Great win lads to start the New Year!!! It was very hot apparently (the Scots must really feel it ...) according to this tweet from Colin:

well done, took them an hour and a half, the match above them, booty and hanley, took just an hour. they wiped out the raygun and melzer after a 10-4 MTB.
jamie and colin are playing again tonight - first match, 11.30?
and andy is the last, after serena v sloane stephens, so might still be going when i surface at breakfast time.

match stats are very even, just one break of serve in set 2, and a losing tiebreak in set 1. but, they were second seeds, so not quite punching at their weight

Well, 2nd seeds based on rankings but they're not a natural 'pair' and haven't played together much. Neither though have Melo/Robredo but Tommy Rob is an old hand at both doubles and singles and Melo was at the top of the doubles rankings when he partnered Sa so maybe they just managed to work better together on the court. 65 points to 60 so, as you say, fairly close scoreline.

Not sure what is happening next week.
Colin/Ross are out of Sydney leaving Col without a partner.
Jamie wasn't on the Entry Lists for either Auckland or Sydney so he's free again.

I wonder if there's some shuftying going on ahead of the Commonwealth Games next year which is being hosted in Scotland.

Ha! I was just looking that up and then realised that in the deepest recesses of my ageing brain I knew that they weren't including tennis.

I think Scotland have seriously missed a trick there tbh in terms of capitalising on Andy's success.

Close match really I suppose but disappointing for Jamie/Colin though they haven't played much together. I enquired a while ago and was informed that whilst tennis was considered in the 7 optional sports (there are 10 core) the bid team was advised the calendar is very crowded and many players would find it difficult to take part. However,a mistake in my view!
