Not really this thread, but I'm not sure where else to put it . . .

ITV have the rights for the French Open again - http://www.rolandgarros.com/en_FR/about/tvschedule.html I think it was just on ITV4 last year - I do hope the fact they are saying 3 channels doesn't mean they will do the same annoying thing as the BBC and move matches from one channel to the other in the middle of the match! Makes recording matches a nightmare.

I think last year it was on ITV4 most of the time. Their coverage was excellent, so I am glad they are covering it again.

The RG tournament director has confirmed that they won't change the seedings from the ATP rankings: L'Equipe (http://www.lequipe.fr/Tennis/Actualites/Nadal-ne-sera-pas-surclasse/368160)

DaveArneRiise

So Nadal is likely to go into RG as the 5th seed? Which means anyone of the top 4 could meet him as early as the last 8.

Linda
04-05-2013, 11:35
True - but it may turn out as it has in Madrid: the draw has come out exactly the same as it could have done if Rafa had been seeded higher and Ferru seeded 5th.

A little off track, but have you any idea which programme/site I need for my i-Pod to watch this tournament from Turkey.
Last year I paid to watch on eurosport but they did not cover it from Turkey. I actually got my subscription money refunded.
Do you think tennistv.com would cover this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

:welcome: to the forum Meggylou.

Tennistv tends to cover all master series tennis tournaments and some of the 500s and 250s. It does not usually cover grand slams.

Not Rafa Nadal ‏@PseudoRafa 5h (http://www.andymurrayfanforum.com/PseudoRafa/status/336512486922665986) For sure Roger is nice guy. He lost so that I could be seeded 4 @rolandgarros (http://www.andymurrayfanforum.com/rolandgarros), no? Oh wait, this way we can meet only in final! #cleverboy (http://www.andymurrayfanforum.com/search?q=%23cleverboy&src=hash)

Very disappointed but obviously Wimbledon is the priority. As we don't know the exact nature of the injury, we can only hope it is not too serious.

Andy, like many players, appears to have a chronic problem necessitating careful management and avoidance of flare-ups, which this clearly is. Always a problem for him on clay unfortunately but hopefully he will be back to "normal" very soon.

I wonder how Rafa's knees will react to a change of surface?

Wise decision. And I would not be surprised if Andy has a minimal clay court season for the rest of his career. Better the problem is understood at 26 than he soldiers on and the toil on his back from clay shortens his career by a few years.
Personally I do not worry about any influence this has on his ranking. Andy has been top four for many years now with relatively few points from clay. If he cannot get to number one because of a limited clay season, so be it. I know about most players in terms of their slam record rather than their rankings. Yes it would be nice for Andy to get to number one during his career, but not worth any risks on clay.
While in an ideal world Andy would sail though his career with no problems, the top players push themselves so much these days that they are often balancing that line between supreme fitness and overdoing it. That is why Roger Federer's records of consecutive SF appearances in slams is so impressive in terms of showing how he has looked after his body.
If Andy is minimal on clay and Rafa has to limit his hard court appearances, we are going to have to treasure any matches between the two!
Sad we will not get to see him in the next couple of weeks or so but a sensible decision.

I'm with the general consensus - hugely disappointed not to see Andy at RG, but would rather he pulls out of that and gets fit for the grass, than play in Paris and risk early exit from Queens and Wimblers. Fingers crossed the gamble (and treatment) pays off.

I am so selfishly sad that Andy has withdrawn from RG but totally understand his decision and I agree with everything you say here David. I too do not worry about his ranking, it's another slam that I would wish for Andy more than anything else this year. Let's hope that he can recover himself sufficiently to be able to prepare well for Wimbledon. This might just all be worth it if he has a shot at lifting that trophy on 7th July.

Such a pity that Rafa & Nole are in the same half - if all goes according to plan the best match will be the semifinal and the final will probably not be such a good match.

Spare a thought for Laura.... ranked 35 she just missed a seeding and so gets Caro in the first round :(
Bally gets Erakovic, Heather's doubles partner, and Heather S. Voegele who is ranked in the fifties, so tough coming back but not as bad as could have been.

I think it's a good possibility that Rafa won't get to the final this year. I predict a Djoko-Fed final. Hopefully, if that does happen, Djoko will beat Federer.

JAMES4578
24-05-2013, 20:07
Pity that Nole and Rafa are in the same half as would have been the best final but thought that may happen. Djokovic hasn't been in the best form the past few events but sure he can step it up! Fed seems to have a good draw and whilst getting to the semis and beating Ferrer is not guaranteed David has never beaten Roger thus far on any surface. Whilst it's a tough draw for Laura a few other top players would be far more daunting and Wozniacki can be vulnerable.

I did see Brad Gilbert on ESPN this morning and he said he'd been in talks with Milos' team in MC to be his longterm coach so I really hope that pans out coz I love Brad, however, I like Looby Loo as well.

Seen most of Nole's match and whilst t was straight sets against Goffin didn't exactly have it all his own way having won the 1st set TB and breaking early in the 2nd he was pegged back but broke again and the n came through a tight 3rd. Diumitrov only had to play just over a set as Falla retired with an elbow injury. Of course proceedings affected by the weather!

Rafa had an even bigger early scare...
But when it is best of five it is so much harder for the lower ranked player to sustain a brilliant set, or two.... Rosol result last year at Wimbledon being the exception that proves the rule. And although Monfils is not ranked very high at the moment, was not so much of a surpise against Berdych as on his day, and especially in Paris, Gael can be a match for (nearly) anyone!

I know! I can't get over that. I suspect Andy will laugh it off but the other three???

3 of the top 4 have responded to Gulbis' comments. Andy, Roger and Nole. Or to be more accurate, have responded to his comments when asked by the media

They all actually said something along the lines of, well, maybe they can be a bit boring sometimes, difficult not to be - with 24/7 demands of sport that is pretty much an inevitable thing. And that Gulbis was welcome to his opinion. And that's it.

All pretty diplomatic, actually.

A far cry from the likes of Nastase, McEnroe, Connors - Agassi, even.

Given that the media would pounce on this sort of thing, they're probably being a bit media-savvy. But I suspect that they've put up with worse that doesn't get reported, and wisely not risen to the bait - and probably have developed quite a thick skin. You'd have to, given the demands placed on them, these days.

I would suspect that they have to filter out an awful lot of rubbish etc etc on a day-to-day basis - and this falls under that category. This - from a b-list player who they hardly play and usually beat - is more than likely to be just a blip. Move along, nothing to see here, etc.

I don't think so. He's an entitled rich kid and he feels he can say what he wants regardless of the consequences. If he can't get attention by being successful in his job then this is probably the only way he can. imho.

Milos' game is exasperating. He just can't be content to focus on his service game. His return game remains underwhelming and a source of frustration. I do hope Brad becomes his coach and knocks some sense into him. Eugenie and Danny also went out today so no Canucks left in the draw.

Just goes to show in a five setter even if you win the first two sets, if you have had a tough match in the previous round you have to stay focused early in the third set and get the job done!
Which, on the other hand, is why we have not lost heart on occasion with Andy when he has been down!

Great comeback from Stan, though I was disappointed for Richie and must be a bit demoralising for him as he tends to lose these types of matches. Still stan is having a great year, though he could have done with a bit of an easier one before taking on Rafa. I thought Nishikori might have provided a bit more resistance but certainly looks like Rafa was at a different level today. It was Nole's turn to drop a set and by all accounts he had a bit of a slow start and it was a fairly tough 4 setter with Kohlscrieber.
