Rafa out of the doubles in Sao Paulo.
Beyond The Baseline @SI_BTBaseline (https://twitter.com/SI_BTBaseline) Rafael Nadal withdraws from doubles with Nalbandian in Sao Paulo to focus on singles.
Apparently players have been complaining about the balls and the condition of the courts in Sao Paolo.

Watching Gulbis v Del Potro. No breaks of serve in the first set so a tie-break.
It'll be interesting to see if Ernie can come up with some decent tennis.
*0-1 Ernie fail
1-1* Fran fail
1-2* Fran serves a DF!
*2-2 Ernie wide shot
*2-3 and back on serve. Enjoying listening to Peter Fleming ...
2-4*
3-4* back on serve
*4-4
*5-4 fabulous rally especially from Gulbis who won the point with a sublime lob!
5-5*
5-6* set point Fran after a thumping Ace!
*5-7 overhit from Ernie and Del Potro takes the first set 7'6(5)

Stayed up till midnight to watch Milos vs Russell and fell asleep. The livestream was really awful and longview camera angle too far away. Luckily it was a short match.
Rafa did not look great at all and i won't be surprised if he's knocked out before the final. App. the balls are a bit dodgy. But he looks slow and flat.

Beaten by Dimitrov in 3 sets 6'7(4), 7'6(0), 6'3.
Wonder if he's OK? He really fell away in the 3rd set going 0-3 down after the tie-break to love.
Del Potro v Nieminen up on livescore, I'm away for a swim!
Rafa did not look great at all
I was out (another quiz nite - my team won again :)) and just caught the last few games, so I can't comment on how Rafa looked for most of the match, but he looked great when he broke in the penultimate game! He played some amazing shots in that game!

This stat is also quite interesting ...
Ben Rothenberg @BenRothenberg (https://twitter.com/BenRothenberg) Might not seem like a big loss for Federer on its face, but he'll drop 320 pts in the rankings.

Stu Fraser already made this point on twitter ...
There are 4 x 30yr+ Finalists in action today on the ATP and WTA tour competing for a win! Tommy Haas #22(34), Julien Benneteau #39(31), David Nalbandian #93(31) and Serena Williams #1(31) who has just taken the record as the oldest WTA player to hold the #1 spot (replacing Chrissie Evert).
(Of all those my wish would be for Benny to finally nail a title today - at the 8th attempt).
A few years ago the talk was all about the 'young guns' (e.g. Rafa, Nole, Andy - and haven't they done well) but it seems that more and more players are finding they can compete very well even if some of their opponents are 10 years younger!!! I'd like to make honourable mention of Llodra #51(32), Malisse #53(32), Nieminen #56(31), Hewitt #112(31), Davydenko #37(31), and Blake #108(33) who are still working their way round the ATP events.
Awww Benny has played 7 finals and lost them all  Hope he wins this one :)

Anyway, roving reporter over in Rotterdam ...
Benneteau took an early for 2-0, was pegged back when DelPotro won the next 3 games to lead 3-2.
Del Potro had two set points on Benny's serve at 5-3 but the Frenchman held on.
Fran then served for the set, but Benny broke back for 5-5
Now they're into a tie-break for the first set.
Va Bene!!!
DelPotro stormed ahead to lead 5-1 and on his own serve.
Ace for 6-1. Benny has 2 to stay in the set.
*2-6
Del Potro wins the first set 7'6(2) - but he'll know how hard Benneteau has fought all week.

Blimey Sally, you edited your post to include Potty taking the first set when there were still 2 points to go on TennisTV!
It wasn't a back edit ... I typed the result as I saw it on LS. I've found that if you click to expand and view the match stats it often gives the most updated score.
Yes - and I've also found that if you leave ls on the stats screen, the scores get stuck, so you have to go back to the main screen to update it.

Benny has troubled Fed on more than 1 occasion in the past tho, I seem to remember he beat him in the Paris masters a few years back & of course there was the 5 set match at Wimbly last summer. I wonder how that will affect Fed going in to the American masters.
