Entry lists are now added for Estoril and Munich which start on the 29th April.
Del Potro is back in Estoril where he'll be top seed; Tipsy the only top 10 player in Munich.

FWIW The "Estoril" Open appears to have been renamed Oeiras. The website is also pushing the name "Portugal Open".
This is geographically more exact, but I tempted to ask those of you not familiar with Portuguese how you would attempt to say it! It certainly seems to be the only main ATP event that begins with three vowels.
I will have to try and find out why unless it is just local politics. Estoril, with its Casino, has had a certain "French Rivieira-like" charm (it was the honeymoon location for Margaret and Denis Thatcher, and where the current King of Spain spent a lot of time in exile - which was useful for a keen sailor. However, it has also seen better days. Oeiras is one of the more dynamic councils in Portugal.
In fact, it is so close to Lisbon (ten minutes drive from my house) that it might strategically be better to call it Lisbon and use the Madrid, Rome clay connotations if at some stage it had to protect its existence.

I'd seen that it was called the Portugal Open but tbh left it as Estoril because for me, and I suspect most other tennis afficionados, it'll remain as Estoril since that's where it's still actually played and where the history is. People would have wondered if there was a 'new' tourney if we'd called it the Portugal Open!!!
Let us know how to say Oeiras - but, erm, I'm doubting I'll need to speak about it.

Fine.
My post was not meant to be critical, but to point out the use of the word Oeiras e.g. on the ATP tournament listing as that may seem like a new tournament to the uninitiated! :)
If you say "ooh, A, rush" very quickly with the accent on "hey" you will be close enough to the pronunciation!

I didn't take it as such - I thought it was very helpful and informative!

The ATP will probably have some explaining to do to those who aren't in the know ...
;)

That's going to stick in my head now!!!

Thanks David though, I'd not a clue how it would be pronounced.

Andy.... del Potro ill... last minute wild card going in Estoril. Lots of flights to Lisbon.... can you hear me.... can you hear me....He has a filming to do on Monday with Judy for set4sport so no point you urging him to go to Lisbon. I'm sure he has other commitments while home as well as having a short time at home with family, friends and dogs.
I think Andy playing Estoril probably wouldn't be the best option as then it would mean playing 3 weeks in a row with only a week off before RG. Shame about Delpo though, I know he really enjoys playing this tourney.

I suspect there was a lot of wishful thinking on David's part since he lives in Portugal and would have been able to go along to see Andy play again.
;)
As it is there's Miss Robson in the main draw and Jo Konta trying to qualify; shame Heather is still unwell and cannot play at this event.
It's a blow to the organisers that Del Potro has pulled out - and, as Katie has posted, 3 weeks playing on the trot is probably not the best option for Andy.
Ferrer's accepted the WC into Estoril. It's probably a good idea for him to get some match practice on the clay after the early loss in Barcelona.
So he is #1 seed. draw (http://www.atpworldtour.com/posting/2013/468/mds.pdf)

Just back from dinner with a friend and after watching Johanna Konta's match.
Just had time to go for her match ( 5€ for admission to the grounds i.e. all courts apart from the main one is amazing value considering!).
Got to her court as the previous match had started the third set - Melanie Oudin blowing hot and cold. A bit like the weather (never known Estoril to be so windy as today).
Assured match would be on that court by young guy on the court entrance. At the end of the match checked with umpire (very close seating) and he said that there were no more matches that day on that court. Match had been moved. I should have known better.... frantic headless chicken dash around for five minutes to find her match with Johanna having lost the first set 6-4 and players playing the first game of the second. Johanna won 6-1. Much much tighter third set. Jo had a break at 2-1 lost it in a very, very long game including being on the end of a pretty senseless time violation (some points were taking forever by both servers when the wind blew the sand in their faces) and went down 2-4. Then she got to 5-4 serving for the match. Again there was one moment were Johanna clearly served too quickly with the sand blowing as she (and I ) could see the umpire counting the time! Broken to 5-5. Then broke 6-5 and managed to get the win 7-5.
Her opponent was Putintseva (I adapted it to put in net serve) ... . I did not recognise the name but after a few points I suddenly started to remember that there were a couple of posts about her on one of the threads here - well I am not a saint but I rarely take an instant loathing to somebody but if a cheap teenager flick is short of an actor to play an absolute brat, she could have a second career. Unbelievable! I have never seen anything like it on a tennis court! At one point Jo won a point and I clapped vigorously. She glared at me and (reasonably mild mannered though I normally am) I was happy to glare back!
And just to emphasise how close things are on a tiny clay court with about 50 people watching, and how important one or two fans can be (c'mon Brits around the world) apart from her coach, I was definitely the person to give her most support. In fact, he was on the opposite side to the chair and the players' seats and at the end Johanna shook hands with her opponent, the umpire, put her racket down and looked at me with a great smile and I was smiling back. I know this sounds a cliché, but she was so pleased to have somebody to look at to share the victory with. That was a very special moment and made my week!
Thanks David :)

