Hopefully it's not a case of DéjÃ* vu for Andy, obviously he's had more grass court practice this time. Possibly would have preferred him to be in a different half to Tsonga but if Muzzah gets there sure he'll rise to the challenge.
Sallydaisy
08-06-2013, 16:20
Strange that Lopez is in qualifying.
He was out with injury for few weeks wasn't he? Perhaps that meant he didn't officially enter some tourneys and his ranking means qualifying is the only way into an ATP on grass ahead of Wimbledon.
Strange that Lopez is in qualifying.
It may be an advantage for him as he may possibly have had more grass practice than some of his oponents.

Weather was dreadful last year when Andy went out in the first round but he will be well geared up this year and raring to go. Good luck Andy can't wait to see you step on the green green grass of home all dressed in white. What joy compared to the Red Dirt where everybody looks so dirty except for Maria Sharapova.

:jitterbug:Can't wait!! So looking forward to Queen's and Wimbledon. It will indeed be lovely to see the green grass of home after the devil dirt. Go Andy!!!
Yay! At long last its time for the green grass. And finally get to see Andy play again, seems that since Australia we have had very few opportunities for that. Hope Andy is fully fit again, that's the main thing - some good matches this week, then roll on Wimblers :) good luck to all the other Brits in the draw at Queens, dare we hope for more than 1 in R2????
interesting, to me anyway, that andy and berdych are seeded to meet in the final, and they will be opponents in the Rally game after that.
hope ivan and berdy don't link up to pepper andy with body blows!
good luck to all the other Brits in the draw at Queens, dare we hope for more than 1 in R2????
I think Evo (Dan Evans) could do it ..... and indeed he is a set and a break up! Let's go Evo let's go!! Love the way he plays and he has no fear

Grass is here!! :yahoo: :yahoo:
Absolutely thrilled to have the awesome part of the season underway, very much enjoying Queens and very VERY much looking forward to Wimby of course, especially as I'm heading up there this year!
Great win for Evans! Ward looks like he'll be through too 30-15 with Ward serving at 5-3 in the second after taking the first... looks pretty good

Got home from work in time to watch a bit of Queens coverage - how lovely to see the grass again after all that mucky clay :big grin:
Great effort from Evo, well done! Not quite sure either how Ward contrived to lose - he was serving for the match in the 2nd set :( Lovely interview with Andy after Wardy's match - he looked very relaxed and sounded in good form. Everything crossed for him for Wednesday to come through unscathed.

10-06-2013, 18:34
Very comfortable win for Evo, well done! Pity Ward couldn't join him as looks like he had a great chance, but still can take the positives. Baker was up against it but glad he pushed Paire in the 1st. seen Hewitt's 3rd set and good he came through after dropping the first to Russell. Dimitrov playing now but Sela's taken the first 6-4,though the Bulgarian had break back points.
Well done Evo!

Brilliant from Evo. It was a shame that Wardy didn't manage to do it after serving for match twice. He still looks very thin to me. Really enjoyed the first day but got a little annoyed with the lack of atmosphere and vocal support for our boys. Also, yet again BBC started later than EuroSport and were even chatting while Dan was playing. Stuck with ES for Dan's match. Didn't miss Andy's interview though as watched on the Beeb after that. Just had a feeling Andy would be there.

So after 3 or 4 rain delays Querrey finally goes through in 3 sets 76 in the 3rd. Long old day and now waY behind in matches.
11am start tomorrow to try and catch up so not sure when Andy will be on.
Kyle Edmund is on court now, vamos! Also Mahut v Williams on court at the mo so we'll soon know who Andy will play tomorrow (Mahut a set up so far).
Mahut won, so I can do my FTM now. Kyle lost the first set, but it's level pegging in the 2nd.
Sue said yesterday that there will be a Documentary on BBC ?2 @ 9.30 PM on eve of Wimbledon about Andy. She has been following him for months to do it, anybody heard her ?

Yep Sunday before Wimby I think I heard 10.30pm but dont quote me on it. BBC 1 hopefully but otherwise BBC 2.
Come on Kyle! Really hope he pulls through this match and gets his first ATP win
Glad that Mahut has got through too, although that was to be expected really, should be a good test for Andy tomorrow.

