errors from Fed. But the Swiss held on and is now 3-1 up.

Jo broke back!!! Levelled it for 3-3.
He's serving now at 4-4. Fed got a break point but hit an error to take it back to deuce.
Ad Jo.
Tsonga leads 5-4.
Not Roger Federer @PseudoFed (https://twitter.com/PseudoFed) Courtside FedBerry tweetings. Just enjoying the cool evening breeze... again #justsayin (https://twitter.com/search?q=%23justsayin&src=hash)

Tie-break, JWT serving first:
*0-1 Darn, Jo thought he'd served an Ace but on 2nd serve he hit ball into the net.
0-2*
0-3* Allez Jo, it's only 1 break of serve.
*1-3 Let's have another one please?
*2-3 Well done, now break back as you did in the first set.
2-4* Change of ends. 1 more chance Jo.
2-5* Hmmm .....
*3-5 Ace from Jo
*4-5 Great pass from Jo to hold that point. C'mon Jo!
4-6* and a set point to Federer
4-7* First set to Federer.
Roger takes the first set in 50minutes 7'6(4). He's not playing at his best but playing the key points better than Jo who has had a few chances to take this set.

No, and that is not the point. Doping is deplorable in any sport and it's a serious issue.
So, suggesting that a player is on any kind of enhancement drug is not acceptable.
Even as a joke.

all federer haters here//////:grrr:
It's and Andy Murray Forum; we all have other favourites.
Some of us like watching Federer play (I am one of them) but dislike his attitude to other players off the court.
Love game from Tsonga to lead 5-3 in the 2nd set.
all federer haters here//////:grrr:
Not so much that as wanting the best opportunity for Andy
federer playing worst possible tennis...its killing me

C'mon Jo!
5-4 up and serving for the 2nd set.
That's exactly why I don't visit Roger's forum any more - whenever anyone beats him, the fans on there are all claiming that his conqueror must be taking illegal drugs! And the mods on there don't do their job - they are allowed to get away with saying things like that. On any decent forum they would all be banned.
i better watch cricket..federer is playing worst tennis ever!:sofa:
Well done Jo:cheer::cheer::cheer:
Tsonga takes the 2nd 6-4! :cheer: :cheer:

1 set apiece.
I really hope they both play well 'cos this could be a good match; so far it isn't setting the RLA alight but this 3rd set could be a big decider.
Not Roger Federer @PseudoFed (https://twitter.com/PseudoFed) I think it's raining. Mr. Umpire, do you see the spots of rain?
Hope this doesn't turn into a typhoon like in Shanghai :(
Yay Jo! Great stuff, keep it going. Would love a long 5 sets......

Is Andy now the only player not to have dropped a set?
