At the request of forum member TheMass here's a thread to discuss going to watch
the next Grand Slam of 2013 at Roland Garros, Paris.

Andy seems intent on improving his performance on clay this year!

Oh, they go on sale in the morning, don't they! I can't really take more time off work so soon after Monte Carlo - I wonder whether I should just try to get a ticket for the final? Maybe not, I might end up watching Fed v Nole

I wanted to go and Mr P looked into it as part of my ongoing 60th b'day celebration but somewhere along the line he started repeatedly saying "shall we go to Portugal in June?" till I gave up hope and said ok..........

Got my tickets for the semi-finals this morning. Way up at the back but I will be there! Plenty of tickets available for most other days, especially the Ladies Final! Now to get the Eurostar tickets. Hoping to see Andy and Rafa!

Any chance you could persuade him to spend the May Bank holiday there and 1 day of play?
RG starts on Monday 27th (bank holiday here); if you went out on Fri 24th you'd probably be able to get in to watch Qualifying on Sat 25th (final rounds) and there'd be loads of players there practcing. If you went on Mon 27th a ground pass would probably give you a good flavour of the place AND you'd see a shed load of players. The site is about the same size as Wimbledon, similar facilities.
That's not June is it ........
;)

*Sigh*.........unfortunately the money will only go so far. Plus I'm teaching till the end of May so it had to be June.

Gill and I are thinking of going next year as we both are celebrating a big birthday .... although celebrating might not quite be the right word!

I'm sure in the past, someone has mentioned a ballot but you can obviously just buy tickets online too. How does the price compare to Wimby?

The only other GS I have been to was USO - that was years ago and I could only persuade my non tennis loving hubby to go for one day. Nevertheless, I remember beaming from ear to ear walking in there and it was a great experience. So different from Wimby in that it was so easy to get in to the non ticketed show courts and outside courts. I was gobsmacked by that.

Sorry - a bit off topic there

You need to set up an account and they put the tickets online after the French have had their fill. If you go for mens' semis or mens' final you can only have 2 tickets but if you are willing to go on other days you can get 4 tickets. A lot of people go for 2 days and have 1 day on Chatrier and 1 day on Lenglen. I have been every year since 2007 but do not think it is anywhere as good as Wimbledon. Merchandise is very expensive, you have to queue for ages for food and toilets are hard to find with massive queues. Having said all that, it is a great experience and, at the moment if you like Rafa, a good opportunity to see him play.

I agree regarding us open, the access is brilliant. We had reserved armstrong tickets but next time would just get a ground pass as no problems getting on grandstand and armstrong with that. Is worth doing a night session on ashe though for the fantastic views!

All this clay court tennis is making me look forward to my trip to the mens' semi- finals in Paris. Would love to see Andy but will more than happy if Rafa makes it through!

Just bought ground passes and then purchased Ashe tickets for Andy's match on the second day. Didn't go to a night match though. Loved every minute of it.
