View Full Version : DAVIS CUP - AWAY TO CROATIA. Some information to consider ...

AWAY TIE INFORMATION
A couple of years ago, pre-empting the possibility thenn of an away tie, I had a long chat with 'the man from the LTA' to discuss what arrangements, if any, they made for fans travelling to Davis Cup events outside the UK.
This is moreorless what he said ...
At one time there were a couple of big groups of supporters for Tim Henman and Greg Rusedski who both regularly played for Davis Cup and there's also a very long-standing group called the BATS (British Association of Tennis Supporters) who ALWAYS travel to every tie (although not always so many away).
With the potential of a 40/50 total of cheering Brits the LTA used to organise a 'package' of flights/hotels/tickets and that always meant seats immediately behind the GBR team and usually an organised 'party' so fans could get together and sometimes meet the team as well.
Unfortunately, having gone to a lot of trouble the LTA increasingly found that people would then complain that the 'package' was too expensive. Some groups/individuals tried to sort it out for themselves and often ended up paying more and having had the hassle of arranging it all.
Bear in mind that if the LTA makes a 'block booking' for 15 or so 'team' + press + then a group of fans on top they are probably going to have more negotiating clout for discounts on hotel and travel than we as a group might get.
Also, once the venue is announced the Croatian (in this case) version of the LTA has to assist with finding accommodation (i.e. provisional hotel allocation) for the team. If they go to somewhere that is not a tourist town there's unlikely to be many places to stay so they might well only wish to deal with a booking for the GB team/press and leave fans to fend for themselves.
The LTA hasn't really needed to worry about 'fan group bookings' for away ties for a while ...
- we've had a run of 'home' ties (14/17 since 2005 when Andy began playing, the last 7 at home)
- during that time Tim/Greg have stopped playing and their respective groups no longer go to DC.
- the most recent away was Lithuania in 2010 and was a group 2 tie, no interest apparently
- Argentina in 2008 was a step too far for most ...
So, it would not be surprising if they decided NOT to include 'package/block bookings' for fan groups in their calculations going forward.
However, I think they would definitely ensure that UK fans are seated behind the GBR team because there is a Davis Cup convention that a space for away fans is reserved in that area. Everyone will have witnessed this at DC ties here in the UK where 90/95% of the away fans were close to their tennis players. It's deliberately done; as is allocating the seating area behind the home team to their families and friends rather than supporters like ourselves.

TO DATE ...
I have emailed the LTA man to register an interest for an AMFF group to travel away to Croatia.
Waiting on a reply ...
Please bear in mind:-
a) September is still mid-peak holiday season so hotels won't be cheap
b) over the last 5/6 years everything has increased in price - flights, food, hotels
c) it might only be considered by the LTA if there's a big enough group
d) a Fri-Mon tie is almostly certainly going to mean travel out Thur and back Mon (5days).
e) It will cost more than a trip to a tie in the UK - of that there is no doubt.
As already stated prices have gone up, so anyone wanting to go needs to budget between £550 and £650 for a long weekend in Croatia. The only way it could be substantially cheaper would be if individuals found B&B deals or went 'couch-surfing' and considered using cheaper travel e.g. coaches. Trains are not cheaper to get to Croatia but are probably cheaper for internal journeys.
f) As a guide, and with approx prices, (and I'm sure others paid more or less) on a trip to Braehead a couple of years ago I went up on Thursday and back Monday so 4 nights in a hotel (and the freedom to meander back south).
It cost approx £425 in total and ALL prices have gone up at least 10/15% since then.
So now I reckon that'd cost me nearer £485???
And that was in Feb/April with cheapest possible hotel prices off-peak ...
I paid £45 for tickets, £150 for 4 nights in a hotel, £180 in petrol and approx £50 for food and drink which tots up to £420.00. It might have been cheaper to fly but not with airport parking costs on top and I shared a room for 3 of the 4 nights.

