View Full Version : QUEENS 2013 - who's going

I have entered the ballot although I have been unsuccessful in the last few years. Cannot pass up an opportunity to see Andy play again!

I'd love to go to Queens (it's the only UK main event I've not been to) but think the prices are prohibitive especially compared to a Wimbledon Ground Pass on Days 1 and 2 there. Also, I try to go to a few events and at that time there's also Edgbaston and a chance to see one or two of the British girls for a lot less dosh (and I can stay locally with family).

I was thinking though of going to Queens qualies on the Saturday or Sunday this year because I understand quite a few of the top guys pitch up to practice on those days too and it's not so crowded.

themass15
14-02-2013, 14:38
I went once to the qualies but I think I was unlucky in that I did not see anyone well known. Maybe it was because the weather was rather iffy!

I may go queens qualies on saturday but will probably miss out on Andy who unless gets to the final comes down on sunday (saturday only if Andy loses FO early which I hope not). Sunday I finish work at 6 so if you do go Sally, any chance you can let me know if Andy is still there at 7ish? Gutted I have work then as often I was able to go on sundays in the past

I may get a ground pass mid-week or something, especially if doubles going on with Andy... But am not really sure tbh. As Sally said it is relativly expensive. The best deal by a mile was the Queens final on monday for £10! Bargain!

Not going this year after disappointed last year.paid lots of money to see cilic and nalbandian! And it was freezing! I see the prices are even higher this year. Still thinking about boodles instead.

Let me know if you need any information on The Boodles - I've been 9 years out of 11.

Thanks Sally, any tips/info you have would be great. I have looked at their site and it certainly looks an option. One query I have is about food (crazy I know!) are you not allowed to take anything at all in?

Linda
19-02-2013, 22:09
I've been to Boodles the last couple of years. The food there is excellent but they don't search your bag so you could certainly take food in with you. The first time I went, the guy sitting next to me shared his M&S sushi with me. Very nice! I think Boodles is great value 'cos they get top players there. I like Queens as well - but I used to go on the Wednesday each year and it nearly always rained

If you were unsuccessful in the Queen's ballot here's a note of how else you can go along
to watch matches there. It is very expensive though; more than Wimbledon.

1. Watch qualifying on Saturday and Sunday (and see a lot of RG escapees adjusting to grass)
For health and safety reasons there is a limit of 500 spectators per day within the grounds of The Queens Club
on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 June. Admission to the qualifying tournament is FREE.

2. General Sale
Ground Admission tickets, as well as any returned Centre Court and Court 1 tickets, will be sold from 10am on Wednesday 17 April via the website www.aegonchampionships.com and telephone booking line 0844 209 7356.

3. Ground Passes - queueing on the day. I'm not sure if this applies to Semi's/Final.

A small number of Centre Court returns and over half of all Ground Admissions are available to purchase on the gate each day. It is difficult to advise what time to arrive. The size of the queue depends greatly on the weather and the matches scheduled for the day.

Here's a link to the Aegon Championships tickets page on the LTA website with the info you'll need
http://www.lta.org.uk/fans-major-events/LTA-summer-grass-court-events/Aegon-Championships/Tickets/

I've only been once years ago to the final. It has got so expensive the last few years and the field is nowhere near as good as it used to be as many of the top players go to Halle now. I find it hard to believe it costs nearly as much as Wimbledon! Not worth it imo. Then again I would LOVE to see the charity match!!

Yeah i find the prices shocking. I would like to go to the charity match too but £106.00 i don't think so!!!! I saw court one on the Friday £18.00 tho really tempted to go for it. I don't mind doubles and if it rains which lets face it is very likely i may see singles too.

themass15

I would have thought your sister should be fine for that train as, in the past, it has been around 6.30 p.m. Not sure if that is the case this year, unless they plan the mens' doubles final before the singles final. I have tickets too so really excited as Andy has posted 'barring no setbacks in the next couple of days, he should be ready to play at the club of the queen'. So excited!

Yes I discovered that yesterday when I dug out my tickets! Early start for me then to get there.
Are you allowed to take alcohol in like the small plastic bottles of wine?

Linda
11-06-2013, 17:28
If the day is a complete washout, you can get a refund (but not if there is any play at all). You can't transfer your ticket to another day. I've never tried to take alcohol into Queens (I always buy a Pimm's there, and only have the one 'cos although I go by train I still have to drive home from the station). If I were going to, however, I think I might decant it into a water bottle just in case.

I think that every time I have been on a Wednesday it has rained  but there has still been some play - it's never been a complete washout.

themass15
11-06-2013, 20:47
You are not supposed to take alcohol into Queens and if they catch you they will take it but they are not that hot on searching bags so you may get away with it. Everything is fairly expensive in the grounds!
