MIAMI MASTERS 2013, R3: Andy grinds down Grisha 7'6 (4), 6'3

Andy's into R3 of the Miami Masters after a comfortable 6'3, 6'1 victory over B-Tomic who clearly hadn't brought his best game with him today.

Muzzah's R3 opponent is Grigor Dimitrov (Mr Shriekapova) from Bulgaria who's currently ranked #32 (CH31, Feb 2013) and is 29th seed at the Miami Masters.

Andy leads their H2H (http://www.atpworldtour.com/Players/Head-To-Head.aspx?pId=MC10&oId=D875)by 2-0 and beat the 21yr old earlier this year in the Final of the Brisbane event, thus retaining his title from 2012. Prior to that Andy had beaten Dimitrov in the QF's at Bangkok 2011.

Dimitrov has worked his way steadily up the rankings; it remains to be seen if he can conjure up some firepower to get past the World #3 on Monday. Andy is playing on 'home' concrete here in Miami and has plenty to play for with the #2 world ranking in his sights.

I love the way Peter Fleming never panders to his co-commentators :) If they say something he doesn't agree with, he just goes 'uhhhhhhh...' for what feels like minutes, then says what he thinks! Not always good for the nerves but we certainly get our money's worth and plenty of excitement with Andy! Obviously he was somewhat fortunate to take that first set but stepped it up when he had to and the 2nd was solid. A better start wouldn't go amiss tomorrow.

Well said but I am just a bit concerned that Andy has more trouble serving matches out these days than he used to - something no doubt Ivan can help with. Again, it's habit - if it happens once then you worry about next time. A few more good serve-for-the-match games should be enough to sort that out....

Tedious tennis in the first set - Andy well below par and Dimitrov giving it some wellie. Glad to see Andy up his game considerably in the second set. Just annoyed with him for making me miss a FTM PS by one game!!!:grrr:

i thought andy was not just nervous at the start but, as a certain lady might have said 'frit'. choosing to receive, and i know he always wants to start that way, but yesterday to me that was him saying 'i'm nervous but i'm guessing you're even more so'..
dimi played explosively at the start, and after being broken the first time andy reeled him in from 0-40 down in a really dour game to reclaim the break. bouncy commented that andy was playing a 'very professional game'. to me andy played not to win but simply to oppose, behind a big NO sign. payed off when dimi served for the set, poor guy, really bad habit of dfs at crucial times.
second set andy got the break and held on to it, few scintillating points, in fact stadium was so quiet that when a great shot was applauded it was a surprise to see there was a large crowd there. perhaps they were all holding their breath, as i was for much for the match.
andy made a meal of serving it out, indulged himself at 40-15 with too cheeky a dropper which got the treatment, and he even df'ed himself, but finally got it done with a couple of rare aces. guess he was relieved to get that over with.
dimi is going to be a handful, big well set up lad, awful hair but a big open face, eyes full of intent, good future in store.