CROATIA - TRAVEL, HOTELS AND 'PACKAGES'
FLIGHTS
Some of you have been looking up flight prices ... fact is that not many airlines travel direct to Croatia and if they do the flights are geared to standard 'holiday' deals so they'll either be on Saturdays or Sundays only (7-day hols) or sometimes Tue or Wed (to accommodate 10/11 day holidays).
Not necessarily convenient for anyone wanting to go Thursday to Monday.
In fact the only feasible option is probably to travel out on mid-week flights.
Airports serving flights to Croatia are few and far between so if you live close to one of 'em your costs might not be too bad but if you have to travel first to get a flight out of the UK you'd have to factor in more £'s.
JAYSEE: Ryanair's route map shows Stanstead to Pula or Rijeka; Stanstead, Liverpool or East Midlands to Zadar. However Stanstead-Zadar would have to be Wednesday to Wednesday, so a whole week of hotels, at a flight cost of £140 (+ luggage).
Easyjet Gatwick-Split £178; Gatwick-Zagreb £175 (both Thurs - Mon).
JAMES4578: Of course we don't know exactly where we're going yet but good to get at least an idea.I did see an Easyjet return from Gatwick to Zagreb for £125 but the drawback is it's a late flight back on the Monday and takes 9 hours with a stop over in Barcelona, cheapest direct was £175.
BOB IN SPAIN: Come on everyone - get your passports out !!
With regard to flights, the best I have found are Easyjet from Gatwick into Split for about 180 pounds, flying out on the Weds and back the following Monday. Of course, until we know which venue they will use, looking for flights is a rather pointless exercise.
MONARCH do direct flights Birmingham to Split, Wed-Wed incl 23kg hold luggage only would be £224 approx. You'd have to add hotel costs, transfers, etc.
http://bookflights.monarch.co.uk/Select.aspx
They have an b&b (flight/hotel) package of £455 per person sharing a twin room in Split.
TRAINS
I looked this up because I happen to love train travel. You have to allow 24hrs and an overnight sleeper to get from London to Zagreb (the hub of all train lines in Croatia) so it's a 24hr journey. You'd really need to leave on Wednesday 11th to arrive Thursday and probably not be able to leave until Monday to arrive back in the UK Tuesday 17th. The journey each way would involve a sleeper train and so it'd cost £275-£375 ... It is likely that the venue will have a train station so anyone wanting to go this route could consider it ... and with a Rail Europe country pass the internal train travel would be covered.
BOOKING HOTELS INDIVIDUALLY
- trawl holiday brochures
- try to find hotel direct telephone line
- do you speak Croatian???
TRAVEL AGENT
You might be able to find one that will set up a bespoke package?
PACKAGE HOLIDAY
Not such a daft idea given the time of year because ALL the likely hotels are going to be charging a lot per night.
I found a Wed-Wed holiday in Dubrovnik for around £560 per person sharing a twin room (half board). It would mean going by train each day to and from the venue (doable but adds cost) and you'd still have to buy tennis tickets.
But a privately booked 4 night stay + flights + tickets + meals in the DC tie city/town could well end up costing as much if not more than that.

I'm quite happy, since I have regular contact with the man from the LTA, to liaise with him for AMFF members wanting a group booking IF the LTA are going to offer it.
However ... I doubt I can go to this tie because of work commitments so if anyone wants to tackle getting the organisation (flights/hotels) done without the LTA then feel free. It's not so much that I need a break (because I enjoy doing the block bookings) but it might not be feasible for me to be as involved this time.
IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN GOING PLEASE PUT YOUR NAMES DOWN SO I CAN HAVE SOME IDEA OF NUMBERS TO GIVE THE LTA.

IF THE LTA ORGANISE IT - I'd get tickets as normal as a 'block booking'.
You'd deal direct with their agent for hotel/flight arrangements.
Volunteers to organise it independently i.e. find and book flights as a group (you'll need a good credit card!!!), find and book hotels (and pay deposit or upfront for EVERYONE) and sort out transfer from airport to hotel in Croatia. Tickets would come from the LTA via me.
If the LTA are NOT doing a 'package' for fans someone has to pick up the baton with this.
- flights
- hotels
- ticket booking (if direct by individuals to the LTA there are no discounts)

Put me down too please, thanks. Actually I've had a look at Expedia to give an idea if we were to make our own arrangements. Obviously we don't exactly where we're going but I've seen deals for flights/hotels and whilst some are more pricey a few are reasonable. For instance I've seen deals in 3 * hotels in the £400-£450 price range in Split.

