Holidays are sadly over but not to worry as the tennis season is in full swing with the Australian Open just round the corner. :skippy:
Hopefully you're all ready for an exciting year (none of that lethargy from the start of last year thank you very much ;)).

If you need a refresh of the rules or you're new to this competition, then please read the rules posted here (http://www.andymurrayfanforum.com/forums/showthread.php?1630-Bubble-Gap-Championship-2013&p=116180&viewfull=1#post116180). The aim of this competition is to guess the bubble gap after the Australian Open. The current race rankings are as follows:

http://img195.imageshack.us/img195/2807/preausopen.png
The current bubble gap is 80. That's Andy's score (250) – Kohlscreiber's score (170) = 80.

The highest possible bubble gap is 2050. This involves Andy winning the title and someone who hasn't earned any race points yet getting to R4 with nobody overtaking this person.
The smallest bubble gap is simply 0. This is where Andy falls to 8th or 9th in the rankings and is tied in points with the other.

Remember that regardless of whether you think Andy will be in the top 8 or outside it, your guess is still a positive number.

So in summary, your guess is between 0 and 2050. If you don't want to do any maths then just guess a random number and see how things turn out!
Remember that you can't guess the same number as someone else and once you've posted your guess you can't change it.

Ranking points on offer for the Australian Open are:

R1: 10
R2: 45
R3: 90
R4: 180
QF: 360
SF: 720
F: 1200
W: 2000

Good luck to all who take part and may the best driver win! :trophy:

Deadline: Monday 14th January, 12.00am

Updated the 1st post with resuts for today.
The chart doesn't show it but after the Sydney final the bubble gap will be 80 regardless of who wins and what happens elsewhere.

Doesn't look like there's going to be much action early on in this race! Everybody's going for the full fuel tank...

(As always, leaderboard and race rankings as the tournament progresses will be updated in the 2nd post of this thread).

13 people arrive in Melbourne for the start of the new bubble gap season. The others appear to be still on holiday celebrating an eventful 2012.

No matter, onto qualifying which is done as quickly as possible as the weather isn't going to get cooler anytime soon. http://www.4smileys.com/smileys/seasons-smileys/hot_smiley.gif
Linda, who came 3rd overall last year, starts the year strongly and comes out on top followed by jaysee.
Not far behind is cazza99 followed by Genbrit.
The 3rd row is filled by Golden Lady and Sallydaisy.
2012 runner up hfwardhouse and champion DaveArneRiise are in the 4th row with Ace! and JAMES4578 rounding off the top 10.

Most people seem to have opted for full fuel tanks for this race. Not sure how good an idea that is with temperatures continuing to rise...

After a fairly lengthy wait due to safety checks, lack of ice for the ice towels and a nasty case of large bugs on the track requiring liberal use of bug spray, the drivers are finally off.

A few laps pass without any changes in positions. Still wondering if it's a good idea that everyone went with full tanks, and none of the drivers took drinks with them...

Manaus

Many more laps pass and all the drivers are sweating profusely. Is anyone going to pit in to cool down? Or has this become a last man standing contest?
Regardless I think we need some stretchers on standby to carry off those who don't make it to the end. :stretcher:
Who will be the first to crack?

Manaus
26-01-2013, 20:22
Everyone is sweating buckets and still refusing to go to the pits - looks like they're all driving until they finish or until they collapse. An increasing no. of stewards are put on stretcher duty in anticipation of a disaster looming.
Not many laps of the race to go but the drivers up front are looking very light headed...

Manaus
27-01-2013, 22:19
Some stretcher duty is required but not for the front drivers but the back. A number of them crash into the bumpers but thankfully no pile up occurs.
The top 3 in Linda, jaysee and cazza99 manage to stay conscious enough to finish the race but head straight for the nearest bar rather than stay for the podium celebration so that they can down a couple of cold ones. I wouldn't mind getting away from the heat and having one myself.

Congratulations to Linda, jaysee and cazza99. :cheer: Not a very exciting race due to our high expectations of Andy but there's a lot to look forward to I'm sure. See you soon for the start of the Masters series. :)
