Sampras is playing an exho in Toronto at the Air Canada Centre in November with Milos. Tix are quite expensive so I'll be watching on telly. Was never a big Sampras fan to begin with.
Just read that Safin is standing for election to the Russian parliament!

I certainly didn't expect that!
Here are the current rankings on the Champions Tour:
1. Carlos Moya 1500
2. M. Philippoussis 1280
3. Thomas Enqvist 530
4. Y. El Aynaoui 450
5. Mats Wilander 350
6. Thomas Muster 340
7. Tim Henman 300
7. Richard Krajicek 300
7. Aaron Krickstein 300
10. Pete Sampras 280
I always thought you weren't allowed to play on the main tour and the seniors tour at the same time, so I don't know how Muster has been allowed to

Andre Agassi raised a record $26 million at his annual benefit last week for his school. (http://www.armeniadiaspora.com/news/6652-kirk-kerkorian-donates-18m-to-agassi-fund.html) $18 million of that total was donated by billionaire businessman Kirk Kerkorian. He is Armenian and Agassi's Armenian dad used to work at one of his hotels in Las Vegas when Agassi was a boy. I recognised the name coz he was a close friend of actor, Cary Grant. Anyway, what a generous gift!!!

Fab Tim Henman is on Champions Tour BUT isn't he not allowed be on it? Cos website says you have to be:
To be eligible to compete on the ATP Champions Tour, players must have been either a World No. 1 singles player during their competitive playing careers, a Grand Slam singles finalist or a singles player in a victorious Davis Cup team.
I'm not complaining lol! I am glad he is on Tour but just wondering why he is allowed that all.

That was Rusedski, who was once allegedly Canadian.
Maybe they felt sorry for him for never reaching the Wimbly final.

You're right. Anyone got any idea why they've let him in? Were they desperate? Is it cos he's British?
He's not listed on the list of players on teh champions tour website with reasons why they qualify either..

I just wondered. Tim is very good player, just not quite good enough to win Slam. Good enough to reach semis.

Speedy and Helen, I read through the Champions Tour website and found this ...
To be eligible to compete on the ATP Champions Tour, players must have been either a World No. 1 during their competitive playing careers, a Grand Slam singles finalist, or a singles player in a victorious Davis Cup team; and they should have retired from the ATP circuit. Each event can also invite two players of its choice to take wild cards.
So, that might explain why Tim and Jezza Bates are in the field for the London event (and one or two others in Europe). Although Bates was a doubles Grand Slam Finalist (with Peter Lundgren) at the Oz Open yonks ago.
Santoro was in the Davis Cup Team which won the event in 2001 against Australia.
Woo hoo Tim won! Had to go out towards the end of the 2nd set, just back to find Tim won. Brilliant!:yahoo::yahoo:

of course large scale protests today about the "fairness" of the Russian elections, Putin has a few more critics now!
Not sure if this has already been reported here or not? Alex Corretja appointed Spain Davis Cup captain (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tennis/16341889.stm)
(report includes a rather nice pic of Alex and Andy together)
ETA - oops, my bad, just looked back and seen that it was indeed posted by Cazza a few days ago on the News & Info Thread.

A bit of banter on twitter as McEnroe is playing Brad Gilbert.
darren_cahill Darren Cahill
Good start for @bgtennisnation. He leads McEnroe 2/1 on serve. He's wearing all black! Surprised?
darren_cahill Darren Cahill
McEnroe snapping at the umpires. Now BG getting into it. A little heated here. Boys are creampuffing the ball. Mc up 3/2 with a break

@darren_cahill @bgtennisnation While the man in black's back is turned, is that a Johnny Mac rant happening behind him??
darren_cahill Darren Cahill
McEnroe up 5/3. Set has been going an hour already. Got the stretcher ready for @bgtennisnation
darren_cahill Darren Cahill
7/4 McEnroe and serving for the match. It's an 8 game pro set. BG now looking quite disheveled, but a fine 1st up performance!
darren_cahill Darren Cahill
There it is! McEnroe wins it 8/4. BG's lack of match play a telling factor in the end.

Willander Recovering In Hospital (http://www.10sballs.com/2012/01/17/tennis-great-mats-wilander-recovering-in-a-melbourne-hospital/)
He lacerated a kidney after a "fall" at home?!
Has he been taking PR tips from Francseco Schettino?
Mats is back on Eurosport - still looks a bit pale though.
Sounds like he was lucky by all accounts

Martina Navratilova is one of the stars on Dancing with the Stars this season starting in March. I will defo be rooting for her. Monica Seles was awful and went out first a few seasons ago so I hope Martina does a lot better.
Martina Hingis went out first round on 'Strictly' here.

Champions of Tennis (http://www.championsoftennis.com) is coming to Edinburgh in the summer - part of the ATP Champions Tour. Its 20-23 June, so far the only player announced is John McEnroe. Tickets are on sale now for those who pre-registered, but I think the general sale will start at the end of next week. Is anyone else planning to go?

I'll be going on Sat. 22nd June. I pre-registered & have booked my tickets. I'll be going with my sister Isla. It's only 3 miles from where I live.!!

Excellent. I am going on Sat 22nd as well, with 3 friends. Looking forward to it - hope they manage to persuade some of my other favourite "oldies" to play in this one!