I was checking Thursday-Monday and no deals came up for Birmingham, these all seemed to be Easyjet from Stanstead but it was a very early flight at 6.30 in the morning. For hotels in Zagreb it's BA from Heathrow at the few I checked was 08:50. Of course it may not be either of these places! I'd also be happy to assist with arrangements if Lankster needs help,in the event there's no LTA package.

Put me and supergramps on list please Sally.
Gill and I are still thinking about it. Ordinarily we would definately go but I have major commitments with the house renovation / extension this year  If I can't go, Gill may well be interested anyway if she is amongst friends :)
We have been to a few away ties, back in the days of Tim and Greg. The LTA packages were great and they always put on a party for the fans the night before the tie started with free t-shirts, flags, hooters etc. No, the packages weren't cheap but were worth it. It wasn't actually the LTA who provided the package, they contracted it out to a travel agent specialising in sports packages. It used to be co-op travel, the same agent who did packages to the FO and USO.
We also organised one trip ourselves as the LTA package was sold out! The LTA wouldn't even provide tickets as they were only available as part of the package so we had to get them from Luxembourg! It wasnt easy but it did end up being cheaper then the package. Things have changed a lot though and flights in particular are much more expensive. Happy memories of that trip though - It was the first time we saw Andy who was there as a non playing hitting partner.

Obviously nothing is going to happen until the venue is made known. However, the most likely scenario is that the LTA would sell tickets to a 'group' but would put interested 'fan groups' in touch with a reputable tour operator, used by them, to handle a travel/hotel package. If it's the latter option it'd make sense to put one person in touch with them to handle that aspect, since I may not be going, but I could do the usual group ticket purchase via our AMFF bank account.

That would be great Sally. Thanks. I would be keen on leaving from a NW airport....wonder if anyone else would.
JAMES4578
19-04-2013, 06:47
Seems good to me Sally. The most convenient airport will obviously depend on the venue but direct flights to Croatia seem best served by London. For instance Monarch fly from Birmingham to Split but only on Wednesday,Friday and Sunday; whilst Jet2 does fly direct from Edinburgh to Dubrovnik there are only flights on Wednesday and Sunday,RyanAir go to Zadar from both Liverpool and East Midlands but Liverpool flights are only Monday and Friday whilst the East Midlands Route is only Fridays.
When I have been to away ties with the LTA packages in the past, the flights were always from London. There wasn't an option for flights from elsewhere but no harm in asking ......
I don't think they fly every day from Birmingham either. When I looked into it briefly, it didn't look possible to fly out on Thursday and back on Monday, but I did only have a quick look ..... didn't want to get too excited as very unlikely to be able to go :crying:
If it's through the LTA I suppose it's just possible, with enough interest, that there may be a charter flight - that's what happened one year when we went to the rugby in Rome (not through the LTA, obviously ;)).

Tweet from Jonathan Overend @5livetennis
The clay of Umag looking almost certain to host Croatia v GB Davis Cup in Sep. Confirmation expected next week.
In which case check out flights to Trieste.
JAMES4578
28-04-2013, 16:54
I've been doing some research, there is a direct flight to Trieste on Thurs 12 Sept from Stansted(Ryanair) at 11.35 but seems there are no direct flights back on Monday the 16th from either Trieste or Pula(which is nearest Croatian airport). There is a flight to Stansted via Alghero from Triestie at 20.35 but you'd only have 5 minutes to catch the connection, any fast runners! For London you'd need to catch a flight from Zagreb, but only BA seem to have direct flights. You can go to Edinburgh via Brussels from Pula but it doesnt arrive arrive till 6-25 PM,whilst this would ok for those of us from Scotland guess it wouldn't suit everyone. Whilst there direct flights on Sunday/Tues wouldn't exactly be convenient for most,Sunday's early afternoon so you couldn't go to the tennis on the last day and I wouldn't want to go all that way and not to see the conclusion.
However, obviously the LTA may come up with charter flights even if it's not guaranteed. Therefore, I wouldn't fret too much at the moment if you find any of this offputting.

