It's 7 years since Seppi has beaten Andy Murray, in the QF of the Nottingham Challenger.

Since then Andy's risen to be one of the top 3 players in the world - and he's beaten Andreas 4 times on grass, clay and hard courts. So, the British player is well up in their 1 H2H (http://Year Tournament & City Surface Round Winner & Score2010 ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Rome Italy Clay R32 Murray, Andy 6-2, 6-4 Stats2010 ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Indian Wells CA, U.S.A. Seppi has been playing well of late and after spending a long time in the lower half of the ranking 100's he's now up into the top 20 (#19, CH#18 Jan 2013) and looking a lot less flaky. His nickname is "Andy" so make sure you are clear with your FTM's!

Andy may well have his hands full (again!) but, as the stats below show, he's probably still got the edge over the Italian and far more in his game and power to carve out a win.

Their R4 match is scheduled for Wednesday 27th March, time tbc

His nickname is "Andy" so make sure you are clear with your FTM's!

If Andy Murray is Mandy
and Andy Roddick is Randy
(these names were coined a few years ago when they played each other)
Then Andy Seppi must be Sandy :)

I think today is trickier to guess just when Andy is on court as both matches before him - Daveeed v. Ken and Serena v. Na Li. -could go way over two hours or, if one player is not on their game e.g. Ken has had some injury concerns recently, Serena has been very wobbly at the start of some matches then recovered, perhaps she is now on song, etc, much less.

Hope Andy starts with a bit more "oomph" today, was so far back yesterday that Dimitrov could dominate most of the play. When he came forward Dimitrov was in trouble.

Did anyone think Andy looked slightly injured part way through the second set? I thought he had a problem with his right quad and was limping at one point. After that the steam seemed to go out of his shots and I was truly afraid for a third set.

Great to get the win - let's hope he plays like he did in the first set all the way through the Cilic match!

I saw him clutch at his side once or twice after a particularly long downward reach to hit a ball but I didn't think it was bothering him that much. He didn't mention it afterwards so if he did 'tweak' something it's probably just par for the course and sortoutable by AI ...

Have seen that 1 or 2 folk have wondered about whether Andy is carrying some sort of injury. I have to admit, I do feel like there is something not quite right at the moment. It was strange how he played so well in the first set and seemed to run out of steam at various points in the 2nd. The last couple of matches he has looked knackered at the end of the match. Hope he is ok cos it's going to get much tougher and I guess with Nole out, the pressure of being the top seed left in is there not to mention the possible rise to no 2! That said, Andy has shown a great deal of maturity and self belief this week in not panicking when his back's against the wall. Let's hope he is fully fit and rested for the next match.

pabbers
27-03-2013, 11:29
It's just he rubbed his quad at one point after a grimace, at another point he was stretching his quad out and then later he seemed to pull up on a shot and his serve deffo went off in the second set by comparison to the first IMHO, so that made me think maybe he couldn't push off on his right leg quite so well. Don't think it was fatigue. Hopefully, as Sally said, this is just a minor niggle that the physio can sort out - haven't seen AI there and I think another name was mentioned the other day. Maybe AI is having a holiday. But with my aged hearing I may have misheard and with my also aged eyesight I may no longer be able to tell AI from Adam.........;)

One of the tennistv commies this week pointed out somebody in Andy's box (I cannot remember the name I am sorry) and said that he had at times filled in for AI when he was on holiday and that he might be filling in a bit more in the future. The impression given was that AI might need more time off than previously but I cannot remember what the reason was.

I also have wondered why Andy has looked tired at times given his training regime and in past years I have even suggested he gets his breathing passages checked out for blockages (not very technical explanation I admit...) as he sometimes seems to labour in his breathing when there is no apparent reason to do so, not just after a 40-shot rally against Nole!

The TV commies are talking of a 'niggling' thigh injury. Maybe a day's rest will be all he needs

Berdych and Ferrer must fancy their chances too though. Not very often does Ferrer get into a final for a hard court event, I wish him luck against Melzer and then (hopefully) either Haas or Simon

Well done Andy. I hope there is nothing wrong. I thought too that Andy seemed rather out of sorts in that second set yesterday. Perhaps defeating Dimitrov took a lot out of him as it was a very physically demanding match.

Actually he's won nearly as many hard court tournaments as clay ones!

 Really? I thought he had only won one master 1000s on hard and a handful of 500s and a few more 250s. He has always done better on clay and won more of those events on a 250s/500s level of course (rafa usually denies him 1000s glory on clay)

He even reached the final of the TMC (precursor of FTM)! But most of his titles (on any surface) have been in 500s and 250s. He won his first Masters title recently, in Paris (hard court!).

Having a life maybe? Seriously, I have oftened wondered what these guys give up to be in Andy's team. Doubtless he pays them well but even so must be difficult for things like relationships.

The one I puzzle about is Dani. The others are practising their professions - trainer - physio - public relations - with one of the most iconic sportspersons in the world. I sometimes wonder whether Dani's mum tells him to "get a real job". On the other hand, perhaps tennis is the love of his life, and he had decided he cannot make the ATP circuit but can make it as a coach and will continue to do so after Andy retires. I know they are good friends but Dani has to earn a living for the rest of his life (unless he has a millionaire family I am unaware of!).

I thought that was exactly the situation - that Dani comes from a wealthy family? Maybe I just made that up! Sure I read it somewhere a long time ago but it might just be scurrilous gossip.

Missing the lovely AI though - hope he is ok and just having a well earned break from the tour.

But don't we see Andy I and Treacle at the DC often?

We do but in the past Andy has often been there too and latterly when he hasn't, DC is only really once or at most twice a year. At least Treacle shares his role with Jez.

Andy Ireland is actually employed by the LTA as their lead physiotherapist at the NTC in Roehampton, south west London but a big percentage of his time is 'leased' to Team Murray because he's been looking after Andy since 2007. AI also has his own private physiotherapy practice.

Whilst he normally travels with Andy to tournaments there are occasions when, for whatever reason, that doesn't happen; I guess it's something Team Murray discuss amongst themselves and since Andy knows the set up at Crandon Park so well perhaps he is happy to use the physios there?

As an employee of the LTA Andy Ireland is often at DC ties helping look after the British boys - whether Andy Murray plays or not.

Jez Green and Treacle 'job share' but Jez is usually the one taking care of Andy in the USA and in OZ and Treacle in 'Europe' but they sometimes swap about too.

Matt Little is also employed by the LTA and based at the NTC. He is almost always at Davis Cup matches in that capacity regardless of whether Andy plays DC.
