As I have said many times in the past, the one who serves best on the day has a big effect on the result of matches between these two and I hope Andy takes his general serving level during the tournament into the match and if anything serves even better. I presume the English commies have picked up on it but my Portuguese commies quickly picked up that Andy has had the strategy of serving at three quarter pace for the first couple of points on most of his service games to get those first serves in, and it will be interesting if he keeps that up against Roger.
I also said during the match last night that I have realised that we should not worry if Andy does not always maintain a high level during a match against somebody like Chardy because he needs somebody from the top 4 to make him play at that level. He was timing the ball better last night and I do not think we have to worry too much if we have not seen top four tennis until he plays a top four match!
I do think Andy has had a new approach to a grand slam this time round. I hope we will see a more confident Andy dictating things during the semi final - he has beaten Federer in an important best of five sets final, does not have the "best modern player not to have won a slam" albatross round his next, and he may just go out and blow Roger off court. Or Roger may play lights out tennis and then both of them give us a classic.
What I hope and believe is that he has now been with Ivan long enough to have learnt to go out there and play his best tennis to beat the other person in the most economical manner possible and to give it his all and play his best tennis.
It might take Andy a few games to adjust to the court at night but I suspect Andy will be able to play at that level. And then either Andy will win or tennis fans the world over will be treated to an epic match where the supposed GOAT has to play like the GOAT and then the real winner will be tennis.
I am genuinely excited to see how Andy plays his first top four match with the mentality he has brought to Melbourne this year.

Oh Sally how you make me laugh or is it my wine ? Is Chris the one who always talk about how much money the top players make, he is so envious of their prize money but never talk about the hard work they put in to get it or their expenses, travel, top coaches etc ect. I always mute when he starts. The only one I like is Joe Durie, the best. I can't but feel a bit apprehensive about this one as Andy has allowed Fed beat him in Slams but I'm quietely confident he can do it if he takes on court what Lendl has taught him how to win.

It's strange, but once upon a time Federer was the very efficient player and Andy was the one inclined to 'go walkabout'. Andy has improved in that respect and only has minor blips now, but Roger these days goes through periods in matches where he totally loses his focus and keeps shanking his shots. I guess in both cases it's all down to getting older. If Roger has one of his better days this could be a really close and exciting match, but if Roger has one of his off days then it should be plain sailing for Andy. Whilst I'd love to see an exciting match, in this case as it's only the semi I'd rather it was quick & easy for Andy.