Davis Cup website confirms the location of the tie:
Davis Cup @DavisCup (https://twitter.com/DavisCup)
3h (https://twitter.com/DavisCup/status/328859213591871489) The Croatia v Great Britain #DavisCup (https://twitter.com/search?q=%23DavisCup&src=hash) World Group play-off will be held at
the Stadion Stella Maris in Umag. Who do you want to win?
I am fairly certain what the LTA will do is this:-
1. Sell tickets direct to fans (and if a group via me for AMFF'ers).
2. Instruct a travel agent they use regularly to put together a 'Davis Cup long weekend flight/hotel package' which will include all transfers in Croatia and allow, as a chartered package, for flights out on Thursday and back on Monday.
I think it's likely this is the only way for there will be a negotiated 'deal' on the flight side of things and it will be at a decent standard hotel. And it will be from one airport in the UK so wherever you live you'll have to make your way there just as if you were going on a normal holiday.
It's going to cost because it'll be 'bespoke' i.e. set up for the LTA to pass on as a 'package' to fans - but then one way or another this trip will cost more than 3 nights in a hotel because if you try to go via standard flight offerings you'll end up staying more nights in hotels somewhere along the line.
You have to also remember that Umag is a key holiday destination , in Croatia, and this w/end is still mid-peak season so it won't be cheap for that reason alone. AND you might not be able to just book hotels independently because the majority in Umag will have 'pre-sold' rooms to tour operators and you'll probably be told they are fully booked.
I'd strongly suggest y'all wait for the LTA to get their ducks in a row because they have done all this before many times and have the people in place to set it all up.
They are aware we have a 'group' wishing to go and if we say we want tickets and the 'package' they'll set aside appropriate space. I know that they will look after ALL fans travelling to this particular tie so don't fret if you haven't got a booking all sorted out tomorrow!!!
I've just returned from vacation of 3 months and would like to add my name to the list for the DC in Croatia.
Thanks Sally! I was wondering why my phone kept bleeping all through my Spanish class this evening - I've now turned off Twitter alerts to my phone :shamed:
I really hope the LTA do put a package together, as it doesn't seem doable for me otherwise. I'll wait and see what they do :)

Whilst keen to go regardless, fair to say that a package trip would be much more convenient. Obviously it does take a bit of planning,so not expecting details from the LTA straight away but hopefully we'll have some news in due course.

The location is confirmed as Stadion Stella Maris in Umag, Croatia. Hotels/apartments in the area are reasonably priced at the moment. Getting there does pose challenges though as, there is only a small airport nearby (I think it's non-commercial) and there isn't a main train station in the city. Ljubiljana (Slovenia) is much closer than Zagreb. For those planning to travel there, most sensible thing, at the moment, would appear to be to fly to Ljubiljana (if there are flights available) and rent a car...

Brace yourselves guys, as Sally says, the LTA packages are not cheap if they have to arrange flights which it looks like they will in this case. It's worth it for the convenience though. Also as Sally says, there will probably be other groups on the package as well and when I've been, they arrange coach transfers etc which you all share. Hope this information is useful,
I was hoping to go to the tie, but with Hubby ill now it is out of the question.
Pity you can't make it Millypops but obviously other priorities. Sally's contact is with the LTA but we knew a travel company would be arranging flights and hotels,I'll contact Traveleads and see if they have any details.

Hope you don't mind James but it would really be better to go through the LTA. They may well have asked Traveleads to put together a package for fans but if it is still in the negotiating stages and needs final sign off from the LTA they might be unwilling to discuss with complete strangers.

Hi all
Just a heads up. James has made contact with the travel company appointed by the LTA to sort out the DC trip to Croatia and it all seems to be progressing. However, you'll have to patient a while longer until it's all finalised and given the go ahead from the LTA (who will put details on their website) who will be in touch with us direct as they know we are eagerly waiting to book up!!!
They cannot give a cost at the moment because they're waiting for elements to be priced up but the likely scenario as follows:-
A four night package based upon a departure on the 12th September and returning on Monday 16th. We will be basing the package on flights to Trieste, with four nights’ accommodation at the Sol Hotel in Umag on a half board basis. The package will also include return airport transfers and a three day ticket for the Davis Cup matches.
THE GROUP MUST TRAVEL TOGETHER FROM ONE AIRPORT IN THE UK.
From the email:-
could you please indicate whether there is a preferred departure airport for this group (Manchester, Birmingham or London Heathrow)?
So, would those who expressed interest please state your preference, in order 1-3, so that we can get a consensus which everyone will then have to go with.
Thanks!

