BRITISH PLAYERS IN THE DOUBLES

Britain will be well represented in the doubles draws with a number of teams ready to impress in the Melbourne heat.

Wimbledon champion Jonny Marray will be making his second Australian Open appearance when he and Brazilian partner Andre Sa line up in the first round. (Joan? Marsa?)
Colin Fleming will be pairing up with Jamie Murray in Melbourne. The duo have played in a Masters 1000 and a Davis Cup previously and will be a dangerous partnership in Australia. (Flemray or Murring?)
Dominic Inglot enjoyed a terrific 2012 season with partner Treat Conrad Huey from the Philippines. The duo lifted their first ATP World Tour title in Washington as well as reaching finals in Houston and Basel. Inglot will be making his Australian Open debut. (Ingluey)

Jamie Delgado and Ken Skupski (Delski) will be making their first appearance together at Melbourne Park after an excellent twelve months that saw them reach ATP World Tour finals in Eastbourne and Los Angeles.

In the women’s doubles, Heather Watson and Marina Erakovic (? Hevina? Watovic?) will be continuing their blossoming partnership. The British/Kiwi duo won WTA titles in Stanford and Dallas in 2012 with Watson reaching two further finals with different partners.

Laura Robson will be partnering Timea Babos also. (Robos!)

Such a shame for Colin and Jamie 'cos that was one of the most winnable R1 matches for them.
The match stats aren't great; 7 DF's whereas their opponents only hit 1 and they only took 1/6 break point chances which, given the tight scoreline, could have swung the match for them.
http://www.australianopen.com/en_AU/scores/stats/day8/3122ms.html

Not bothered about Laura's loss ; she has singles tomorrow and needs to focus on beating Kvitova.

Disappointing day for British doubles ...

Bednarek/Janowicz d Delgado/Skupski 6'0, 6'7, 6'3
Mirnyi/Tecau[4] d Inglot/Huey 6'7, 7'6, 6'3

Groenfeld/Peschke d Watson/Erakovic 6'4, 6'4

I think that only leaves Jonny Marray in the Mens Doubles (with Andre Sa).

Sallydaisy
17-01-2013, 05:47
Marray/Sa currently 4'6, 7'5 and 3-2 on serve in the 3rd set ... need to get a break right now if they can.

Sallydaisy
17-01-2013, 06:28
We finally have a British winner in the doubles.
:cheer:

Our Grand Slam Champ Jonny Marray and partner Andre Sa sneak a win against Lacko/Zelenay.
4/6, 7'5, 7'6 ... through to play Haase/Sijsling in R2.

Well team Holland look like complete amateurs next to the Bryans. Bizarre.

JAMES4578
26-01-2013, 13:29
Pretty straightforward for the Bryans who take it 6-3, 6-4 in 53 minutes to take their 6th Aussie title and 13th slam overall beating the record of beating the record of Newcombe and Roache, well done! Fair to say they weren't really challenged though, the Dutch pair haven't played much together. Got a stream of this and it was Eurosport HD though it wasn't on the main Eurosport channels on my TV, can only get Freeview HD myself.

As far as finals go this one was really rubbish. Also they seemed to be playing on speed or something - went by so fast. However, kudos to the Bryans! They did manage to make the other team look rather C-list.