Different story today. Johanna was on the second court, the charmingly named Centralito.
The match before her involved a local young player who took his match to a third set tiebreak against the odds and had probably 500 people watching - great atmosphere.
Johanna played Stephanie Foretz Garcon, or Forest Gateau to me (whom Heather beat at RG for that first main draw victory for a British woman after so long...).
She started OK and got a break early on and the match seemed very routine up to 4-3 and serving with a break. She was broken back, Forest Gateau held and Johanna asked for the trainer. She then lost her serve and the set and had a session with the trainer off court.
After losing the first three games in the second she retired hurt.
Nothing obvious but I suppose we will find out in time. Pity because Forest Gateau has good shots but does not string them together that consistently.
BTW I think the fact that Ferrer accepted a wild card to play Estoril as he felt he needed more practice before RG, and that Federer has played Estoril twice in very recent years for the same reason is interesting. I know Andy would have played for three weeks but not necessarily going deep. Madrid as we know is the most atypical clay conditions given the altitude, never mind the colour of the clay, and if Andy goes out early in Rome then he could go into RG with very little clay practice. Apparently Ferrer needs more clay practice than Andy - figure that one out! :)
Well, as someone else said, Andy is practising on clay, just not playing matches. Going to Estoril and probably getting beaten by a lower-ranked player wouldn't do a great deal for his confidence. He actually stands more chance of going deep at Madrid as it plays more like a hard court, so that would be better for his confidence.
Hope Johanna is OK.
Maybe they should stick Andy on an ice rink, get him flailing about and thus used to letting go and being not totally in control. I used to go down slides into water with my hands firmly gripping the sides and slowing my drop as much as I could because of my fear of just letting myself go. Once I learned to let go my passage was actually much smoother and I had fun!

Perhaps. I just think it might be another clay season where he comes out the end - even if he does well at RG as over five sets he stands a better chance against those lower ranked than him on any surface - in the same position as he basically went in, which is with neither that much more experience nor wins against the top players.
At least somebody explain to me why such experienced clay courters as Daveed and Roger have thought it useful to play a 250 like Estoril on the way to RG. They don't need particularly to improve their game on clay or are lacking in experience. They could just practise as well!

Aargh!!! Almost certainly cannot go, unless the first two matches are over pretty quickly as I have to be in the Uni mid-afternoon! :( (Unfortunately I am the teacher, not one of the students...)

Laura's match just started - and just as predicted exactly the wrong time for me :(
Oh well.... she got broken in her first game. C'mon Laura!
Gets on the board at 1-2 surviving 5 BPs in the game!
C'mon Laura!
Breaks back on the third BP! 2-2
Broken back 2-3. Might be one of those clay matches where it is easier to break than to hold...
Or not.... her opponent holds 2-4.
And now 2-5
Loses first set 6-2
Starts second set... already five DFs and this is her fifth service game. so basically giving away one point a game... oh well. C'mon Laura!
Two holds 1-1
Laura 2-1, now 2-2. and time to teach. How weird livescoring a match taking place down the road!
C'mon Laura!
Edit she lost 2-6 5-7 55 points to 70 with 10 DFs, an average of one per service game. In other words, she realistically starts each service game 0-15.
Hope she can break this run. And she comes back to Estoril next year!

Today I got to see Laura and Marina (Erakovic) play doubles together. They never really got going and were beaten 6-2 6-3.
Sat behind their coaches and at the end wished them well in future tournaments.
Laura only held service once out of four times and both of them missed a lot of volleys. Frankly it seemed to be one of those days where they did not turn up at the office.
Pity. Of all the tennis players I have managed to see live (not that many I admit) Laura was the closest to how she looks on the screen.

Jamie and his partner got beaten 6-4 6-4. Match stats essentially very similar but the opponents took 2/6 BPs and Jamie's pair 0/3. That seemed to be the difference.
Did not get to see it...
Haas won in Munich and Stan won in Estoril.