Hello all.
The LTA have put a package together for Croatia.
It's £700-£750 for 4 nights, tickets, flights and transfers to/from airport to hotel (but not travel/transfers within the UK). This is not currently shown on the LTA website but details have been sent out to those who'd requested email updates.
More information to follow ...
LadyBuzz - I'm sure the other forumites would make the 4 of you welcome on the trip!

Herewith the package information.
It'd be best to make a decision by midnight Thursday 4th July if you want to take up the package set up by Traveleads for the LTA.
The alternative they're suggesting is a 'group package' tailored to our needs which I suspect would cost a lot more ...
I've sent a reply asking what time the flights are and how they want payment made and when. On this occasion it might be that they'll accept individual payments online rather than wait for our bank account to receive cheques and then pay them with one from AMFF.
I think it's all very simple; pay up, turn up and head off to the tennis!!!
I'm not at home much for the next 24hrs but can collate information to reply to Eric. Since I'm not able to go (newish job and due to work that w/end) I can do the legwork but copy in any one of you who wants to volunteer to be 'team leader' in Croatia.
Gotta dash ... busy evening!!!
Cheers
Sally
Hi Sally
Many thanks for your email. We have indeed put together a package and this consists as follows.
· Return economy class flights from London Heathrow to Trieste via Munich with Lufthansa
· Four nights stay at the Sol Umag Hotel on a half-board basis (4 star)
· Return airport transfers with local guide to meet and assist the group upon arrival
· Three day match ticket
· Drinks reception on the Thursday evening
The cost of the package is £715.00 based upon twin shared accommodation and £765.00 per person single occupancy. Unfortunately we only have a limited amount of flights on hold for the next two days and the therefore please advise as soon as possible should you wish to book, especially for a group of this size.
Alternatively and provided that you have a group of this size, we can look to arrange a tailor made package for you should you wish to fly on the direct flights from/to London Stansted with Ryanair.
We will be happy to assist you with booking should you wish to proceed.

Hi everyone! We actually got the email from the LTA and decided to book it ourselves. We worked out that flights (stanstead to Trieste with RyanAir), 4 nights half board in the Melia Coral 5* and tickets for the tennis have cost us about £450 each so a massive saving (that is based of 4 people sharing 2 rooms). Soooo excited now! Hope to see some of you in Umag to cheer on our boys!!

I'm travelling from Glasgow but may need to stay in London the night before,I suspect it will be a morning flight as it's 2 planes to Trieste via Munich and then there's the transfer to Umag which I believe takes around 1 hour 20 mins so there's a fair bit of travelling involved, though hopefully not too long awaiting connection at airport.

Pat, Maureen and James - hope you all have a spectacular time cheering for our boys in Umag! I am insanely jealous!! Please cheer extra loud for me and Gill, and I mean extra loud cos we can make some serious racket as you know
Thanks Caro, we shall certainly make her presence felt! Pity yourself and Gill can't make it this time, hopefully another opportunity next year!
I am sorry not to be going to Croatia but my husband has had a bad year and is going into hospital in a few weeks' time for the third time this year so I would not like to make any arrangements to go away and leave him. Maybe next time.
Sorry to hear your husband has been ill Elizabeth, understandable you can't make it.However, hopefully other chances for you.

