View Full Version : Bubble Gap 2013 - Madrid: Deadline Sun 5th May

Whilst Bernie is (hopefully) rounding up all the drivers I'm busy getting the Madrid track ready. The blue clay is supposed to be replaced with the red but that's too much work so this is a quicker solution:

It's fine, no-one will know the difference. ;)

Rules and leader board (updated with MC results) are posted here (http://www.andymurrayfanforum.com/forums/showthread.php?1630-Bubble-Gap-Championship-2013&p=116180&viewfull=1#post116180). The aim of this competition is to guess the bubble gap after Madrid. The current race rankings are as follows:

http://img46.imageshack.us/img46/1619/racepremadrid.png
The current bubble gap is 1415. That's Andy's score(2720) – Almagro's score(1305) = 1415.

2 250 events are running this week – Portugal Open and BMW Open. Players in Portugal are in red whilst BMW players are in green. None of the players playing can affect the bubble gap.

The highest possible bubble gap is 2405. That's Andy winning the title, Almagro going out in the 1st round and no-one else overtaking him.
The smallest bubble gap is 865. This involves Andy going out in the 1st round with Almagro winning the title and Gasquet the finalist.

So in summary, your guess is between 865 and 2405. If you don't want to do any maths then just guess a random number and see how things turn out!
Remember that you can't guess the same number as someone else and once you've posted your guess you can't change it.

Ranking points on offer at Madrid are as follows:

R1: 10
R2: 45
R3: 90
QF: 180
SF: 360
F: 600
W: 1000

Good luck to all who take part and may the best driver win! :trophy:

Deadline: Sunday 5th May, around 2pm UK time*

*The Madrid masters website is as helpful as ever in not giving any tournament schedule. Last year play started at 11am over at Madrid, so 10am UK time but it was a women’s match first followed by the first men’s match. I'll update the exact deadline once I get more information.

1565 for me.

Looking at the OOP, the earliest men's match is either the 3rd match on the main court (Goffin/Verdasco) which won't start before 3.15pm local time, or 4th match on Arantxa Sanchez Vicario court and stadium 3 (Benneteau/Simon and Chardy/Zeballos respectively). When those start will depend on how the matches before play out but I'm estimating around 2pm UK time.

Bernie arrives in Madrid (late ) with 13 drivers in tow. With a busy few weeks ahead there's no time to waste so the drivers are rushed back on to the clay for qualifying.

DaveArneRiise makes a blistering run to easily take pole position. Returning driver Ace! and cazza99 come next with the former just squeaking past to take 2nd.
pabbers and JAMES4578 start on 4th and 5th.
Current leader Linda, Manaus and Elenive fill places 6th-8th with Golden Lady and Genbrit taking places 9 and 10.

The engines have all been checked and are working, let's try to have an actual race this time. I'm packed up and ready to leave early for Rome just in case though.

The first few laps of the race start without much incident until an enthusiastic pabbers leads an aggressive charge to the front, JAMES4578 following close behind. This takes the former front runners completely by surprise, and Linda moves up a place in the confusion.

In comparison to all the action at the front there's absolutely none to speak of at the back.:sleepy:If they don't wake up soon it's unlikely that they'll finish in time to make the trip to Rome.

pabbers holds onto the lead for a fair amount of time but is clearly not used to it. Perhaps a bit too confident she under steers at a turn and is forced to slow down to avoid crashing. This inadvertently causes a mini pile up at the front which Manaus - sitting in the middle of the pack - takes advantage of and zips to the front. Linda continues her smooth driving and moves up 3 places to 2nd.

Will the back runners also take advantage of the pile up or will they not care and continue their laid back pace?

It's near the end of the race but it's still extremely competitive up front. Linda continues to show why she's the current leader of the BG championship, overtaking Manaus after tailing him for several laps. JAMES4578 and pabbers follow suit in the next few corners. Further back, cazza99 manages to overtake Elenive.

Only a few laps to go, will Linda pick up another podium victory or will another driver sneak up from behind to take it?

Looks like I will be overtaken, as Stan is sure to get more points. It's Almagro that let me down - both he and Stan were supposed to leap into the Top 8 leaving Del Potro on 9 with 1515.

I probably shouldn't spoil this but those who do the maths will work it out anyway - You'll come 1st regardless of what happens the only thing Wawrinka can affect is whether you get a perfect score or not. If Wawrinka wins today you and James will tie on score and these are settled by who entered first (in this case you did).

JAMES4578 attempts to overtake Linda for the last few laps and despite a valiant effort Linda manages to stay on top and passes the finish line first for the 3rd time this year to finish off a competitive race. No time for celebrations though, you're all due in Rome in less than 24 hours. :faint:

Well done to Linda, JAMES4578 and pabbers. Linda can thank Wawrinka for missing out on a perfect score. Remember to enter the Rome BG if you haven't already done so, there's not much time left for entries.