Oh that's a shame
Bit of a scare for Potty at the mo, down a break in the third... Malisse-Potty: 6-7, 6-1, 3-2 with Malisse serving
Meanwhile: third set tiebreak for Becker-Tomic
I'm watching Malisse-Delpo. Very interesting. Delpo has a bp now.

And del potro has broken back 3 all
Del Po and Malisse back on serve at 3-3.
Oh ok, really hope that Potty manages to break back and win the third set! And to let you know, Becker took the third set (7-4), so there goes Tomic.
Fascinating battle in this 3rd set!
JAMES4578
11-06-2013, 19:08
Indeed good contest and Del Potro breaks back for the 2nd time, 4 all. Whilst I like Malisse, hoping Potty goes through.
Eek DelPo has 3 MPs
And he wins 7-5 in the 5th. For most of that set it looked more like Malisse would win.

Is that his best ATP result?
Hope it shows him he could compete in the top 100 and once there, all about that regular experience and seeing where he deserves to be.
PS Berdych is one game away from victory (famous last words....) so is there going to be a dedicated Andy match thread or should we post here?

He really is quite special. Especially on grass. And after that marathon!!
I really wanted him to win the RG men's dubs too. He gets to be in the big matches but always loses out. I see he got a WC into Wimbly. Of course!
Wish we could have seen Dan's match.....

Some #aegonchampionships news while we wait, Kevin Anderson has withdrawn due to a shoulder injury and will be replaced by LL Rohan Bopanna.
Awesome news to hear about Dan! Potty vs Dan should be a very interesting match, although really I expect Potty to get through that in straights... I live in hope though!
Great win from Dan!
I was at Queens yesterday and saw Kyle's match. He played very well, but lacked the weight of shot that Zemlja had (unsurprisingly, and I'm sure that will come with time). Some great rallies, and he certainly wasn't blown off the court. Saw Dani watching the match and Bouncy too! Greg was there too, I guess in his role working with some of the youngsters.

Dan does indeed get back on centre court tomorrow (weather permitting) against Potty.
Well done Dan. :bravo: Tough for him against Del Potro but who knows . . . Del Potro was lucky to beat Malisse who threw away chances of victory.

Do think it's time they had dedicated tennis channel for the grass season. Andy did very well in both matches and Dan didn't disgrace himself against the No 8 in the world. I too never liked Hewitt,he used to be extremely cocky. However I am enjoying his play these days and he does seem to have matured into a decent chap. I am glad he is doing it for the oldies. Likely retirement is not far off, similar to A-Rod. I consider them players from my era so makes me feel a bit old! Incidentally I was doing some reading yesterday and his wife would like him to retire sooner rather than later. Understandable I guess with the family but you would think she would be supportive in his last months/years.

Presumably they could start both semis at the same time, using another court, or would the ticket holders say they have paid for two matches... surely they must have a weather contingency plan?
People's Monday??
The tickets say that matches may be moved so they could indeed play them both at the same time and that would definitely be fairest on the players and the ticketholders couldn't complain. If there is no play at all today, the ticketholders get a refund.

I think that would be the right choice although people on centre would be upset not to see both. Im sure the players just want to get on and play!
Normally if a match is started on a particular court, it would continue on the same court - so it would be Andy & Tsonga on Court 1, which wouldn't make the Centre Court spectators happy! Some very difficult decisions to be made at Queens.
I think that would be the right choice although people on centre would be upset not to see both. Im sure the players just want to get on and play!
Yeah true, although I was thinking as they thought all matches today were to be on centre that there will be no people to watch on Court 1? Surely it's too late to start selling tickets or letting people into the grounds now, especially as there is no guarantee that a full match will be played. Would Cilic/Hewitt want to play today with limited crowd in the face of Murray/Tsonga getting priority?
Normally if a match is started on a particular court, it would continue on the same court - so it would be Andy & Tsonga on Court 1, which wouldn't make the Centre Court spectators happy! Some very difficult decisions to be made at Queens.
Actually that would make more sense, although centre court ticket holders would surely move to Court 1 to watch the match, but as there aren't as many seats, there will still be people left to watch the Cilic/Hewitt match on centre. Although in terms of anything being televised, that's another story, a difficult one also.