Hi all! Am new to the forum (and any forum for that matter) and am interested in going the the DC tie in Croatia. Was at all 4 in Braehead which were great. big fan of our our player but there is a special place in my heart for our Wimbie Champ!
Guess I am too late for the LTA arrangements?
Fionacarlin - I saw your earlier message and was wondering if you were still looking for someone to travel with your mum? I live in Edinburgh, 48 year old female and would be going on my own. No idea if there are any tickets left - would have to phone tomorrow. I would also be interested in going a day or two early to do a bit of the tourist thing in Croatia first but am flexible on that idea.
I am happy to travel there on my own (if Fiona's Mum not a possibility) but would prefer to meet up with some other British fans when there. Could I book the Sol Umag hotel separately? Does anyone know if the tickets have a seat allocation as it would be good to sit with the crowd to add to the chorus for our boys.
Any responses would be greatly appreciated!

Hi again. Further to my post of yesterday I looked at the possibility of travelling from Edinburgh but it all started looking a bit iffy so I gave up on that idea and spoke to Emma at Traveleeds today. There were a couple of spaces left (available till end of today) so I decided to take the plunge and have booked one of them!
Really looking forward to going and as a single traveller will hopefully be able to tag along with others who have booked via Traveleeds or who will get there independantly. Hope to hear from anyone who might take pity on me!

Hi Howdie65. I am travelling from Birmingham with my sister (both of us similar ages to you). We only arrive on the Thursday afternoon before the tennis so can't explore in advance of the Davis Cup but we are staying on after the tennis for a few days to do the 'tourist' thing. We are staying at the Melia Coral but will see you at the tennis and we can look at 'touristing' together if you stay on in Croatia. The LTA are selling the tickets for the GB fans (see earlier post from LadyBuzz on how to get them) and all of us will be sat together in one block. I hope you get your travel sorted out ok and look forward to meeting you!

Hi Hinxy. Thanks for your post. Since I am new to the forum my first few post don't show immediately as they go through the moderator so I had actually posted again but you wouldn't have been able to see it before you posted your message. Anyway as you will eventually see from my second post (not sure when that will become visible) I abandoned the idea of trying to make my own arrangements as I was struggling to get it all the elements to come together. I decided just to plump for the package through Traveleeds which also arrives on the Thursday and leaves again on the Monday so unfortunately not much time for sightseeing for me now but thank you so much for offering to do the tourist thing together, that was lovely of you. Although that's now off my agenda it would still be fab to meet you and your sister at the tennis. Does everyone from the forum congregate together (assuming you have done this sort of thing before)?

For everyone's information the man from the LTA has asked me to furnish him with a list of all those going who are forum members/AMFF contacts so that he can seat you all together. So, in answer to Howdie65, Hinxy and others you should all be in one place and part of a larger group of GB fans who have travelled over to Croatia. There will probably be a group of BATS (British Association of Tennis Supporters) and other 'regulars' who travel to watch DC tennis.
You will be looked after and whilst there are no guarantees from one tie to the next it's happened in the past that travelling fans are seated directly behind the GBR team and may well have chance to meet them. The 'Reception' is worth going to apparently - it's free for one thing!

Hi Pat, I have been to lots of home Davis Cup matches, but none abroad. Do the LTA provide any flags/clappers/horns etc like they do at home matches or do we need to take our own? I am very much looking forward to the trip and meeting up with you all and making as much noise as possible to cheer our boys on!

Aren't they about to join the EU and also the Euro? We were using local currency last year but I feel pretty sure the change was due this year.
Yup they've joined but seemingly not the currency yet:

Hi Supergran. Looking forward to meeting you all too. I'm definitely up for having some fun!
I have been to a few DC away ties in the past (sadly not able to go to this one :crying:) The reception usually has free drinks and nibbles and a speech from the DC captain. The players don't go. There are usually t-shirts, flags, hooters all for free. It's great fun and chance to meet all the other GB fans.
Gill and I met our friend Joyce at the reception at DC in Austria in 2004 and have been friends ever since. It was also the first time we saw Andy who was there as a non player / hitting partner.
If anyone who knows me (SG ;) ) could get me a t-shirt I would be very happy ..... well not as happy as if I was there but hey ho :)

Indeed the insurance doesn't add much to the cost and I think necessary for a trip abroad.

