A bit stunned Tursunov beat Ferrer 6-1 in the 3rd particularly, but am prepared to accept it was in all likelihood just a bad day for David.

I see that Ferrer's been beaten by Tursunov of all people in barcelona.

Am I a cynic or not? Is he paving the way for Nadal to get a better seeding for RG ?:red devil:

I think he's not fully recovered from the injury that kept him out of Monte Carlo - he didn't look good out there to me. He really struggled to hold serve and afterwards said he didn't feel good on the court physically or mentally. The best 6 ATP 500 and 250 results are counted in the ranking so I think he can replace the Barcelona 300 with 250 from Auckland - if that's right, then he'll only lose 50 points this week. At the moment it still looks like it'll be difficult for Rafa to be seeded 4 at RG, though if Ferrer's form doesn't improve then that would make it easier (Ferrer's defending a QF in Madrid and a SF in Rome).

Linda

Also, the conditions in Barcelona today were terrible. It was very windy and the clay dust was swirling round and getting into players' eyes. Rafa was asked in his on-court interview about David's loss, and he said that unless conditions improve there will be more upsets.

Nadal Almagro final in Barcelona. Looking forward to it. Pleased for Nico, 3rd best clay courter in the world behind Rafa + Nole IMO. Has threatened for a while to pull of a major win on clay. Think it will come tomorrow. He has reached the french quarters 3 times and each time Nadal has beaten him. Cmon Nico!

Yes I don't think Rafa's playing anywhere near his best, don't want to wish him ill, but do think he may be hurting more than we're hearing.....

I was quite worried about Rafa in Monte Carlo but in his match yesterday he looked to be much more like his old self.

Rafa won 6-4 6-3 :cheer: :cheer:

I'm a fan of Rafa, But I'm frankly getting annoyed & bored at the way all the Spanish players end up just rolling over to Rafa. I wish that good players like Almagro & Ferrer would give hime more of a fight. Rant over.:hmm:

Linda
28-04-2013, 16:29
I think Almagro did give him a good fight! Nico was playing really aggressively and won the first three games. Rafa really had to fight to get back into the first set. It was a very good match actually, they both played really well.

JAMES4578
28-04-2013, 17:10
It was certainly a competitive first set,Almagro started strongly but couldn't quite sustain it and Rafa was a class above when it mattered. However, if Nico had held that game for 4-0 think he would have put Nadal under real pressure, though in all likelihood Rafa would still have come through.

jeannie13
28-04-2013, 17:39
:I watched the match & after Almagro went 3-0 up in the 1st set I thought That he had a good chance of winning the first set -only to win one more game. I was disappointed at this. I expected Rafa to win the match of course as he is the better player. A 3 set- match would have been much more enjoyable!! So many of the Spanish players go into "rabbit in the headlights" mode when facing Rafa"":faint:

If Almagro had had the courage of his convictions and come to the net more I think this would have been a different story, notwithstanding Rafa's passing shots.

Almagro controlled the match, but ended up beating himself.

A repeat of the final is now being shown on Sky Sports 4.

I recorded the final as we were out shopping in Liverpool. When I watched it late afternoon became quite excited as Almagro took first three games with some brilliant play. Not a fan of that young man but thought I was going to watch a good match. Sadly and typically it suddenly hit Nico that he was winning, and could possibly get the first set and then, who knows!!! All change from there and it became quite routine from then on. Well done Rafa though!!!