Hi Fiona,
I am travelling with my sister on the 12.05 Ryan Air flight from Birmingham, arriving at Trieste at 15.20. Is this the flight your mum will be on? It will be good to meet her and hopefully travel with her! We are also staying at the Melia Coral and will be there for a week. We leave on the 15.45 flight from Trieste on the 19th. When is your Mum leaving? It would be good to share airport transfers. What price have you been quoted for the transfer? The cheapest I have found is £75 each way in a car for 3 travellers. I am also waiting for a quote from Traveleads. Will keep you posted. Kate.

Am travelling down to London on the Tuesday to do a bit of the touristy thing there first and have just booked myself up for the Wimbie tour and museum visit on the Wednesday to get myself syched up for Umag! Never been to Wimbie before, sooo looking forward to being in the hallowed grounds although won't be the same as being there during THE match of the century but I can close my eyes and imagine.... Felt reasonably confident that Andy would be going to Croatia but still great to see he has confirmed. I had maybe better take my smelling salts to Umag as when I walked into Breahead and saw him in the flesh for the first time I was almost hyperventilating! Very silly given I'm in my late forties but I just love Andy!:faint:

Personally I think it's best to take Kunas and have mine in an large envelope along with my passport all ready for packing. The Croatian Embassy site states you should have 6 months validity on your passport, I'm also taking the EU Health Insurance Card and my Insurance Documents along with a copy of the Traveleads Booking Form.

Definately plan to be back at DC next year, and really hoping we will be in the world group! Go team GB!!!!!
Ditto! Will miss DC - & my Forum Friends. Will look out for you all on the tele. Go GB - & here's to next year...

Worrying. James just scraped through the first round in Brasov(he is seeded 7) 7-6 in the third set. He was playing Reuter who I have never heard of!
His name is news to me . . . :getcoat:

I had a thought today, I wonder how far it is from the Hotel to the tennis court, can't find anything anywhere? Also if we make our own way or will there be transport?

The stadium is apparently fairly close so would imagine we would make our own way. map (https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr=Hotel+Sol+Umag,+Umag,+Croatia&daddr=standion+stella+marris&hl=en&sll=45.444145,13.520213&sspn=0.020324,0.052314&geocode=FW1utQIdizLOACG-InaD2PooeCm3L4OR4nx7RzG-InaD2PooeA%3BFap1tQIdeVbOACFvo_vltu10zCkF6Yja4Hx7R zFvo_vltu10zA&mra=ls&t=m&z=16)
On another note has anyone on the LTA package received their flight tickets yet? I Know they were being sent out at the beginning of September but hope to have them in hand soon!

I was getting worried as I travel to London a few days beforehand so I called Traveleads today and Emma said the tickets were being posted today.

What time are people arriving at LHR my taxi is picking me up at 8am so could be there anytime between 8.45-10 depending on traffic.

Just did a virtual walk from Hotel to Stadium and it looks quite pleasant. Narrow roads without pavements most of the time past well spread out houses and through country side. Might be a bit muddy if wet!!

Flight is at 11.10 and e ticket stipulates you should check in at least 90 minutes beforehand, therefore I think best to be there for 9.30 anyway. Though I'l probably be a bit earlier than that as I'll be staying overnight nearby.
Have a great time all of you going to cheer on your team !!!!!
Have a wonderful time, all of you! Although I'll be in Madrid for the Spain/Ukraine tie, I'll be following the GB/Croatia tie on my Kindle!

Hi, I’ve just joined the forum and also off to Croatia on Thursday. I have watched plenty of tennis in the UK but this will be the first time abroad. Does anybody have any idea how many British supporters are flying out from Heathrow on the Traveleads package ?
Thanks Pat! You have a lovely time too! I'll be keeping up with the scores on my Kindle :)

Welcome to AMFF TrevD. We have no way of knowing how many are travelling on the package, will no doubt find out when we get to the airport. There are at least 8 people that we know of either they have made their own arrangements or are going with Traveleads. Look forward to meeting you on Thursday.
Have a great time everyone going to a DC tie this week. :boogie: :swingin:

Hi TrevD, When I last spoke to Emma at Traveleads, she had booked 30 on the plane from Heathrow. There are also 10 on the plane from Stansted and about 10 of us that I know about who are coming separately, and so there will be at least 50 of us in total, if not more! Looking forward to seeing you all out there.
Kate.
